As I traveled along the scenic route to Maryland, Serenity laid her head up against the window, admiring the view.

I grasped her hand and pressed a kiss upon her knuckles. I could sense a whirlwind of emotions coursing through our bond: the burden of the prophecy, the lingering memory of her mother, and the anticipation of meeting her father after 21 long years.

“Hot stuff; do you want to talk about it? You've been awfully quiet this entire car ride.”

Still nothing from her; a simple nod of her head, and she was back, staring out of the window.

“Just know I am here to share any burdens with you.” I rubbed her thigh.

Just like that, the car was silent once again. I turned on jazz music and continued on our journey.

I parked on the boardwalk, waking Serenity up. “Let's go have some fun to ease your mind.”
