Cassian POV
I heard a voice.
“Daddy!”
I looked up, expecting a mistake. A case of mistaken identity. But the boy ran straight to me, laughing as he hugged my leg.
I stared down, in disbelief.
He looked like me.
The resemblance wasn't just the usual one. The shape of his eyes. The tilt of his chin. The dark curls. It felt as if I was staring at a five year old me.
“Liam!” A woman shouted.
I knew the voice before I saw her.
It sounded like Leah.
No—Raven.
“I’m so sorry. He does this sometimes—runs to strangers and calls them daddy.” She grabbed his hand.
“Liam, we talked about this, remember?”
He looked up at her, confused. “But—”
“No buts,” she said as she dragged him away.
I just stared at the boy.
The boy was four. Maybe five.
I barely had time to process everything before I heard Talias voice.
“ Cass”
She shouted as she exited the terminal, dragging two designer bags behind her and wearing a scowl.
“Seriously, Cassian?” she snapped. “You couldn’t even come inside?”
“I was delayed.”
“Yeah, same way you have been delaying our marriage.” she shot back.
I blinked.
“Talia—”
She stepped closer. “I’ve waited five years, five good year's. And you still haven’t even declared her dead or even divorced her.”
“ Please, can we not do this here?”
“You left me no choice.”
She moved closer.
“If you had just picked up your phone—or better still stopped ignoring me—I wouldn’t be bringing this up at the airport.”
“ know what, it is either you declare her dead… or you lose me.”
My jaw clenched.
“That sounds like a threat.”
“It is,” she whispered.
“And if I don't.”
“ Then prepare for the worst Cassian. Because it is either I become your wife, or I become your enemy. Choose one and you sure do not want to have me as an enemy.”
Before I could respond, she walked away.
I should’ve gone after Talia. I should’ve said something. But I didn’t. Because all I could think of was a boy who looked like me and a woman who sounded exactly as Leah.
I didn’t realize I was walking until I was already standing beside my car. I needed to call Aiden to get this doubt off my mind.
My fingers hovered over my phone for a second before I gave in.
He picked on the third ring.
“I need to ask you something,” I said, skipping the pleasantries.
“You always do.”
I didn’t smile. “That day. The accident. Are you sure… Leah’s body was in the car?”
There was a pause.
“Cassian,” he said slowly, carefully, like he was stepping around landmines. “We’ve been over this. You asked me this last year. And the year before.”
“Just tell me.”
He sighed. “I saw the body myself. I saw her…face.”
“But the face was burned,” I pushed. “Due to the fire—her face was unrecognizable.”
“Cassain can you just let this go, it has been five years, she is dead and gone.”
“No! I need you to swear, Aiden, that you are sure it was her” I said, sounding desperate.
“I swear, Cass. It was her…”
I didn't wait to hear the rest, I just hung up. I clearly saw a boy that looked like me and a lady that had the same voice, same allergy and same scar as Leah. I needed more than a swear to believe that I was just being delusional.
---
The next day, Raven was scheduled to meet me again.
When she walked into the boardroom, she was perfectly put together—again. Black suit. But I watched her closer this time.
“ I am sorry about yesterday.” She said,
I nodded as I offered her a seat.
“So,” she said, flipping open her tablet, “I’ve updated the rollout timeline, have you gone through it?.”
I didn’t respond. Not right away. I was too busy trying to find traces of Leah in her face. And she looked nothing like her.
Or was I just being delusional?
“Mr. Wolfe?” she said, her voice interrupting my thoughts.
I blinked. “Yeah. Sorry. Go on.”
She gave me a long, unreadable look. “Are you even listening?”
“Ahm.” I said as I stood up. "I think that’s all for today," I said, my voice louder than I intended.
She nodded, gathering her papers. "I’ll have my assistant send over the finalized draft for you to sign"
I stood. "Thank you, Raven." I said, her name as if trying to convince myself that she was Raven and not Leah.
She nodded as she turned and left.
I didn’t follow immediately. I stayed in the office trying to clear my doubts.
After a few minutes, I made my way downstairs. I needed a distraction—something to stop these delusional thoughts.
Then I saw him.
Liam.
Raven’s son, crouched by a table, playing with a toy car. Alone. His mom was nowhere in sight.
I should have kept walking. I told myself to keep walking.
But I didn’t.
He looked up—and my heart stuttered. Those eyes. Oh my, those eyes.
Same eyes as mine. And for a moment, I lost my composure.
My feet moved before I made the decision.
"Hey, buddy," I said, crouching near him. "Cool car."
He smiled, unbothered. "It’s super fast."
I smiled back, trying not to get ahead of myself. "What’s your name?"
"Liam."
I looked at the boy closely and before I could think. I reached out and gently ruffled his hair. And then I took a strand of hair.
I swallowed hard.
Before he could say more, a woman—likely the nanny—held his hand, as she apologized and dragged him away.
I stood, dazed, staring at the hair on my hand and wondering if I truly had lost my mind but the only way to end this doubt was carrying out a DNA test.

The next morning, I dropped off the hair sample.

Hours passed.
Finally, my phone buzzed.
The message was simple.
Your DNA test results is ready.
My hands trembled.
I opened the message.
Aiden’s POVI opened the car door for her to enter but she was too busy looking around.“Oh my, it feels good to be out,” Rosy said, still looking around. “Ten years in that dump, breathing nothing but the stench of cheap bleach and dump and now—” She glanced around, inhaling again. “Now I can almost remember what power tastes like.”I held the door open a little wider. “Glad you’re enjoying the breeze.”She cut her eyes to me and gave me a face that meant business.“ Enough of the chit chat, how are the plans going?”“Smoothly,” I said. She looked at me and m, she laughed hysterically. The. She moved closer.“I didn’t spend ten years locked away,” she said slowly, “and I certainly didn’t waste twelve years prepping you up, Aiden, just to hear you mumble that things are going ‘smoothly.’” She said, mimicking the way I said smoothly. “Do you need me to remind you of who you were when I found you? Hmm?”I clenched my jaw. “No.”“I think you do.” She held my arm, her nails digging to my
Cassian's POV "No..." I whispered, as I stared at the flat-screen TV in my office. Leah didn’t just do that. She played it perfectly. Too perfectly. it wasn’t about her calling me a pedofile—God knows I probably deserve worse. But it was about the girl. Even though her face was partially blurred, even though she wore heavy makeup. Anyone who knew her would recognize that face. That she was Rosy’s daughter. And that for sure isn't good. I grabbed my phone and searched through the internet. I was trending or rather she was trending. #RosysDaughter. The comments were piling up. Speculations. Wild theories. But one post stood out. It had her full name. Her school. A recent photo. How on earth did Leah get her pics. My phone buzzed every second, from calls, to meessages. I ignored them all. I needed to control the damage first. I opened my laptop and drafted a quick press statement. "In light of the recent press statements made by Leah, I would like to clear the public t
Leah's POV I took a deep breath as I let them apply the finishing touch of my makeup. Then I heard a knock from the door and someone entered. It was Cassain. “ I just wanted to check up on you.” He said while closing the door I looked at him, trying to resist the urge of slapping him because I had a lot of pent up anger and things to say to him. “ Can you please excuse us?” I said to my makeup artist and everyone . They packed up and left my office, more like the storage room because clearly Vivienne made sure there was no office I could occupy so I had to stick to this. “ I am sorry, “ he said immediately as they left. I wanted to ask if he ever loved me but scratch that, I wanted to hit the bull by the horn. So I took the sharp hair pin on the table and walked to him. I moved closer to him, inches apart as I looked squarely in his eyes. And I pointed the sharp edge of the hairpin to my neck. “ Let me make it easy for you.” I said as I took his hand and placed i
Aiden’s POV“Damn it,” I muttered under my breath. The plan didn’t go how I wanted.Still, I wasn’t worried. Twenty years of my life had already gone into this, what were a few more months? Time wasn’t my enemy. The only thing standing in my way now was Leah. She wasn’t supposed to survive the warehouse fire.I had made sure everything was ready. The doors, the barrels, the timer. Everything. It would’ve been over. One clean sweep and I would finally have the Wolfe company all to myself. But then, Cassian just had to show up. He always had a way of messing things up. Maybe there was a way to use that to my advantage. Maybe I could turn this around.I knelt down and placed the single lily on my mother’s tombstone. “I’ll get the revenge you deserve,” I said , meaning every single word.“I promise, everyone who had a hand in your death will pay.” I continued fighting back the tears as I couldn't think of the painful memories ---I was ten when she died.My mom was strong. The kind of w
Leah's POVI banged the door hard—so hard I thought the door would break down. "Anyone here! Can someone please help me?" I shouted through the smoke. But there was no response. The smoke was suffocating. My eyes were watering. I coughed so hard I nearly dropped to my knees.Where the hell was my phone? Why didn’t I take it?I staggered backwards, hitting a crate. Everywhere was covered with smoke, I barely could see anything.I tried again. I screamed louder, my fust banging the door like my life depended on itBut still nothing.Damn it I shouldn't have come here, Aiden insisted I inspect the warehouse just in case Cassian or his mom tries to pull a fast one and since it was the workers lunchtime, it was just a perfect opportunity to inspect. Everyone who worked around here would be out.And now, I was choking to death trying to be smart. The heat was unbearable. I turned, covering my mouth with my sleeve, blinking through the smoke in the room , trying to search for anything tha
Cassian's POVThe boardroom was quiet. Old men in designer suits and women who believed their age could be hidden behind powdered faces all sat watching me like I was a boy who knew nothing about managing a company.“I have everything under control,” I said, not because I needed their assurance but just for formalities.Mrs. Sherry leaned forward in a frown. “ We don't need you to have everything under control, we need you to be in control and that would only be possible if your marriage to Talia happens.”There it was again back to Talia.I didn’t respond.Instead, I looked down at my wristwatch, watching time go because in about 3... 2... 1…Right on cue, the doors to the boardroom opened.Leah—no, Raven—walked in.Everyone turned and looked at her in shock , wondering who she was and why she was here. She didn't mind as she walked elegantly ignoring everyone.Vivienne stood up from her seat. “What are you doing here?” she snapped. “This meeting is for board members only. If you do
