CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

I woke up the next day, it was snowing heavily. But I didn't mind it, I headed to the promontory, wanting to see if there was anything new.

The snow made it almost impossible to see but I managed. For a while, nothing out of the ordinary moved. I could see animals from afar looking for warm shelter, the human highway was almost empty, except for a few cars that zoomed past once in a while.

I got bored, and the cold was beginning to bite deeper. Just as I was about to head back, I noticed a distant movement headed towards Ember Moon's territory. It was too strange to be a normal animal.

I jumped straight down, landing on small rocks and sometimes slipping, falling but I didn't stop. As soon as I got on level ground, I raced towards the direction where I had seen it.

The snow crunched loudly as I ran but I didn't mind. As soon as I realized I was close, I slowed, crouched low, and positioned myself in a hunting mode. The cold made it impossible to catch a scent but eventually I did,

    I woke up with a start, it was quiet except for night insects buzzing now and then.
