Emory's POV.

The door closes behind me with a soft thud. Both men turn to look at me, but only one stands to cross the room. My father - our alpha - is a tall, strong man with broad shoulders and a tight jaw. His hair has fine, silver streaks and his face carries the lines of the years he's lived. His eyes are bright, yet kind and the warm smile he wears makes me feel welcome - as usual.

"Emory, little wolf, I was just about to send out a search party."

He embraces me with great enthusiasm and holds on to me a few extra seconds. I allow myself to get lost in the moment. He finally lets go, but just enough to be able to look at me.

"Hello daddy. Sorry it took so long, but Hope kind of pulled a vanishing act there."

"So, does this mean that you saw her again?"

The question comes from Lionel, my father's beta and best friend - he used to be part of another pack, served another alpha, but circumstances changed all of that. I look over my father's shoulder at the aging wolf still sitting a

Emory's POV.The parking lot lies silent, utterly deserted. The emptiness clings to the night like a shroud, casting an eerie stillness over everything. Only the soft rustle of wind weaving through fallen leaves disturbs the quiet. But the air — it's different. It smells sharper, tastes metallic, feels heavier. Like the world is holding its breath. Something is coming. Something dark. Something that I fear we're not ready for yet.My skin tingles in the chill of the night. I find myself almost holding my breath as I wait for Hope to show up - I've finally developed the antidote she asked for. It wasn't easy - not at all. Whoever helped Malachai to concoct the poisonous blend wasn't messing around - a skilled chemist if I ever I saw one. I could almost admire his work if it weren't so vile. The poison spreads fast, attacking every living cell in the body, but the actual process of dying is slow - brutally painful. As soon as the poison enters the body, it begins to burn, eating away at

Malakar's POV."She's a real natural."Lucian's voice comes from the treeline behind me. He steps up next to me and causally folds his arms over his chest. I turn my head slightly to acknowledge his presence before returning my attention to the clearing ahead. Most of the wolves are out there today, training - preparing for the war that's coming. Some of them are in their human form, others have shifted. Bodies fly through the air and collide with the earth in a flurry of dust and soil. Fists and claws make contact with earth-shattering force - some of them are bleeding, all of them are drenched in sweat. The training is intense, more intense than anything any of us have ever experienced, but it has to be because we're getting ready for a fight far worse than any of us have ever experienced. We have to be ready. And in the middle of all the chaos - Hope and Sarah - going at it like two natural-born fighters. Both of them skilled, both of them determined. Neither one of them willing to

Hope's POV.The sun hangs low in the sky, filtering through the canopy of trees and casting golden beams across the training field — a secluded clearing on the edge of pack territory. It's quiet but tense, the kind of silence that comes before a storm.I stand in the center, sweat already clinging to my skin, my muscles taut with anticipation. Across from me, Sarah rolls her shoulders, her stance relaxed but ready. There's steel in her eyes — cold, calculated, unyielding.“Again,” She snaps, already moving before I can prepare.I barely dodge the sweep of her leg, stumbling to the side before regaining my balance. I duck low, trying to counter, but Sarah is faster. She grabs my wrist, twists, and in a heartbeat, I'm on my back, breath whooshing from my lungs.“You hesitate,” Sarah growls, towering over me. “Hunters won’t give you that luxury.”I cough and push myself up, anger flaring in my chest — not at Sarah, but at myself. “I’m trying.”“Try harder.”Sarah’s voice isn't cruel — it

Lucian's POV.I walk away from Velara at first - reeling from our conversation and yet another attempt on her part to justify her actions. I don't want to hear any of her excuses anymore. I don't want to know how she believes that she was only doing the right thing. I don't want to listen to her try and apologize only to ease her own guilty conscience. She's already done enough. Caused enough heartache and pain. I don't owe her the courtesy of my time or my patients. What she did is beyond reproach, and I don't give a damn what her reasons were. A parent should never turn their back on a child - no matter what the circumstances. If she really wanted to, she could have fought to keep me - could have tried to find a way to still be a part of my life even if she didn't want to be with my father, or be a part of his pack. But the painful truth - the truth that I have to live with every day - is that she wasn't interested. She simply saw an easy way out of a situation she never wanted to b

Velara's POV.I roam the forest alone - away from the rest of the pack, away from Vladimir. I love the man to death, but sometimes I wish he'd just yell at me, or scream, or tell me what an awful person I am and how badly I messed everything up. His sympathy and understanding can be so infuriating at times. And I just can't deal with him telling me that everything will work out anymore. Right now, I think that he's the only one who believes that.Sure, Morgana is still talking to me, but it's different between us now. She's not as open with me as she used to be. She's more guarded now, a little more distant - I can tell that she doesn't trust me anymore, that she doesn't look at me in the same way. But at least she's speaking to me. Unlike Malakar, who's just shutting me out completely. He keeps asking for space, but I'm afraid that if I give him anymore space, that's all we'll have left - a mountain of space between us and no way of finding our way back to each other again.Lately, I

Malakar's POV.I wait patiently for the packs to file into the meeting hall as my mind races wildly with the information I received regarding Malachai and the faction of hunters he recently joined. Avery, the alpha from the territory that Malachai is currently in, made them sound like some kind of cautionary tale - something elders would tell pups to scare them into behaving. According to Avery, they're vicious, violent, ruthless, and thirsty for blood - of the werewolf variety. He said that his grandfather really went through it with them, but that they've been quiet for some time now, keeping to themselves, training in their camp. Almost like they're busy preparing for something. Avery and his pack keep a close eye on them, but they're careful not to provoke them unnecessarily. Honestly, the whole thing has me scared, especially now that Malachai has joined them - he doesn't need a group of fanatics to fuel his hate into anything more than what it already is.Through the growing cro
