Thirty-Five: Proposition Me

It turned out that Mr. Miller was actually really funny. He was the typical dad joke-cracking, easy to talk to, father figure. It was something that I always wanted growing up.

Once they left, Gabriel cleared off the table and took the dishes into the kitchen to wash them. The longer he did so, the stiffer his shoulders became, and the harder he scrubbed.

I rubbed my hand up his back, wanting to help him, soothe him in any way possible. "I really liked your parents. They seemed so laid back and happy. I wasn't expecting that."

He tilted his head as if he were trying to crack his neck. "Yeah, I wasn't expecting that either."
