The hospital doors part with a gust of warm air.

James hasn’t answered my messages. Not even a thumbs up. Just… nothing.

And that nothing is what echoes the loudest.

I’m here to see what’s going on for myself. I could have called, I guess, but I want to be here. Maybe try and get him to have some dinner with me.

I grabbed an apple earlier but otherwise, I’m starving.

I slow down as I reach the nurse's station, scanning for a familiar face from earlier. There isn’t one. Must have been a shift change.

I make my way to Savannah’s room and push the door open.

Empty. There’s no one here and the bed looks freshly made up. No sign of James or Savannah.

My breath hitches.

I head back to the nurse’s station, swallowing down the nerves climbing up my throat.

“Hi, sorry… I’m looking for Savannah Blake? She was in room 217 earlier?”

The nurse doesn’t even glance up right away. She’s busy flipping through a chart.

I wait, hands clenched at my sides, heart thudding.
