C1: Low Growls in the Woods
Silver Pack Silver Pack was one of the rare packs that existed among others. Each Silver Pack werewolf had a fiery glint in their eyes from birth and a wolf head tattoo on their back from the moment they first shapeshifted. But Raine's case was different. There was no fiery glint in her beautiful almond-shaped brown eyes from birth, which made her different from the others. There were loud rumors that she might not have a wolf, which was abnormal. Her parents disliked her because of it. Despite being their only child, it only made them angrier. At the age of fifteen, she prayed softly to the Moon Goddess, wishing that she would receive her wolf, but fate was not hers to decide. That full moon night, she stood with other young pups who were about to transform on the sacred ground. She could see her mother's glaring eyes and her father's stern gaze from where they sat. It was as if she had been given a final chance to prove herself worthy before the pack. As the moon shone brightly, others began to transform. Raine held her chest tightly as she prayed, hoping and wishing. Beads of sweat slowly formed on her forehead as she continued praying. Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes into hours, yet nothing happened. She slowly opened her eyes, which had become glassy with tears. Her father, Alpha Elmore, looked away in disappointment while her mother, Luna Indira, clenched her fists. They both left the sacred ground. Raine bit her lip. “What's that? An Alpha's daughter?” one of the pups who had just transformed said with laughter. “You could have at least been an Omega, you know. Having a weak wolf is better than having none. So what are we going to call you?” another said mockingly. “What a waste of preparing a spot for you at the sacred ground.” Raine felt her ears ringing as their mockery grew louder. She stared at the place where her parents had been sitting. They didn't bother to take her home. She had been left behind to be mocked by the others. It became too much for her, and she ran away from the sacred ground. She sat in the woods and eventually fell asleep there. Next Day… It was nearly afternoon when she returned home. Her parents had not bothered to search for her. To them, it would have been better if she never appeared before them again. Raine lowered her face as she walked along the path to her home while people mocked her along the way. When she got home, she saw her parents sitting with an unfamiliar girl around her age. She noticed how her mother spoke to the girl fondly while her father smiled at her. Something she had never received from them. She stepped further into the sitting room, her eyes lowered as she greeted her parents. “What are you doing here?” Luna Indira asked with a frown on her beautiful face. “I'm back home. I didn't mean to stay out last night,” Raine said softly. “You did well staying away because I might have killed you last night,” Luna Indira replied, glaring at her. “Enough, Indi. Raine, this is Alice, our lost daughter, your twin sister,” Alpha Elmore said firmly as he introduced the stranger to her. “You are expected to treat her nicely and not do anything foolish,” he added sternly. Raine nodded but did not say a word as she glanced at Alice, who smiled sweetly. From that day on, her life changed from bad to worse. Alice framed her at every opportunity, and her parents punished her for it. Four Years Later… Raine, who would soon turn nineteen, was sent to pick scented flowers for her sister, whose birthday was fast approaching. Since Alice was said to be her twin sister, they shared the same birthday, but Raine's birthday was never celebrated. Her parents and the pack only recognized her sister, leaving her in the shadows. Ironically, they had maids and Omegas, but Raine was treated even worse than them, so she had to run errands as well. Leaving the Alpha's mansion, she took the path toward the woods. She always used that route because it was less crowded, allowing her to avoid the pack's mocking stares. Stopping near a bed of lilies deep in the woods, she sighed in relief as she picked the delicate flowers and placed them into her basket. Suddenly, she heard a low grunt, weak and strained. She paused and scanned her surroundings carefully. She had once been ambushed by a group of bullies from her pack, and since then she had learned to be cautious, even though she had no abilities. The weak growl sounded again. She stood up, her heart racing as she slowly followed the direction of the sound. Her mind told her to run, but she couldn't, even though she desperately wanted to turn around and flee. Unknown to her, there was a hidden hole in the ground. She stepped forward and suddenly tripped, falling into the dark pit that had been covered with grass. She heard the growl again. It was still weak but more audible. She stiffened and turned around. “Who is there?” she asked loudly as she tried to see through the darkness. Suddenly, she felt something strong and large grip her neck, choking her.C28: The VitaliRaine walked quickly through the hallway, her steps uneven. The itching had reduced, but something still felt off. Her fingers hovered near her neck, resisting the urge to touch it again.Raine turned a corner and suddenly stopped as she glared at the figure, Raphael stood in front of her.Her expression changed immediately.“What are you doing here?” she asked.Raphael stepped closer. “I have been looking for you,” he said. “Why did you leave the hall like that?” He had noticed her leaving abruptly earlier.“That is none of your concern,” Raine replied. Raphael frowned at her cold tone.“It is my concern,” he said. “You did not look well.”“I said I am fine.” Raine said, trying her best to control her emotions. She tried to walk past him, but he grabbed her arm.“Raine, listen to me”. Raine froze instantly, his touch felt odd.“Let go,” she muttered.“Not until you talk to me.” Raine turned to face him fully.“There is nothing to talk about,” she said firmly. “You ma
C27: The Ball NightMrs Ray glanced at her once she arrived and she was sure her gaze softened once she met her.“How are you feeling today?” she asked as she stood before them.“I'm better, thank you for asking Mrs Ray”.Mrs Ray nodded and focused on all of them, “I know I've given you all the necessary instructions for now, but I have another information…” she paused her eyes scanning the females.“The Lycan King is hosting a yearly ball tomorrow. All Lycans are allowed to attend with their mates and families,..... Also His Majesty made an exception for you all like he does every decade. You are also expected to attend the ball in a red dress which will be delivered to you” Mrs Ray spoke calmly. The girls nodded half excited, at least there was a gathering right, in a mundane palace with strict rules restricting them till whatever their fate would be.As the day went by, Raine received a red dress from a maid, she furrowed her brows in confusion, “Are you sure this is for me, I did
C26: The Mark That LingersThey left the tea hall shortly after.Lilith walked ahead while Raine followed beside her. Liya trailed quietly behind them, holding Raine’s things. The palace halls were long and quiet, with guards stationed at intervals. Raine’s eyes moved around as they walked, taking in the structure, marveled at the interior beauty. After a short distance, they heard footsteps approaching, Raine looked up.It was Prince Kaizen. He slowed down as he got to them, his blue eyes moving from Lilith to Raine.“Lilith,” he called.Lilith smiled slightly. “Kaizen.” His name rolled off sweetly from her tongue.Kaizen’s gaze shifted to Raine again.“Where are you both heading to?” he asked.Lilith answered calmly, “We are going to see the Royal Physician. She has a rash that needs to be checked.”Kaizen’s brows lifted slightly.“A rash?” he repeated as he searched for it with his eyes, his gaze settled on Raine’s neck.Raine felt slightly uncomfortable under his stare. He steppe
C25: Itching SpotLiya nodded forward, her head bowed deeply.Raine turned around and saw him.Her breath caught slightly. His face up close, was far more dangerously handsome than afar. For a second, she forgot herself and simply stared. Her lips parted but no words left them, Lucian stared at her sternly. Then she noticed the look on his face. It was not warm. It was distant and displeased.Raine lowered her head quickly.“Greetings to you, Grand Prince,” she said with a slight bow.Lucian’s gaze rested on her for a brief moment. His eyes narrowed slightly before he gave a low hum in response.Raine felt her heart skip, but she said nothing more. His aura was strong that Liya was trembling slightly, her head still lowered. But Raine was not afraid, she felt something else.Excitement.She did not understand it, Lucian walked past them without another word.Raine turned slightly and watched him for a moment before finally walking back to her quarters.A servant knocked at the door and
C24: First Day At The Lycan PalaceRaine slept soundly that night. The next morning, she woke up to a slight shake. She frowned and rubbed her eyes before turning to the side.It was Liya.“Why are you here?” Raine asked softly, her voice still heavy with sleep. Then she paused, the memory returned quickly. They were no longer in the Silver Pack. They were in the Lycan Kingdom and Liya had been assigned to her.Raine sighed softly and sat up. “I forgot,” she added quietly.Liya lowered her head slightly. “My lady, it is time to get ready,” she said.Raine nodded and got out of bed.She went to bathe, letting the cool water wake her fully. After she was done, she dressed in a simple but neat red dress that complemented her hair. She pinned part of her hair and let the rest flow freely behind her. When she stepped out, Liya gave a small approving nod “my lady you look beautiful” she said with a warm smile which Raine returned.“Let’s go,” Raine said. They walked out together and headed
C23: His Eyes The doors of the courtroom opened once again.A heavy presence filled the room before the figure even stepped in.He walked in with slow, steady steps, his aura overwhelming and domineering. The air itself seemed to shift around him, making it hard to breathe.Raine felt his presence immediately, her fingers twitched slightly as a strange instinct pushed her to lower her head and bare her neck in submission. She clenched her hands tightly, forcing herself to remain still, she turned slightly and noticed the girls were frightened and bowed deeply, none wanted to bare their neck or they were fighting the urge just like she was.Her eyes lifted slightly instinctively. From the side view alone, she could see his sharp, masculine features. His long hair flowed behind him, reaching his lower back. It was black, but strands of blue caught the light with each effortless stride he took.Raine swallowed hard, Then he turned after greeting the lycan king. Her breath hitched as hi
C19: The Selection IIRaine returned to her room quietly, she walked past Raphael’s room and slowly looked away, her mood heavy. As an heir to the Alpha it was mandatory to live in the alpha's mansion.Closing the door behind her, she leaned against it for a moment, her eyes fixed on nothing in par
