Caden's POV

“Say that one more time. I didn't quite hear you the first time.” I said, uncrossing my arms.

Casa shook her head as if disappointed. “This isn't a joke, Caden. You will be getting married if your life is threatened again.”

“Like fuck I will!” I scoffed. “You expect me to arrive when my life is in danger? What is marriage now? Some sort of life insurance?”

Gabriel made an attempt to speak but I cut him off.

“Not another word from you. The last thing I want to hear is your shitty American accent.” I spun around and picked at the hairs at the back of my neck with my good hand.

“Caden, this is what your grandfather wanted.” Jonathan began softly.

“What about what I want?” I tilted my head to meet his gaze. “Did any of you stop to ask me that?”

“It's not in our power to do that, Caden,” Jonathan sighed. “Your grandfather clearly stated in the second clause that if a threat to your life is deemed persistent beyond 30 days, then you'll have to get married to someone vetted and approved by the board.”

“Why?” I asked, still picking at the hairs till they stung like a bitch.

“Your grandpa was obsessed with legacy and stability. And a single, reckless CEO with a death wish isn’t exactly stable in the eyes of investors.” Gabriel added.

“Investors are what you're worried about when my life is in danger? I should fire you!” I hissed. “And marriage? Who, pray tell, is the saviour I'll be getting married to.”

The trio exchanged quiet looks, giving me the answer I needed to know.

I slapped my forehead.“Jesus Christ.”

“Having a bodyguard follow you everywhere 24/7 will only spark suspicion among the people so to avoid that, your grandfather decided we have a bodyguard pose as your partner, thereby reducing the risk of your life falling in danger.” Casa explained like this was one of those shitty lectures she attends in Cambridge.

I sum everything they've told me and sighed. “So you’re telling me if I don’t marry my bodyguard, I lose my entire company?”

The trio exchanged a resigned look before looking at me.

“Yes.” They chorused.

That word did enough damage.

I stuffed both my hands in my pockets and turned to the door.

“Caden, where are you going?” Gabriel called behind me.

I clutched the doorknob and twisted it open. “To my room to get some sleep. You know, to sleep on the bomb you three just dropped on my lap.”

“You know this marriage will still hold without your consent.” Casa added.

“Like hell it would.” I walked out of the room, not forgetting to slam the door on my way out. lol

I didn't even bother to return to the kitchen. Those three had successfully ruined my appetite like they do every time.

“Dinner is ready, sir.” Joakim said the moment I stepped into the living room.

I dismissed him with a light wave. “I'm not hungry. Thank you.”

“You sure?” He arched his brow.

“Are you deaf?! I said I'm not hungry!” I snapped.

Shit.

I palmed my forehead and sighed. “Look, I lost my cool and I'm sorry but please, I'm not hungry. You can share dinner with the rest of the team. Goodnight.”

With that, I paddled to the direction of my room. A good night's sleep would fix this nightmare. I'm too young to be depressed.

“Depressed huh? That's a common word teenagers use nowadays.” Those words flashed through my head and I stopped dead in my tracks.

It was HIM. Again. Why does he keep running through my mind after all these years? What gave him the right to just punish me with the memory of his eyes and his scent?

Fuck. I think I'm obsessed.

Another sigh escaped me and I took a step forward but I bumped into a wall. Since when were walls built with chiseled muscles and 6 packs?

“If you want to feel my abs, you could just ask nicely.” A familiar gravy voice caressed my skin.

I looked up and met full pink lips, pointed nose till they locked on dark-gray eyes.

Asher was sporting a black T-shirt that clung to his upper body like a second skin. The man was ripped in all the good places. He was the kind of man God had spent time creating. Too bad, the man in question was an infuriating asshole.

“I'd rather bleach my eyes than touch you.” I pulled away from him.

“You sure? Because you looked like you wanted to.” He flashed me a grin and I died. I cannot be attracted to this man. It's Mission : Impossible.

“Go fuck yourself, Asher.” I tried to sidestep him but he grabbed my elbow. “Let go.”

“One of these days, I'll teach that foul mouth of yours a lesson.” He growled.

Okay. What did I find that hot? And why in Queen Elizabeth's name was I looking forward to the lesson he'll teach me. My mouth, I mean.

Get your head back in the game, Caden.

I shoved his arm away but he was quick to grab me. This time he pulled me closer to himself. No distance, no space. Just the two of us, chest pressed against each other, breaths nearly one.

“Don't make my job difficult for me, little prince.” Asher hissed.

“If you don't want me to make your life a living hell, I suggest you get out of my fucking way.” I bit out.

“Watch what you say to me.” Asher's grip on my elbow tightened.

I don't wince. I won't give him the liberty of seeing me fumble. So, I lift my chin and smile. “Get the fuck out of my way, please.”

He murmured a rain of unintelligent curses before he dragged me away.

“Where the hell are we going?” I asked, trying my best to keep up with his large footsteps.

“Dinner.” He growled again.

Asher's PovMonths had passed since the chaos, the gun fire, the betrayal and the night I almost lost him. The city had moved on but Caden and I hadn't. You don't just don't move on from something like that. You heal in fragments and sometimes, painfully but the one thing that made it easier was knowing we were doing it together. Caden went back to work at Booker Legacy Group, reclaiming his seat as CEO like he'd never left. He still worked ridiculous hours, tapping away in his laptop long after midnight. Most nights, I'd lean in the doorway with a cup of coffee in my hand, watching him. The city lights reflected on his glasses and softened his face. There was something grounding about those moments. It was peaceful.I'd left private security altogether. I told myself I was done protecting people who didn't care whether I lived or died but somehow, I still couldn't stop protecting him so when Caden offered me a position as Director of Corporate Security at BLG, I didn't think twice.

Caden's PovI'd never seen Asher this angry before. It started the night Lia tried to kill us both. He'd become this different version that harbors a special kind of hatred for her and her only. Now, she was behind bars. He was glad. But then, the police said she wouldn't speak to anyone but Asher. She wouldn't even look at the detectives when they interrogated her or even the psychologist the state hired to drill her with questions. They all got the same silence. She wanted to speak to Asher. I was fed up with the cold shoulder he was giving her.“Asher, she's asking for you.” I said, standing near the hospital window. “It’s just one conversation. Maybe she'll confess to everything she did.”He didn't even glance my way. His jaw flexed and his eyes didn't leave the screen of his laptop. It was as if he was trying to erase her name from existence.“Asher!” I crossed my arms.“She tried to kill you, Caden!” He finally answered me. “She planted that bomb. She pulled the trigger. Why t

Asher's PovThe room was too damn quiet.Caden had been home for less than an hour but it already felt like the walls were closing in. The smell of disinfectant was staring to mess with my head and the florescent lights made me want to throw something at the fucking walls.Frisbee sat across from me, hunched over his phone like a vulture in a roadkill. Giovanna leaned against the wall, her arms crossed but if I knew her, she was just one bad update away from flipping a table. Then, Frisbee's phone slipped from his hand and hit the floor with a crack loud enough to wake the dead.I arched my brow. “Are you planning on starting a demolition company?”He ignored me and grabbed his laptop. “What happened?” I asked, curiosity creeping into my tone.Frisbee's fingers flew over the keyboard. “Caden just called. The woman in the house is not Lia.”My eyes widened. “Wait. What?” “She's not Lia,” Frisbee repeated. “He says she's a fake.” Giovanna pushed off the walls. “How is that even poss

Asher's Pov“They did it. They reconciled!” Caden rushed back to our seat in the lobby, his cheeks bright pink. “I went in to check in on them and they were kissing. Damn, you're a good matchmaker, Asher.” I smiled and drew him close. “Of course. I did help a lot of folks get together back in Mexico.” Caden didn't look like he believed me. He arched his brow and stared at me like I grew a nose on my forehead. “You?”“Yes.” he said as he laughed.I watched him smile and thought to myself that I prefer this version of Asher. The carefree, kind, and funny type.He caught me staring and smiled. “What is it?”“What was that for?” I smiled. He thought hard for a second before realizing I'd been talking about what he did back there with Gastby and Gus. “Clearing the air.” he shrugged and laughed. “Well, I guess you're right. I didn't know those two had something going on,” I sighed. “Gatsby deserves to be happy and if Gus isn't the one, he shouldn't be with her. Right?”Asher didn't res

Gatsby's PovI lost my appetite and will to live in the same fucking day. The crazy thing is : it's my fault.“Are you alright, dear? You look a little pale.” Heather, the girl at the counter asked me.I blinked. “Sorry?”“I said you look a little pale.” She repeated as she handed me a bag of wheatgrass powder.“Oh.” I took the bag slowly. “I'm just tired. Nothing new.”“Well, get some sleep.” she smiled weakly. “Sure.” I nodded slowly and turned away from the store. I was not ready for another lecture about my looks or my weight. I've gotten enough sermons from my neighbours.I trudged to my apartment and stumbled inside. I managed to catch myself before I lost my balance. God, not this again. For the past 4 days, I'd been stumbling like a bloody fool. Well, that happens when you don't eat for hours on end. Ever since Gus left, my entire body shut down. I can't even eat. I can't sleep. I can barely get my body to concentrate on anything. I understood my role as the acting CEO but r

  • THE BODYGUARD WHO TAMED THE TRILLIONAIRE CEO   CHAPTER NINETY FOUR

Caden's PovGatsby's been sleeping a lot lately and I'm getting worried. At first I thought she was pregnant but she wasn't and apparently, there weren't any signs. Then, I thought she was just tired. It didn't seem that way either. I knew a physically-tired person when I saw them. They'd just be fatigued, most of whom will complain about it. Gatsby looked tired but it wasn't the physical type. She lost a lot of weight. There were bags under their eyes and she was even too exhausted to talk to anyone.Asher gave me a light nudge when she visited. “Is she okay?”“No,” I shook my head. “I asked but she wouldn't tell me.”“Should I go talk to her?” He offered.I shook my head again. “I think we should give her time.”“Time?” His eyes wandered to her. “I don't think she… Gatsby!"I turned to see her body wobble before it hit the ground.“Fuck!” I rushed to her side before Asher could hobble to where she was. “Hey,” I cupped the back of her neck and lifted her up. “Gatsby?”She didn't r
