His gaze wandered to her stomach and she sighed. Rob still blamed himself for taking her to the bar that night. Who knew she would have wandered off while drunk, and ended up in another man's arms.
"I took some medications, I'll be fine."
She had gone down to the pharmacy on the lowest floor of the hotel and got herself some drugs. She couldn't afford to go to the hospital as someone familiar might spot her. She would only be safe at this moment with her family. Unfortunately, she hadn't gotten any good news from Chloe yet. Her parents were still mad at her.
"Okay, if you say so." Rob stroked her hair and smiled. "Have you gotten the divorce papers?" He asked after some time. Hailey bit her lips and slowly shook her head. If Kendrick got better, he would send her the divorce papers without her even asking. She was sure of that. "I'll get it in a few days," she replied softly. "Until then..." She took his hand and continued."We can't see each other, Rob. I don't want to cause you trouble." Rob let out a soft chuckle and squeezed her hand. "I understand," he replied with a nod. Hailey smiled and rested her back on the chair. They went on chatting until the sun glided down over the horizon and the orange hues shone on her face. Rob offered to take her down to dinner but she turned him down politely. The urge to throw up was slowly building up in her stomach and she didn't want to spoil the evening. After he left, she went back to her hotel suite to continue dealing with her boredom. When the sky turned dark and the stars glittered from above, Hailey drew the curtains close and walked away from the window. She turned on the TV and flipped through the channels, but none caught her interest. She finally settled on a news channel to see what was going on in the city. From celebrities gossip, business commercials, fashion trends, and emerging technologies, Starling City's news channels always aired hot topics, entertainments, the latest gossip, and more. Tonight, they were airing news on the entertainment industry. Someone was mud-slinging at a celebrity. She gave the show her rapt attention as the celebrity who was being discussed was her sister's rival. Hailey couldn't understand why most A-list celebrities didn't get along. Natasha Wood. It had become a household name. The news showed she was spotted with some rich man who could give birth to her father. Her fans were in uproar and the reporters had been hustling after her since then. A director even cast her out of his show and the new female lead was now— Chloe?Hailey frowned. She was certain she hadn't seen wrong. Chloe Adams was written on the screen a few seconds ago. Before she could ponder further, her sister's photo popped up on the screen and she gasped. It was really her. Hailey's face broke into a grin and her hand wandered on the bed for her phone. She dialed Chloe's number and after exchanging pleasantries, she congratulated her. "Hailey, I've finally convinced Mum and Dad. They aren't going to tell Grandpa anymore," Chloe said after their little chat. Hailey's eyes lit up and she chuckled. She trusted her sister. Chloe always had her way with their parents and was always in their good books. Trying to get them to do something was only a piece of cake for her."But they still don't want to see you anytime soon," Chloe added in a low tone."Oh." Hailey sighed in disappointment. "Don't worry, they'll also change their minds about that after a short while.""Thanks, Chloe," Hailey murmured."It's not a big deal, Sis. Make sure you take care of yourself and don't let it bother you, okay?" "I will," Hailey assured her with a smile. She dropped down the phone and a sigh escaped her lips. Hopefully, things would ease out soon. She glanced down at her stomach and caressed it. Her bump had increased a little. What would her baby's gender be? She couldn't wait to find out. A yawn overtook her and after turning off the TV, she stretched on the bed. The few days that came, blended into each other. And Hailey hung out most of the time on the rooftop. Despite her request, Rob had come back to visit her a couple of times. Chloe had also dropped by a few times, so she didn't feel very lonely. It had been two weeks since she arrived at the hotel and Chloe had been hinting to her about her progress with their parents. Hailey had also spoken with her grandfather on the phone. The old man was blissfully unaware that her marriage was on the rocks. She knew it would break his heart as he was very fond of Kendrick, but Hailey had no choice. She got up one day, and after finishing her morning routine, and receiving Chloe's call that her parents wanted to see her in the evening, she sat down to watch the TV. Chloe had reported that her parents said, 'Since they hadn't received any notice from the court, it means Kendrick was going to let the matter go. They might consider forgiving her.' Hailey let out a deep sigh and pulled the sheet up to her chest. She was engrossed in the TV program when the doorbell rang. Was it food delivery? She frowned. But she had already eaten breakfast. And it wasn't lunchtime yet. It must be Rob. He must have gone to the rooftop and not found her there. Hailey got down from the bed and slid her legs into a pair of slippers. She smoothened out the creases on her dress and ran her fingers through her hair before heading to the door. She unlocked the door and opened it slightly, poking her head outside. "Rob—"However, it wasn't Rob.Hailey's heart jumped to her throat and she staggered back with dilated pupils. "K–Kendrick?"Please vote and support this book. If you enjoy it, add it to your library. Sharelene stood in a corner, watching everything unfold. The family was in a frenzy. She could only see fear in their eyes and hear the fright in their voices.As the staff wheeled Hailey out of the emergency room, a deafening silence fell upon the hallway. And Ken...He hadn't been himself since they came here. He hadn't been himself since a few days back when he learned Hailey was kidnapped. Neither would he speak to anyone, nor listen to those that tried to talk reason into him and advise him to take it rationally. Since a few days back, he was the complete opposite of the man she had met many years ago and had a second chance of getting close to again. The man that would always keep calm no matter the circumstances...He was nowhere to be found. Ken was completely different from that man she knew. In her mind, she'd almost gotten what she wanted... Or more specifically, what her family wanted. But now, staring down at the ring on her finger, it was as if the engagement neve

He'd never been able to wipe off his smile sin
***Kendrick paced in front of the Emergency Room. His heart was in his stomach and his hand never left his hair. It was as if she'd been inside there for hours now despite being wheeled in just now.No amount of self-reassurance could calm him. No one attempted to offer him reassuring words even. They've all been in the same dilemma.Her mother wouldn't stop crying and he couldn't find the heart to offer her those words he'd yearned so much to hear. Hadn't it all been his fault? Hailey was pregnant. How was that possible? When they arrived here, it was the first thing the nurses said after taking her vitals. But Kendrick still found it hard to digest.And the fact that the child would definitely turn out to be his only made him more confused. It made him angrier with himself. "Ken, what is going on here?" Rushed footsteps sounded in the hallway and he glanced sideways to find his parents as well as Sharelene. "What are you doing in this place? Is someone wounded?" Asked his f
~~~'Hailey.'Kendrick's hands trembled and his grip on the gun threatened to loosen. Staring up at the balcony where she was being held captive, he fought not to let the rage take over. The rage that became multifold the moment he sighted them dragging her here. Her body was limped. She looked worse than how she'd looked in the video. And an almost similar-looking lady, whose face was cascaded with tears, was being held at gunpoint beside her. Was that her mother? "Don't worry, Mr. Reid." Standing with them were the three shareholders. "She isn't dead yet. But she'll soon be, if you don't follow our commands."Mr. Weimar and the rest. Kendrick's assumption hadn't been wrong. They had a hand in this. "Already, you've broken one of our rules," scoffed one of them. "We thought we told you to come alone. Coming here with your friend is like seeking more trouble. Will Mr. Carter be competent enough to fend for himself?""Shit! Buddy, these stupid old fools are underestimating me," De
***"Hailey, listen to me!" Rob grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to look up. "This is important, you have to take it."Nothing was more important to Hailey right now than getting away from him. Not only did she fear these drugs he had brought her, but she also feared the way his demeanor had changed ever since he returned with them.Of course, even if Rob was really trying to save her, there was no way she was going to cooperate with him.Yesterday, he'd secretly taken her blood, waking her up. And he returned this morning, looking agitated and somehow angry at her. "Hailey!" Rob's hold became tighter. "You must take these drugs immediately. I can't get you out here if you don't. Please, Hailey." He softened his voice. "Just take the damned drugs, you'll feel better. We both will feel better.""What exactly is wrong with you?" Her mother's voice faded in the background. "Leave her alone, she doesn't want to take them. Please I'm begging you, don't torment her any further."While he
Maniac.Hailey lifted her hand weakly to send a slap across his face, but her hand went limp and fell mid-way."M–Murderer." She pushed his chest. "Just go, leave me alone.""Hailey." Footsteps approached the room and Rob said frantically, "Please hold on." He touched her forehead. "You're sick. I'll get someone to treat you. I'll get you out, I promise."Then he sprang to his feet and left, closing the door behind him. Hailey was left wondering how such lunatics could be left wandering among normal people. She sniffed and waddled back into her mother's embrace. How blind had she been to associate with these kinds of people in the past?And how could she put a stop to these endless noises and intense headaches? She didn't want to remember? She didn't want to recall whatever they had shared in the past. ***'Ken, you have to save me. These strange men have captured me and they won't release me until you come. If you don't come alone, Ken, they're going to kill me and my Mum.'Kendric
