Chapter 48 - Grace Stewart

Grace POV

“What’s with all the sirens?” My mom asks and I look over my shoulder to see several fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars driving down the street. I frown as I watch while we’re sitting at the window of the coffee shop just one block away from my house.

Mom asked me to meet her here because she didn’t want to bump into Dash. I think she still hasn’t gotten over the fact he stepped up and saved me when I needed him to. I hadn’t told her it was fake in the beginning. I don’t want to have to explain to her how a man who barely knew me came to my rescue.

“I don’t know,” I say as I look at her and she shrugs as she holds her teacup and I watch while my mom becomes half the woman she was. She looks defeated. Her hair is not styled her usual way and even her clothes are not as shiny as usual. It’s like she decided to grieve her relationship and she is wearing all black. I can’t really blame her.
