[Author's POV]
As he watched Derris drive away, Max wondered what Aria was up to as he was now getting anxious. Few minutes later, his phone buzzed and on picking the call which happened to be from an unknown number, Aria said over the phone, "You can come in now."
Max nodded even though she probably couldn't see him and the call. He wondered whether or not to save Aria's number but decided against it and stepped out of the car.
Just before he walked into the hospital, Aria pulled him to the side and whispered, "Allison is in room 6B and remember you're the one who saved her and brought her to the hospital. Got it? Okay. Good luck." Then she pushed him into the reception and Max had to stop to glare at her but she was already running across the street.
Taking a deep breath, Max walked right past the receptionist desk, surprised that nobody stopped him. He quickly found room 6B and walked in and true to Aria's words, Allison lay unconscious on the bed with
[Allison's POV]It'd been a week since the incident at the dance and I'd pretty much recovered. Max and I had continued to hang out and as a result, had gotten a lot more closer which Nellie liked. And I kinda liked it too.Max was fun, nice and warm. He never hurt me and had never once made me cry. In a word, he was perfect and it would only be wise for me to stay with him right? The only problem was it didn't feel right. After Max saved me, I felt it was only right that I try and like him back. After all, I owed him my life but my feelings for Max weren't nearly as strong as what I felt for Derris.Speaking of Derris, since our little encounter at the dance, neither of us had spoken to each other. I hadn't approached him neither had he approached me but whenever I wasn't looking, I always got the feeling that someone was watching. And when I'd turn back, I'd see Derris turn away or look down.I'd owned up to the fact that Derris and I would never
[Author's POV]A flash of red and white was the only thing Max saw as he stepped on the brakes almost immediately, freezing at the sound of a thud. What just happened? he wondered, his hands glued to the steering and his eyes widened in shock and fear.Still he forced himself to walk out of the car and check who or what he just hit. As the rain poured down on him, Max was shocked to find Allison lying just mere inches away from his car. It would seem that he didn't hit her after all but just what had Allison been doing outside in a downpour like this? That was however a question he would have to know the answer to later.Quickly he scooped her up into his arms and rushed back to his car, carefully placing her in the passenger's seat beside him. He decided not to take her to an hospital but instead to his home where his family doctor could attend to her. While he drove, he was careful not to drive too fast and paid attention to the road
[Allison's POV] I woke up with one of the biggest headaches I'd ever had in my entire life. Every moment even blinking hurt and I felt nauseous. It took a few minutes for the nausea to pass and I was even able to sit up. Then I took note of my surroundings and realised one thing: I definitely wasn't at Derris' home. I'd seen pretty much every room in his home the day I tried looking for him so unless this was a secret room (then again, his home was pretty huge), I wasn't at Derris' meaning he hadn't rescued me. But if he hadn't, who did rescue me? The last memory I had before blacking out was hearing a screech after I ran out into the road so a car then? Where exactly was I? Just then, all my questions were answered when the door opened and Max walked in. "Hey, you're awake," he mentioned, his eyes lighting up as they fell on me. "Mmhmm," I nodded still having no idea what I was doing at Max's place and not Derris'. Max walked ov
"So that's basically the summary of everything that happened. I hope this doesn't change your opinion about me," I added silently after I was done narrating. My head was bowed so I was looking directly at the tray of food on my lap while I waited for Max's response."Allison, why would you almost getting raped change my opinion about you?" Max questioned softly and I looked up at him, holding back tears again. "I don't know. Maybe you'd think I was stupid for ever allowing a drunk old man into my house or maybe I wanted it to happen. I really didn't. I'm not some slut. Ugh! It's all just too much." I buried my face in my hands, overwhelmingly embarrassed just thinking about it.Max chuckled and said, "Allison, look at me.""I don't want to," I answered, my words muffled since I was still hiding my face."Allison! Come on. Do it," Max prodded. Slowly I looked up and locked eyes with Max's warm brown ones. He cupped my right cheek and caressed my face while
I had no idea why meeting Max's mom made me feel so nervous but it did. There was no particular reason for me to try and impress her since Max and I weren't a couple or anything like that but I just couldn't help it.The instant he and I stepped foot in the spacious kitchen, my nose were graced with a very tantalizing smell that alone made my belly growl despite the fact that I had just eaten. At the opposite end of the room by the cookers stood a woman stirring a pot of what I could only guess was soup but it sure smelt amazing. While I watched from the door, Max slowly snuck up on her, scaring her when she least expected it with a "Boo!""Max! I've told you to stop doing that!" She grabbed a ladle and hit him, obviously playfully because Max smiled and hugged her from behind. I could spot a clear smile on her face despite the offended expression she was trying hard to maintain. After Max eventually broke the hug, her eyes fell on me. I had still barely
After a very fun weekend spent at Max's home, I found myself walking down the halls with Max by my side on a bright Monday morning. Everyone kept staring at us just like they had been since Max brought me to the dance as his date and based on the number of stares we'd gotten in the parking lot, I knew it'd probably spread around the school that I'd spent the night at Max's home.Max didn't seem to mind the stares. In fact, the only thing he seemed concerned about was making sure that I was okay walking with my cast.I met up with Nellie by my locker and after Max left us, we continued the conversation we'd had been having the day before.Well, she continued it. I wasn't particularly interested in having the conversation."I really don't get why you don't want to report what happened to you to the police. You would rather the culprit walk free instead of making sure he doesn't get the chance to do it to somebody else again?" she queried.
Hours after hitting Derris, the story had traveled around the school and I was pretty much the most popular girl in the entire school and the internet. Of course, most of it was bad popularity and I was getting glares and stares everywhere I went but I was popular at least.Recess came around and despite not having spoken to Nellie since our conversation in the morning, we both found ourselves sitting down to eat at the same table as though nothing had happened. Habit.Since I didn't know if Nellie was still mad about my outburst, I decided to stay quiet and let her start the conversation if she wanted one.Still I couldn't resist stealing looks at her, desperately hoping she would speak up and say that she wasn't offended about this morning. Unfortunately, Nellie seemed quite engrossed in devouring her Shepherd's pie.I continued to glance at her, hanging onto the possibility that she would speak to me, even if just once. After a very long silence
Hours later, Nellie and I were on our way out of the school and we ran into Max. At that moment, it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't seen him all day. "Hey you guys. Where are you ladies off to?" he asked, fixing both of us a warm smile. "We're going over to her place. I'll be spending the night there," I informed him. His face instantly fell and he furrowed his brows. "Is that okay with you, Max?" "No no. It's okay. It's just– I was actually planning on taking you out. Like on a date," he divulged slowly while running his hand through his hair at the same time. "Oh, it's no problem then. What we have to do can wait." Nellie was already handing me over to him but I wasn't about to leave my best friend for a guy again. "Actually, it can't," I cut in with my mind made up. I turned to Max and inquired, "I'm sorry, Max but I already have plans with Nellie and I don't want to back out. Can what you have planned, like wait? Maybe till tomorrow?
