TRACES LEFT BEHIND

I signaled to the warriors as we moved closer to the house. From the outside, it looked abandoned, but the air around it felt heavy, wrong.

“Stay sharp,” I said quietly. “No one moves alone.”

Zack nodded beside me, his eyes already scanning the surroundings.

The moment I pushed the door open, a foul stench poured out. It was so strong it burned the back of my throat.

“Damn,” one of the warriors muttered, stepping back.

“Masks. Now,” I ordered.

Everyone moved quickly, pulling their head masks into place before stepping inside.

The house was a mess. Bundles of dried herbs hung from the ceiling and were scattered across the floor and tables. Some were crushed, others burned halfway, leaving dark stains on the wood.

Alpha Tate moved closer, studying them. “These plants,” he said, pointing, “they only grow deep in the forest. Close to the borders of Lesion Pack.”
