I couldn't stop staring at the map. The words my mother had written echoed over and over in my mind.

When the castle stands on the edge of ruin, seek the Chamber of Echoes and trust no one until you find the Silver Flame.

The castle was already on the edge of ruin. I gently shut the diary and held it against my chest.

"Kael."

He turned to look at me.

"I think my mother knew this day would come."

His expression softened.

"I believe she did."

  • The Lycan King Who Claimed Me   The Lock Remembers

The sky tore open. I couldn't breathe as the giant eyes above us peered at the battle field. They weren't human eyes. They were too big, too old, and somehow familiar. The Heart in my chest pounded once, then grew frantic. Kael stepped in front of me."Aria.""I'm fine."'You're shaking.' I looked down at my hands. He was right. They trembled, but it wasn't fear that made them shake. Something inside me reacted to what hovered above. The masked woman smiled.'You feel it don't you?' I stared at her.'What is it?' She turned her head towards the sky'Your beginning.' My stomach twisted. The giant eyes blinked. The entire mountain trembled. The ancient warriors all dropped to their knees. Every last one of them. Fifty thousand warriors, even the Shadow King, even Adrian, even Lyssara - they all knelt, but I did not. I couldn't. The Heart in my chest grew unbea

  • The Lycan King Who Claimed Me   The First Queen

I couldn't take my eyes off of her. The woman standing beside the First King wasn't like a warrior. She didn't have to be. Something about her presence made the whole battlefield smaller. The First King kept on one knee before her. It was enough to terrify me. He never knelt before anyone. Never before the Council, never before the ancient army, and not even before the power of the Original Heart. But he was on his knees before her. I glanced at Elyra. She was still staring at the woman."You know her." Elyra didn't answer."Elyra." Her eyes came to meet mine."She shouldn't be here.""Who is she?" Elyra swallowed."The first ruler of our bloodline." I looked back at the woman."The First Moon Queen?""No." Elyra's voice dropped."The one before her." My heart pounded."There was another?""She was erased.""Why?" Elyra looked at the woman."Because she wasn't supposed to surviv

"Run!" Elyra's scream was the last thing I heard before the mountain shook again. I grabbed onto Kael's hand."Move!" We ran. The chamber was coming down around us. Stones fell from the ceiling as dust filled the air with cracks spidering out below our feet. Behind us there was some kind of huge creature advancing. I could feel it. Not with my body, but with the Heart. Whatever was under the mountain had taken notice of me. It was awake."Aria!" Kael pulled me aside just as a huge stone crashed where I had been standing. I looked back. The huge golden eye under the chamber had opened wider. I couldn't see the full creature, but I didn't need to. The look in that eye was enough to make my blood run cold."What is that?" Kael asked. Elyra was still standing behind us. She hadn't moved. She was fixing her gaze on the darkness below."Elyra!" I shouted. "Come with us!" She slowly turned towards me."

For several seconds, nobody moved. The ancient soldiers kept kneeling. Their armor clanged against the rock as thousands of heads bowed before the woman."Elyra." The name rolled off my tongue. I had expected another monster, another ancient king to step forward and reveal himself, but instead, I was faced with someone who looked frighteningly familiar. Same silver hair, same high cheekbones, and almost same eyes. But there was something different about her. Something empty. Like someone who had been waiting for a very long time and had forgotten what it meant to hope. Kael stepped in front of me.“Stay behind me.” Elyra looked up at him and smiled.“Still playing hero?” Kael frowned.“Doing what?”“Standing between her and everything that wants to hurt her.” Her gaze softened as it landed on me.“You always seem to attract protectors.” I stepped around Kael.

The mountain moved, but not an earthquake. It was slower and more deliberate. Like something massive beneath the earth had stretched after centuries of sleep. I stiffened. The army surrounding us had fallen silent. Even the wind seemed to hush. Kael moved closer to me."Aria.""I heard it." Another vibration rolled beneath our feet. Lyssara's expression twisted."That's not the First King." Adrian turned his head toward the mountain."No." It was barely a whisper."It isn't." Mother took a step back. It was the first time I had ever seen her look truly afraid."Mother?" Mother didn't answer."Mother." She finally met my eyes."Run." Kael's grip tightened around his sword."From what?" Mother swallowed hard."From whatever is beneath us." There was a sickening crack as the ground split open. The army of ancient soldiers fell backward as one. I turned toward them. Even

  • The Lycan King Who Claimed Me   The Army Beneath The Mountain

The first warrior climbed through the floor. Another followed, then ten, then hundreds. Their armor were blackened with age, but their weapons appear new. Ancient swords, spears and axes. Every soldier wore the same sigil, a broken crown encircled by flames. The First King's army. An army that had slept beneath the mountain for three thousand years. Kael walked in front of me."How are we supposed to stop an army that has waited three thousand years to kill us?" Adrian stared at the soldiers."We aren't." I looked at him."What?""We leave." Lyssara frowned."Run?""Survive." Another part of the floor collapsed, revealing dozens of warriors climbing through the broken tiles. The Shadow King swung his weapon and destroyed the nearest group."There's no way through them." Adrian looked to the ceiling."There is." He looked at the temple's entrance."The temple has anothe
