EVELYN

The courtyard was wrapped in silence, thick and stiff as ice. Everyone just stared at Lucien Darkhen, like some ghost had crawled out from the ground to spit curses on our doorstep.

I stayed silent long enough. Lucien’s words echoed in my head: a pact, a debt, a promise to claim the unborn child. My fists clenched at my sides, nails digging into my palms.

I had heard enough.

“Not on my watch,” I said, voice low but firm. I stepped forward so I was able to look Lucien dead in the eye.

I stood in front of Leo and Tyler before anyone could stop me. My voice rang out sharp, cutting through the stunned air like a blade.

“You are not taking anybody’s child, and certainly not marrying the off,” I said.

Lucien’s golden eyes flicked toward me, unreadable. “It is not your decision, girl.”

“The hell it isn’t,” I snapped. “You show up out of nowhere, bleeding on our floor, talking about debts and bloodlines like this is some medieval horror show. I don’t care what Tyler promised you years

EvelynThe air was cold, too cold for spring. It didn’t touch my skin so much as it sank into my bones, a chill born not from the wind, but from the silence that followed the storm. My boots thudded softly against the stone floor as Lucien’s betas led us out, their movements as mechanical as the breath I forced into my lungs.Lucien didn’t speak. He didn’t have to. His presence alone was command enough, tall, dark, and terrifying, leading us through the corridors like a shadow that couldn’t be outrun. His long coat rippled with every step, and the blood still splattered along its hem glistened under the torchlight.I walked in the middle, head down, but not out of submission. No, it was the weight of everything pressing on me like a mountain collapsing in slow motion. Every breath I took felt stolen. And then... I turned my head.Behind me, Tyler’s body lay crumpled on the marble tiles like a discarded memory. His once-raging presence was now reduced to stillness, no heaving chest, no

Evelyn’s POVLucien Darkhen stood in the courtyard like a shadow come to life, tall, sharp-edged, and cloaked in the eerie calm of a man who knew the power he wielded. His presence made the night feel colder, heavier. Around him, Tyler’s men lay still, mangled bodies, broken armor, lifeless eyes staring at the stars. It was a massacre… and he had barely lifted a hand. The courtyard felt impossibly large under the blood-red dusk, but I stood frozen by the fountain, heart hammering against my ribs. Lucien Darkhen’s tall, pale form dominated the space, nine wolves flanking him like living shadows. My eyes darted to the gate, still no sign of Christian. But none of that pierced me as deeply as the one fact I couldn’t bring myself to say aloud.Lucien was here.Christian wasn’t.My breath trembled as I looked past the blood and silence, scanning the darkness as if Christian might step out from it any second now, smirking like he always did, like he had a plan. But the seconds ticked by. An

Evelyn’s POV Leo was... Leo.Steady, calm, like the eye of the storm in this chaotic mansion where tension crackled in the air like lightning waiting to strike. While Tyler raged and Alicia seethed, and Raya slithered in silence, Leo remained constant—an unshakable presence.I found him one evening in the garden behind the mansion, the moonlight casting silver threads over his chestnut hair as he tended to a cluster of night-blooming roses. His movements were slow, precise. Peaceful.“Hey,” I said softly, arms crossed under my belly as I leaned against the doorway.Leo looked up and smiled, the kind of smile that didn’t ask anything from me. “There you are. Was starting to think you'd forgotten how to walk.”I scoffed playfully. “Hard to walk when you're carrying twins and stress the size of a mountain.”He straightened and came over, brushing the dirt off his hands. “Come sit. You shouldn’t be standing too long.”I let him lead me to the garden bench. It was quiet, save for the rust

Evelyn's POVIt's been weeks.Weeks since Christian disappeared into the night with nothing but a smirk, his parting words lingering like smoke in the cold. “Don’t miss me too much,” he had said. As if that was something I cared about. The compound had been unbearably quiet since then. The kind of silence that didn’t offer peace, only a constant reminder that something—someone—was missing. I found myself listening for the echo of his sharp footsteps, waiting for the sound of his voice cutting through the air with some snide comment or sarcastic insult. But there was nothing. Just stillness.I sat curled on the velvet chaise in the study, arms folded over my belly. The twins were quiet too, as if they could sense the tension in the air. As if they too were waiting for their supposed father to come back. From the window, I could see Tyler in the courtyard, drenched in sweat, shirtless and furious. He was fighting again—more like demolishing anyone who stepped in front of him. Betas, ome

Evelyn's POVThe tension in the room shifted the air, thick and suffocating. I was still reeling from Tyler’s sudden appearance when Christian stepped into the doorway behind him like a looming stormcloud. His presence changed everything.Christian’s eyes flicked between Tyler and me. He folded his arms, chest rising and falling in a slow, mocking rhythm. “What’s the occasion?” he asked, voice silky with sarcasm.Tyler swallowed, then squared his shoulders. “We need to talk about protecting the babies,” he said, keeping his tone calm but strained. “The only way to keep them safe is for Evelyn to disappear. Go somewhere no one can find you until we figure out a solution.”Christian almost chuckled but he held himself.Tyler turned to face him, his jaw already clenched. “This isn’t a joke, Christian.”“Oh, I’m not laughing,” Christian replied, smirking. “You seriously think we can just shove her into some cave and pretend this problem doesn’t exist?”Tyler’s hands balled into fists. “Yo

Evelyn’s POVThe evening sun dipped low behind the trees outside the window, casting long golden streaks across the floor. I slumped down onto the couch in my room, completely drained. My head throbbed with every thought and my limbs ached from tension. These past few weeks had been nothing short of chaos—and now, with the Darkhens involved, chaos felt like an understatement.Leo sat quietly near the window, his elbows resting on his knees, watching me with those calm, thoughtful eyes of his. The same eyes that had always managed to soothe me in the past.“I read something today,” I began, my voice hoarse as I laid a hand over my stomach. “In the Bluestone library… about the Darkhens.”Leo looked up instantly. “What did you find?”I turned my head slightly to face him. “They’re more ruthless than I thought.” I swallowed the lump in my throat. “In the 19th century, a coven of witches made a deal with Alpha Draco Darkhen. They fulfilled their end of the bargain, but they delivered a l

EvelynTyler turned to the room, his arms crossed. “The Darkhens aren’t just some distant northern pack. They’re bound by blood and bone. That oath—no matter how old—is sacred to them. Lucien will come back. And this time, he won’t come alone.”He looked directly at Christian. “There will be a war. And it’ll be because of us.”Christian smirked, shrugging off the warning like it was a minor inconvenience. "Let them come,” he said, his voice dark and sure. “I’ll be sure to rip their heads off one by one if that’s what it takes to protect my kids.”My kids. His words hit me like a punch. Even now, he still believed—still hoped. I wasn’t sure what terrified me more. The Darkhens’ vengeance or Christian’s ruthless devotion.Without another word, Christian turned and walked out, his boots thudding against the floor.Tyler watched him leave, then let out a sharp exhale before following. I could hear the low rumble of their voices echo down the hall as they disappeared into the corridor.T

EvelynThe old Bluestone library hadn’t changed much in all these years. It still smelled like old ink and ancient parchment, its towering shelves weighed down by forgotten history and stories long buried. Dust particles danced in the narrow beams of sunlight streaming in from the high stained-glass windows. It was eerily quiet, save for the occasional creak of wooden floors beneath my feet.I tucked a few strands of hair behind my ear and ran my fingers along the spines of the leather-bound books. I wasn’t here for leisure reading. I was here to understand the Darkhens.I found the archives locked behind a thick iron gate. With a little effort, and one of the universal keys Christian had handed out for emergencies, I got in. It wasn’t long before I found the records labeled Darkhen Pack: History, Culture, Oaths.I pulled a worn-out journal with a cracked spine and opened it carefully. The more I read, the colder I felt. The Darkhens weren’t just serious about their oaths—they were

EVELYNThe courtyard was deathly silent when Christian finally straightened, chest heaving, molten fury simmering behind his red eyes. For a heartbeat, he remained in that half‑shifted state—muscles still swollen, hair matted to his skin. Then, as if waking from a fevered dream, his form snapped back. His fur receded, claws and fangs withdrew, and the beast within him shrank until, standing before us, was Christian Blackwood once more, every inch the alpha, every inch terrifying.Lucien lay on the broken stone at Christian’s feet, clutching his scalp where Christian’s fingers dug in. Blood matted his hair, he winced, but dared not cry out. I felt Leo’s hand tighten on my arm, steadying us both. Tyler’s jaw clenched, lips peeling back in a silent snarl. Then, in one swift motion, Christian reached down and grabbed Lucien by the hair.I gasped.Lucien winced sharply, baring his teeth in a snarl, but even he couldn’t mask the pain flashing across his eyes. Christian, still half-covere
