Chapter Ten

It was past midnight when I found it.

Grandma’s mansion had gone quiet hours ago, the hallways silent.

Ruby was asleep upstairs.

The only light came from the lamp on my desk, shining on the journals I’d been looking through.

My eyes were tired, my head aches, I was exhausted, but I couldn’t stop.

Every page, every note in my mother’s handwriting felt like her voice guiding me.

And then, there it was.

A deed.

One of her estates.

It was located in the hills outside the city, the kind of property that would be worth millions today.

It was a small villa, in her notes, it was described as her “retreat,” the place she went when she wanted quiet.

But the deed itself… bore a different name.

Not hers.

Not mine.

Richard Black.

My heart dropped.

I blinked , and read again, searching for an error, a loophole, anything that would make it false.

But no, it was true.

It was in Richard Black's name.

The transfer had been recorded years ago, months after my mother’s death.

My stomach sank.

  • The Billionaire's Regret: The Ex wife's Revenge.   Chapter Twenty One

The walls of the Black estate pressed in on me like a vice. Too many whispers in the hallways, too many eyes watching me like I was a man losing his sanity. Maybe I was.The day began like most days, Elora demanding more, wanting her ring, her place beside me as my wife, her access to everything that came with my name. She’d sat on the red armchair in my office, her legs crossed, her lips parted red like she would kill me if I said no again.“You can’t keep delaying this,” she said, her voice soft. “The board is expecting our union. Russ is getting tired of waiting. Your father is expecting it. And frankly, Rowan, so am I.”I slammed the glass of whiskey on my desk, harder than I meant to. The whiskey spilling out, staining the papers on the table.“Don’t tell me what I can or cannot do.” My voice was low. The kind that made men scared. But Elora was not like the others. She leaned forward instead, her smile wide. “I only remind you because hesitation makes you look weak." She p

Everyone in the house was asleep.I read the note over and over again.**Meet me at the old fountain.**I hadn’t told anyone. Not Grandma, not Grandpa. I knew what they would say.**Don’t go, Alessia.****It's too dangerous.****Whoever’s leaving these roses and notes may not be who you think.**But they didn’t see him in the crowd. They didn’t feel that ache in their chest.I did.And I had to know.***********The night air was cold. The road that led to the fountain was long, a path I remember. I remembered running here with Michael.I told myself I was being foolish, that maybe no one would be there, that I would only find silence. But I kept walking , faster with each step, until at last, I saw the fountain.**********It stood just as it always had.I stopped at the edge of the fountain, as I tried to remember when Micheal and I came here. The place was empty.Of course it was.I laughed loudly. I held the note tight.Maybe I had wanted too much.I took a step closer to

The roses were still on my table the next morning.I couldn’t stop staring at the card. **You saw me.**The words rang in my head. The words had confirmed what my heart already knew, that the man was not just anyone. It was Michael.Michael was here.I hadn’t said his name to anyone since the night I’d dreamt of him. But now, I feel it. I needed to ask.And there was only one person I could ask.********I found Grandma in the garden. She was tending to her roses. Ruby sat nearby.“Grandma,” I said. She looked up at me. “Yes, child?”I paused. For so long, I’d dismissed questions, trained myself not to go too deep into truths people wanted hidden. With Rowan, curiosity had always been a problem. But here, with my grandmother, I didn’t want silence anymore.“What really happened with Michael?” I asked. “Why was he sent away?”For a moment, she said nothing, just stared at her hand. Finally, she sighed. “I wondered when you’d ask,” she murmured.“Then tell me. Please.”We mo

I couldn’t get the photograph out of my head.No matter how many times I tucked it back into the drawer, closed the desk, or even shoved it under my pillow as if hiding it could make it less real, it haunted me. My younger self, smiling happily And beside me, Michael.Michael, with his protective arm slung over my shoulders. It had been years since I thought of him so **vividly** But that photo, the fact that it was hidden, protected it, it was proof he wasn’t just some fading childhood memory. He was important. Why?The question continued endlessly in my mind.I tried to focus on training the next morning, running beside Ruby, sparring with Grandfather until my arms ached, reading balance sheets until the numbers blurred out.But every quiet moment, the photograph reappeared in my thoughts.By afternoon, I felt restless. So when Ruby held my hand and said, “Mama, let’s go to town. I want sweets!” I gave in.********* The sun was bright, the streets busy with vendors shoutin

I couldn’t sleep that night. The voices I overheard in the study replayed over and over in my head. Her mother’s death wasn’t an accident… the file’s missing… make sure she never finds it.By dawn, my pillow was wet with sweat. Ruby’s soft breathing beside me was the only thing that made me maintain my sanity. I reached out, brushing her hair back, but my hands were trembling. For years I had convinced myself that my mother’s death was a tragedy I had no right to question. People die during child birth. Accidents happen. That was what they told me, what I forced myself to accept. But last night something changed my mind, maybe her death wasn't normal. When the sun rose, I made my decision. It was time to confront my grandparents.*************I found them in the breakfast room, already seated. Grandfather with his newspaper folded neatly, glasses on his nose, and Grandmother with her teacup in hand, her posture impeccable as always. They looked so normal, so ordinary, but

  • The Billionaire's Regret: The Ex wife's Revenge.   Chapter Sixteen

The air in my grandmother’s mansion changed the moment extended family began flowing through the doors. It was no longer just the quiet pattern of my grandparents, Ruby’s laughter, and my own footsteps padding across polished marble floors. Suddenly, I heard voices I didn't exactly recognize in the room.At first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Part of me wanted to leave, to run from it.But another part of me, the one hardened by Rowan’s cruel smile, the Blacks’ greed, and my father’s endless dismissals. I knew I couldn’t run away. If I was going to build my life again, then winning back the respect of my own family was as important as any other battle I had to deal with.I had expected hostility. What I didn’t expect was the division, the warmth of some embraces, and the cold stares of others.************ The first to arrive were my grandmother’s younger brother, Uncle Charles, and his wife. He entered in like a politician, with his loud laugh and hugged me so tig
