Azalea
My mom would give us fake names sometimes and we used cash for everything. But soon enough they would sniff us out and start asking about us around town and we'd be gone in the night again.
This was the first time though that I had gone without my mom. We had been in 8 different states over the last 5 years, but had only returned to Texas a few months ago. She said it was a big enough state that the chances of us being found was slim. He wouldn't think to look in his own backyard. I didn't want to run forever and we'd had been saving up to buy new identities.
I woke to the sun shinning brightly in my eyes and knew it was time to get going again. Once in Arrowhead, I checked into a small hotel right off the highway. We had looked it up and decided ahead of time that if we got separated we would meet up here. I grabbed some fast food for dinner and settled into the room to wait for my mom.
Sometime in the night I was awakened by the sounds of shuffling outside my room the hallway. Before I could react, a group of people - shifters by the smell of them- burst into my room and grabbed me. I tried to struggle, but the 6 of them together were too strong for me. They carried me outside and tossed me into a waiting SUV, with none other than my father sitting inside.
"What the hell?" I said as I righted myself onto the seat, pissed off as hell. The years had taken their toll on him, his once chocolate brown hair now had become silver, and his muscular frame slightly softer looking. His strong jaw and dark brown eyes were still the same though as I watched him watching me.
"Watch your language young lady," he replied.
"Fuck you," I replied back, rolling my eyes and crossing my arms over my pajamas. A cough from the front seat drew my attention and I glanced forward, locking eyes with whoever was in the driver's seat. I realized we probably looked and sounded ridiculous - it's the middle of the night and here I am looking like - and maybe acting like just a little- a child in her pajamas arguing with her father, who looks like he just walked out of court in his three piece suit.
My father sighs loudly, drawing my attention back to him.
"Listen, there is a lot I need to explain to you and I know you are not very happy right now. But I need you to understand some things so you don't end up hurting anyone, yourself included. Your mother is fine, before you interupt me to ask. She is back at the town you were staying in before. I finally got to explain things to her and after we talk I will let you call and talk to her," my father said, watching me for a reaction.
I really didn't care what he had to say - he had made his decision 8 years ago. But I would humor him in hopes that he would stop chasing me after this and let us live in peace.
"Go ahead, I'm listening," I replied, uncrossing my arms and taking a deep breath.
And so he began. He talked for what seemed like hours while we drove to God only know where. He explained to me about the 'other world' and about werewolves and magic and other shifters and how their world works. I didn't tell him that I already knew about witches, having run into one a few years ago and having kept in touch with her. He told me about how their genetics work and how it was very unusual for me to inherit his abilities and even more so for me to shift so young. He asked me about my wolf and he looked even more surprised by my answer. I took it all in stride. I mean it made sense that other creatures and magical beings existed because I did, right?
The last thing he explained was about college, a special college. Children of the leaders of these groups as well as any children showing special abilities or aptitudes were sent there for specialized training. It was more of a finishing school. All of the other children went to the schools in their territories - he said they didn't go to human schools. They were allowed to live in the human world - away from territories once they finished school, but that their school taught more than just basic curriculum. That's why he'd been trying to get to me all these years.
He explained that he was a leader of his group - an alpha- and I smiled remembering my mom saying he was in a cult. As his child- bastard or not- I was supposed to go to pack schools and this finishing school to learn to control myself.
I scoffed at that - "I've always been able to control myself."
He smiled back at me and said "That's actually more unusual than you know. Your wolf is very powerful and could be even more so. That's what the school is for - they will actually train you there and help you grow your powers."
Normally students attend there for 4 years - kind of like a high school. Students don't start there until after their fisrt shift, or show of powers. They have basic classes on the history of the races, sciences based on their races like alchemy or animal husbandry, math classes based on business models and how to grow your business as well as managment and economic courses. But they also had classes that I would test into based on my aptitudes. He told me that since I had shifted so long ago and that I had such control over myself I would only need to attend one year. He promised me that if I went ahead and attended for the year that he would leave me and my mother alone after that.
He said he hoped that I would want to come and visit now but that he could understand why I was hesitant. I asked him what would happen if I said no and he frowned. He told me that the council would then send enforcers after me and that they would imprison me until I complied or worse. That the council was always wary of rogues - afraid that they would accidentally expose their world.
He tossed a phone at me and told me to call my mom, which I did. We spoke for a few minutes, my mom encouraging me to go to the school for a year. After all, wasn't it worth giving up 1 year for a lifetime of freedom?
Azalea So here I was, sitting in the SUV with my father, mere miles from the school. A few weeks had passed since he had caught me and taken me back to Texas. I had outright refused to go onto pack lands and meet his people, so he had put me up at a hotel nearby. He had taken me shopping for a new wardrobe and all the things I would need for school as well as a few extras. I knew he was trying to make up for everything and I figured why not let him? I hadn't had many new things or much of anything while we were on the run so it was a nice feeling. He had set me up with a bank account as well and would be putting monthly allowance deposits in it for me as long as I attended school as an extra incentive. My father told me about 'our' family - I had an older brother who was training at the Alpha Academy near my school and a younger sister who was attending school with me - only two years behind me. I told him about all the cities we had been to and all the things that we had got
AzaleaWe finally reached the dorms and I could see my father's men waiting there by the doors. "Her bags have been placed in her room sir.""Thank you James. I'll be down shortly," my father replied. The dean led us up the stairs to the top floor, explaining that each floor held a different type of supe - mage, fae, other shifters and then werewolves. Wolves had their own floor as they outnumbered the other shifters 50:1. He explained that there was a common room on each floor as well that held multiple sofas and TV's and tables where they could study together. My room was at the end of the hall closest to a door that said not an exit. I smiled a little, hoping that was the door to the roof. I used to love climbing onto the roof at our apartments at night and just sit up there. My father opened the door with the key the dean had given him and we all walked in. I was pleasantly surprised - this place was bigger than most of the places I had lived with my mom the last several y
I stopped by my room and grabbed my empty back pack so I could bring some things back with me from the snack bar. I had no idea what they would have, but I didn't want to have to keep going down when I was hungry or thirsty. I walked slowly to the cafeteria, which sat in the middle behind the main office and the auditorium. I was surprised when I walked in through the doors. Off to one side was coolers and coolers filled with all kinds of drinks and cold snacks - like pudding and yogurt and ice cream as well as fruits and vegetables. There was a huge rack next to them that contained other fruits and vegetables as well as what looked like fresh baked goods. There were also shelves stacked with single serve snacks like pop tarts and chips. On the other side was what looked like a full buffet. A lot of it was shut down now because there weren't that many people on campus just yet. There was an area to leave your dishes and a rack that held to go containers as well as what looked
Azalea I woke to the feeling of warm sunshine on my face. I remembered all of this was real and I only had 10 months of this before being free. I quickly threw on some capris, a tshirt and flip flops. Looking at the time, I only had about two hours before I had to meet them and I wanted to make the most of it. I ate a quick yogurt and threw a juice into my backpack before grabbing my key and some poptarts before heading out the door. I got outside, stuffing the rest of the poptarts in my face as I walked to the forrest edge. Once I had gotten a little ways in to the tree line, I looked around and took a deep breath to ensure no one was around before undressing and putting my clothes into my bag. I found a hiding spot at the base of a tree to place my bag in before I shifted. It was a little uncomfortable as I hadn't shifted in months - not being in an area that had enough trees and not wanting to ask my father for a run. Once I shifted, I stretched, feeling the wind ruffle my
The nurse came in and quickly drew the blood before doing all the normal doctor stuff- height, weight, blood preasure, etc. Then Dr. Malone returned and asked me about my first shift - what it was like and verified my age. "Ok," the doctor said, "I'm going to close the curtain and I want you to go ahead and shift. I'm going to time you so let me know when you start and come out when you're done." I quickly got undressed, placing my cothes on the table before calling out to the doctor. Less than a minute later I peaked my snout out from behind the curtain and actually startled the doctor. "That was fast, under a minute," Dr. Malone said, writing on the chart in her hands. "I'm going to open the curtain so we can get some measurements on you." I stepped aside gingerly, not liking the feel of cold tile under my paws. The doctor frowned at me and reached out to ruffle my fur. "You have very unusual coloring for a wolf and are a little on the small side. Has your wolf always b
Azalea He grabbed my hand and practically dragged me off the field towards the cafeteria. After a few moments of shock passed, I jerked my hand away from his, causing him to stop and glance back at me. "Firstly, I'm not 4, you don't have to hold my hand and second... thanks," I said, rolling my neck a little. "You can call me Az. My mom does." He laughed a little and replied, "Lead the way, Az." I started walking again and he fell in step with me. I could tell he was bursting with questions and as we opened the door to the cafeteria, I said, "Ask. I can tell. Just ask." He blushed a little, clearly embarassed. "You and your wolf are pretty bad ass for being kinda small. Where did your coloring come from? I've never seen a red wolf or a silver one, let alone one with both. I do dig the purple curls though," he said, tugging lightly on one. I laughed at him, swatting his hand away as we walked over to the counter where full sized sandwiches on french bread were laid out
Azalea After he left I decided to grab a shower and a nap. I was mentally and physically exhausted. I woke up hours later and realized it was well past dusk. I glanced at my phone and saw it was almost 9pm. I hoped they would still have dinner warm so I hurriedly threw on a hoodie over my tank top and capris and slid my feet into a pair of wedges before hurrying to the cafeteria. Tonight was Mexican, one of my favorites, and luckily it was still warm. i loaded up some to go containers and grabbed a soda before heading back to my room. There I grabbed a flashlight and a towel and headed back to the roof. I loved being up there at night as it was quiet and peaceful. I ate dinner and quietly sang along to my favorite tunes. I must have fallen asleep again at some point and woke up to the sun not quite creeping up the horizon. I checked the time on my phone - I still had plenty of time for breakfast and figured I'd see what the cafeteria had to offer. I went quickly back to
AzaleaI walked over to the cafeteria, checking the time on my phone. I realized I had a message and wondered who would be messaging me. It was from #1Brother and I laughed a little. He sent me a message that just said You got this with a thumbs up emoji. I sent him a smiley face back and walked into the cafeteria. I wasn't paying attention and bumped into another body. "Watch where you're going mutt," a rude, high pitched voice said before pushing me away. I stumbled back, mumbling a quick "I'm sorry" before looking up and seeing it was my sister."Stay away from me and mine or you'll regret it," She said, stomping off. She looked exactly like your typical high school prep girl - cute little polo shirt with short khaki shorts and bubble gum pink sneakers that matched her shirt. Ugh, I thought. Just what I needed. Like I wasn't already on the bitch list. There were more people in here today, with the new students that had completed their testing already around, as well as
