Lucien's POV
“Why did you get out of your room?” I helped her lay back down. Her hands were cold as ice as she shivered uncontrollably. “It seems like you are coming up with a fever. It might be your body reacting to the silver that was once in it,” “Nice,” she scoffed. “An alpha and a caregiver, you are full of surprises. I wonder what else you have in store,” She added with a smile that lightened the mood. “That's pretty much all the gifts I have. And why did you even step out of your room?” “I heard how chaotic it was, so I decided to check it out,” She answered softly. There was no fire in her, it was like she had lost her purpose, her hope. “Rest,” I patted her down. I looked around the room, trying to avoid direct eye contact because of the allegations that I couldn't shake off my mind. I wondered what if, just if they were right. I couldn't tell, I couldn't assume that my oldest friend, the twin of my beloved, would murder her sister. I stepped out after tucking her in, my mind felt fragmented, my focus rattled as worry slowly sunk in. “How is he?” I asked the doctor that stepped out of Zane’s room. “We are planning on amping the sedative dosage,” He replied cautiously. From his voice, I could tell that there was something more to the news. “Amping it? Why?” I retorted. He sighed, scratching his head while his eyes scurried around the room. Obviously looking for someone that could bail him out of the tense situation. “You better start speaking before I take an action that would make you speak,” “It's not working, Alpha,” He spat swiftly. He took a deep breath before proceeding. “We have given him a dose to knock out a mountain beast but he is still wide awake for some reason,” I slowly walked to the threshold, observing how quiet he was, unblinking as he stared at the light bulb. “What has happened to my brother?” I asked calmly, pushing down the fear that was eating my heart. I couldn't feel anything other than that, the numbing sensation of cold fright. “We have no idea but we intend to find out soon,” The doctor answered sharply as he handed a file to one of the nurses. “I have just booked an MRI scan. Hopefully we will get better exposure when we go into his brain,” “Thank you,” “If you will excuse me,” He muttered with a bow before walking away. I approached Zane's bed side slowly, the broken look he had destroyed me. It was like staring at an empty shell. “Looking at you now, you kind of look like mother,” I chuckled lightly. “It's vexing because you have none of her attributes. She gives up too quickly, you do not…” I paused when I noticed that he flinched. “You are a fighter, Zane!” I grunted heavily. “You don't give up and you won't now. I don't know what is going on inside your head or who is behind this but you will pull through,” With a heavy breath, I added, “I love you brother,” I grabbed his hand firmly and slowly his eyes closed shut. His pounding heart rate slowly began to drop as he drifted asleep. “Stay strong, Zane. I will be waiting for you,” I muttered before I headed out of the room. Facing my brother pulled my focus to a problem that I had been running away from, a problem that I needed to face head on without any form of sentiment. “Angelina,” I walked into her room to see her reading a magazine with a beaming look . Something felt off when I walked in, everything felt wrong. I wanted to pass it off as my paranoia and wolf instinct acting up because of the sensitive issue but I just couldn't. First, her breathing was out of rhythm, controlled but still out of rhythm. Which showed she moved in a hurry. The magazine had a date placed two weeks back, an old magazine that could only be found outside the hospital and it wasn't in the room when I brought her in moments back. “Is everything okay?” She asked, pulling me out of the moment. “Yeah,” I exhaled, grinning to make my response convincing. “I was worried, just came to check up on you. That's all,” “I miss her,” She muttered just when I was about to leave. “I see her everyday in the mirror, I see her smile, I see her eyes and it haunts me. I hate myself for it,” “No,” I reached out to her. “You are a reminder of the good she lived for, the love she brought to the world, you are her twin,” I said, finally able to gaze into her eyes. I hesitated to proceed with my words, a step that I didn't want to take but it seemed necessary at the moment. “Have you heard the news?” I asked her. A sudden worry fell on her face as she stared back in suspense. “Tell me,” “Trivia's death is now marked as a murder, a homicide. She was killed, Angelina,” I said and she reacted in disbelief. “We found evidence of it,” “You are saying… Triv was killed?” “Yes and the killer is still out there,” I voiced in a deep icy tone as I stared into her eyes, looking for something, anything that will convince me otherwise but I got nothing. That was a sign for me to push further. “The killer managed to fool all of us and I will find the person and I will rip their throats out of their head and hang them with it,” I kept my gaze on her and noticed how she gulped hard anxiously. “Or maybe your brother beat you to it,” she said. “What do you mean?” I responded curiously as I drew closer to her on the bed. “Romero, he always had it for Trivia. With him behind killing the royals, it's only …” “Wait, wait,” I stopped her before she could continue. “We haven't ruled him as the killer yet, we don't know for certain that he is the killer,” “What more do you want?” She asked, sounding almost impatient. “He had the files, the blueprints of their fucking houses. How will he come by such documents? He is far more involved,” Her words caused a sudden turmoil within me. My blood boiled with agony as it all became clear to me. “How did you know about the blue prints and the files? You haven't left your room,” my question caught her off guard. “Lucien, you…” she paused, her face conveying a sense of confusion. But it was all a facade that I could finally see through. I could spot the smile behind the act. “Answer me, Angelina,” I said calmly. I was face to face with my mate's killer. The heart crushing part was that she was the reflection of her. “I w…” “Hey mummy,” A little girl said by the door, cutting her shirt. I was puzzled by the scene and the look the child had on. She was no little girl and my instincts went into a sudden overdrive. “What are you doing here?” Angelina asked. She was so surprised to see the girl. “Daddy sent me, he wants you to bring brother to him,” She said and suddenly her gaze turned straight to me. “Hello brother,”Lucien's POV “Why did you get out of your room?” I helped her lay back down. Brielle's POV“Zane!” Lucien's voice thundered in the hospital as he stormed in. Zane was restrained to a bed, the look he had scared me at first glance. “What is wrong with you?” “Alpha,” A doctor stopped Lucien from moving further. “Your brother appears to be suffering some sort of mental breakdown. So if you don't mind, we will need you to take it easy on him,” “Breakdown?” Lucien reacted. “What's happening to my brother?” He asked the doctors. Their faces explained enough that they had no idea what was wrong with him. “Zane,” I called out softly. He responded to my voice by turning his gaze to me, his eyes were blood red and teary. It carried a mix of emotions that I couldn't describe. Pain, anger, fear, sadness. All of them bubbled inside of him and it hurt me to see him like that. “Just give us time to work,” The doctor ushered us to the waiting room. Lucien was unsettled, looking over his shoulders to his brother. I could feel how worried he was and it was an overwhelmin
Lucien's POV She wouldn't leave his side, his blood all over her outfit as they bagged up the body and placed it in the ambulance. The loud siren sound filled the area and the abandoned company and woods were marked as a crime scene. Since the incident, Zane has been nowhere to be found.Forensics and detectives filled the area soon enough. I was proud that they were using the budget allocated for great use. The law enforcement department took the highest budget that year. A necessary upgrade to ensure peace during this Chase fiasco. “You might want to see this, Alpha,” The Inspector said to me as I waited outside the crime scene. I hesitated to follow her into the warehouse. I didn't want to leave Brielle in such a condition. She still looked shaken, her hands shivered in the blanket and I could feel her fear through our mate bond. “Do I have to come along?” I replied. “The evidence unit is yet to bag them, so it's best you come see them now because they can't be moved,” She said
Lucien's POV “Where is she?” No one could answer my question. Law enforcement had begun going through security footage and interrogating hospital personnel and staff. “I'm sorry brother,” Zane approached me. “I should have known something was wrong. I thought maybe she needed space and I didn't see what was coming next,” I exhaled deeply, letting out the frustration through my breath. “No, it's no one's fault. We are going to get her back,” “Chase might already have her,” He stated the fear that was clearly on both our minds. I suspected it might be him but I remained optimistic, hoping for the best.“Then I will get her back,” I responded. My expression was as cold as the chills that ran through my veins. “I don't care about who but I am certain that I'm not going to let her be anyone's captive. Are you, brother?”The anger in his eyes was visible and he was still going through a lot of pain from his injuries. But that wouldn't stop him, “I will die before I let anything ha
Brielle's POV “You need help, Romero. I can give it to you, I can help,” I muttered out of fear, I couldn't help but quake as he got even nearer. “Help? What do you think I am?” He replied with a distorted expression. The smile on his face sent chills up my spine. “No, I don't need help. I am the one helping alright,” “Just let me go please,” “Stop begging!” He thundered angrily. Stretched out his hands, trying to reach me. “I didn't kidnap you, I just needed to show you the evidence I had gathered so far. I don't want to hurt you,” I was careful, I didn't know the words that might trigger him and I wanted to use that moment to my advantage. “Okay, show me what you brought me here for,” “Alright,” He exhaled heavily with a soft laugh. “I almost thought you were like the others. Come,” He beckoned on me, I drew closer cautiously. Trying to hide the fear that was tearing through my heart. “This is what I'm talking about,” He pulled out a photo that had some sides worn out.
Brielle's POV “Walk out with me slowly,” He whispered, hoarsely. “Don't try anything smart with me girl,I'm not in the mood,” “Kidnapping? Again, really?” I voiced to myself as I walked beside him to the exit. He looked baffled, uncomfortably on edge as he stood close to me. “Yo, kitten!” Zane's voice erupted behind me. “Where do you think you are going? We need to get back inside, brainstorming and all,” “Be natural,” Romero muttered quietly. I turned to see a concerned expression on Zane's face as he held onto the wound by his side. He really looked beat and with Romero history with substances, I knew he would kill Zane out of desperation. That wasn't an outcome I can live with. “I just wanted some air, that's all,” I replied to him with a smile. Romero walked ahead a few paces, far enough to avoid suspicion but close enough to act. “The last time you needed air, you got kidnapped. That's not happening, get back in the room,” He shot back. “Please, Zane,” I said softly, l
