The Alpha King’s Runaway Mate

.

CHAPTER 3: first meeting

.

Mattel’s POV

.

"The kingdom bears the burden of a curse from the moon goddess, destined to claim the life of its heir before his thirtieth year unless he finds intimacy with his mate. His destined partner will be the object of his affection but will reciprocate with disdain, a being of low stature whom he longs to touch. She holds the cure to his affliction, yet remains forever out of reach. Only she can offer salvation to Mattel, the cursed one."

“Stupid, stupid, stupid curse.” I muttered frustratedly to myself.

I sigh remembering the prophecy that was given to my parents the day I was born.

I’ll be 30 in a few months from now.

I’ll be dead in a few months from now.

As if it wasn’t enough that I was cursed.

I also didn’t have an heir. I can’t have an heir by any random person whether it be a royal or a peasant, it has to be with my fated mate. Only she had to bear my child because it’s only her that I have the luxury of being intimate with.

A frown appeared on my face as I stared at the burning fire at the far end of the room.

Out of annoyance, I grabbed another one of the history books and threw it into the fire as it glazed and the papers started to melt.

“Damn you!” I muttered.

It’s disappointing not having to live your life the way you want because somehow the moon goddess has a ‘destiny’ for you.

“Sire!”

I looked away from my pain and turned to see one of the main guards standing at the entrance of my study.

“What is it?” I responded not bothering to scold him for opening the door without permission.

“Another maiden has being brought for you.”

“Which one of the idiots?”

For the past fifteen years, the royal court has been paying different people to bring in females who they think might be my mate.

And I was tired of it. I stopped it already but they didn’t seem to get it, instead bringing more and more girls, each one of them terrified in my presence.

“Gary, one of the court advisors requested his services.”

I stood up immediately shifting my chair backward. “Where is that selfish—?”

“He’s gone. We paid him already.” The guard replied meekly.

I scoffed already marching towards the door, the guard turning around to lead me to the main chambers.

“That greedy idiot, send out your best men this night and find the advisor and find the idiot who brought the girl, I have warned everyone in court several times to stop bringing in innocent females, how stunning to think that they don’t fear me, I have enough things to worry about already and he thinks that I’m constantly in search of a female, I have matters to attend to.”

“But what if she’s the one?” The guard suggested listening to me ramble.

“My senses are turned off. I do not have wolf bane. My wolf doesn’t even communicate with me.” I said frowning at being reminded of this. “I wouldn’t know if she was the one or not.”

“But if you—.”

“I am not having sex with another innocent girl again.” I rebuffed him.

Although I never did get to the stage of penetration as that was the issue. I have never gotten hard and according to the stupid prophecy, only my true mate can trigger it.

“Sire, we have a little time left for you. We have to be more serious about our searches.”

“I’m not scared of death.”

“But what about the kingdom, if you die and there is no heir to take it after you, our kingdom will be overruled.”

It was true.

That was the only reason keeping me motivated to find my mate.

I considered the chances as my guard led me to the main chambers where the girl brought was.

She stepped back, eyes widening as she realized our presence.

I brushed my hand through my hair and looked at her.

She was different, for now, by now any other girl would have stepped forward confidently calling themselves my mate.

“Leave us,” I whispered huskily and the guard bowed before going down another corridor.

I walked toward the female who was now moving backward. “Don’t piss me off more than I already am.”

Immediately she stopped her movement and stilled herself.

I got closer and she immediately tensed holding her breath.

“What’s your own story?” I asked in a low tone while I moved my hand to her chin to make her look at me.

I was expecting her to scream, or fight back because of how she was moving away but she slowly looked up, surprising me.

To say she was beautiful was an understatement. She was more than beautiful. She defined the word, beauty, itself.

Never had I been entranced.

Something about her wasn’t adding up.

I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath again.

This time, I was the one to move backward as I felt my groin tightening.

Damn! Was I getting erect just by staring at her face?

I forced myself to take another step back and cleared my throat.

“You would do well to serve with the maids, Marie will train you,” I said seriously as her expression changed.

Was she expecting me to have sex with her like other girls too?

Not a few minutes ago, she was scared but now she looks shocked.

I raised my eyebrows at her facial expression.

“You aren’t deaf, right?” I asked, just to be sure.

Her eyes were instantly filled with confusion which caught me off guard.

I swallowed hard and frowned at the uneasy feeling that was creeping up my spine.

My wolf was quiet as always but I could tell he was also disturbed.

“But I’m your mate!” She whispered, shocking me.
