Vee’s POV

I wanted to leave her there.

If Vera willingly went with Jumbo, after everything I had told her about Adonis and his cult, after we made a plan to run away and never come back, if after all these, Vera decided to impersonate me and leave with jumbo, then there was absolutely no need for me to run after her.

She made her choice and there’s absolutely no need for me to rescue her. She was a grown woman, capable of making her own decisions and living with the consequences.

Then again, there was also a small chance that Jumbo saw her, assumed she was me and abducted her, since his orders were to bring me back yesterday.

If there was even a small chance that she was taken against her will, then I had to go back for my sister.

I promised my mother that I would always look out for Vera and that was exactly what I was going to do.

I sighed as the taxi pulled to a stop in front of the road blockade. The driver glanced at me through the rear mirror.

I had this huge room to myself and servants tending to my every needs, bringing me sumptuous three course meals for breakfast, dinner and lunch. I even had a wardrobe filled with designer clothes. This certainly was the life!My sister was the modest one. She was too comfortable with being poor and struggling. She had all these and she decided to give it all up, to run away to another state and start struggling all over again. All because she thinks this to be a cultI just can’t do that. Not anymore. Not when I could have all this to myself. ! I don’t care if this was the illuminati as long I get to live a good, comfortable life, I was fine with it!Sure, Vee would be mad at me when she finds out what I had done, but she will come around eventually. Even if she doesn’t it would still be fine. My eyes flickered shut as I inhaled, filling my lungs with the mild sce

Vera’s POVThe doctor was quite cute for an older man, with deep blue eyes, salt and pepper dark hair, and glasses - which he kept adjusting on the bridge of his nose – hid his kind eyes. He was the only one who didn’t glare at me, he had just flashed a polite smile and offered me a seat.I could not help but wonder what Vee had done to make almost everyone hate her. It was as though everyone here was out to get me, from the house helps, the guards and nurses, to ordinary passersby. I perched at the edge of the bed, swinging my legs nervously. The doctor had gone to get the test results. It’s already been an hour and he still hasn’t returned. My nerves were killing me on the inside. Those reports is sure to expose my lies and prove that I was in fact the wrong sister. There wasn’t even a scar on my shoulder, much less one resembling a gunshot wound. I was certainly fucked.Who knows what Adonis would do to me if the truth was revealed. I can’t even run away, there were way too many

Vee’s POV Just staring at Vera, filled me with rage. We could have been in a new state by now, far away from all this shit. Even further away from Adonis. And because of her not only am I still in this godforsaken town, I am at Adonis’s mansion. Yet again. And there she was, humming and strolling around in a bath robe like she owned the place. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaàaaaaaaaaaàa “We had a fucking plan Vera!” I shrieked through clenched teeth. “What are you doing here?” she scurried to the door and turned the lock. I scoffed in disbelief. She wasn’t even slightly remorseful. “I came to rescue you from your own stupidity!” “Lower your voice Vee, someone could hear you,” she sighed, folding her hands over her chest, “I don’t need rescuing. I like it here.” I scoffed. Why aren’t I surprised by Vera’s stupidity? I have always had to save her from shitty situations she always managed to put herself in. I don’t even know why I bothered coming here. “You do realize th

  • The Lycan King's Game    26 – A kiss and a cut

Adonis’s POV Seeing Vee naked took me by surprise. I wanted to pick up, press her against the wall with her slender legs wrapped around my waist and have her like a deranged wolf. She was beautiful, with long sculpted legs, perky mold of breasts that would fit perfectly in my large hands and the burning desire in her fierce green eyes that only made me want her even more. It took every ounce of resistance I had in me to steel myself and not give into Nate’s fight for control. Fuck a charade wedding, Nate wanted to mark her there. The sweet scent of her arousal was driving Nate out of control, making it even more difficult to keep him under control. I may hate the half breed, but the last thing I want is for her to be ripped apart by Nate. She would not be able to handle him. And just when I was able to reign in my outrageous desires, she kissed me. This was the first time, since she returned from saving her sister, that I felt the mate bond – raw, with twice the magnetic fo

Vee’s POVWhy was I feeling lightheaded all of a sudden? My head was heavy, like a load had been place on it, while my heart drummed in my ears and I was out of breathe like I had just finished a race.I took deep, steadying breathes to calm my racing heart. Why was I feeling like this again? I had only felt like this once, on the night my mother died. I had been so sure I was dying, as I struggled to catch my breath, holding onto my mother’s weak hand like my life depended on it. But I didn’t die. My mother had placed her other hand on mine and whispered ‘I will see you soon Ura’, with a sad smile.I hadn’t read much meaning into it, mostly because she had been mumbling a lot of things that didn’t make sense during her last weeks, like how some powerful forces were trying to kill her and how she needed to ‘hide me from the world’. According to doctor, the more the tumor grew, the more delusional and forgetful she would became. Eventually she began to forget. Several times I went to

Vee’s POV Vera clutched her cheek, her eyes twinkling with unshed tears, while laughing frantically. “Go ahead hit me some more, it doesn’t change the fact that you are a fricking snake!” I felt sorry for hitting her but even more, I felt sorry for myself, for always running head first into whatever trouble Vera gets herself into just to save her. I have been beaten and mocked for Vera's sake, I have even being kidnapped and almost killed for Vera and this is what she thinks of me. A hypocrite trying to present myself as the good sister and for what? There was no use arguing with Vera, she could stay here and die for all I care. I don’t care anymore. “All I have ever done is take care of you and all you have ever done is…” “Save it for someone who cares,” she spat, her hand falling to her side. “Don’t play this oppressed sister card with me. I have watched you play that card with mum for years. To mum I was the bad child. The poisoned apple.” “She never said that!” “But she tho

Vee’s POV All I seemed to do was get in one trouble after another. I just wanted to maintain a low profile and get the hell out of here but it almost seems like the universe was against me leaving. A shirtless, bulky man, stood at the doorframe and glared down at me with bloodshot eyes. He looked at me with hate and indignation just like every other person here did. His dark eyes darted behind, the anger in his eyes seemed to have boiled over when he saw the trashed table behind me. “What do you think you are doing here?” he barked, shoving the door open and hitting my nose in the process. I winced, staggering backwards as my hands instinctively clutched my nose. “It wasn’t me,” I muttered weakly. Tears welled up in my eyes as pain seared through my nose. I hope it isn't broken. He stepped further into the room, with his alert eyes darting around for anything amiss. I tried to keep the fear sipping into my chest at bay, all of a sudden a broken nose became the least of my

Adonis’s POV All did I did was think about her. The gentle curves of her body, her long slender legs, her curly chestnut hair - that were always constricted in a bun - reminding me of the wild flowers that grew in my mother’s garden; the way her body had melded perfectly into mine, in a way that made me think of a slender hotdog engulfed in a buff buns. And God her scent! The natural fragrance lingered in my nostrils long after she ran out of the dining room. For the first time, her human scent wasn’t disgusting, it was delicious. Delicious enough to make me rock hard just by thinking about it. I had Nate and the mate bond to thank for that. I knew I had to stop thinking about the half breed in that manner, she wasn’t mine and she would never be. I only needed her to heal me and after that that, we'll go out separate way. The thought of killing her was no longer intriguing. I still couldn’t get a good night sleep, not after she had kissed me and left Nate all riled up. Now

Nena’s POVThe cave was cold, despite the flames that danced in the iron bowls lining the walls. The firelight flickered across the Helga’s face—her eyes were closed, her lips murmuring a chant older than memory, the kind that made the air feel too heavy to breathe.I knelt before her, naked, bare feet pressed against the rough stone, knees bruised from the hard ground. My fingers trembled in my lap, though I tried to still them. The copper tang of dried blood lingered in my mouth from the offering. My offering. This was a choice I made, then why was I feeling so scared.Tonight, I would either become who I was meant to be or die trying. Whichever way it pans out, I will accept it as the will of the goddess. The chant stop. I glanced up to find Helga staring down at me, worried lines framing her face. “It’s not to late to change your mind yet, Nena.”As tempting as that sounded, I had to do this. It was the only way I would be strong enough to defeat my enemies. “I want this.”

  • The Lycan King's Game    35

Nena’s POV The strange woman still hadn’t woken up. After I brought her home yesterday, I tried to reach Helga. I had even gone by her place, but it was locked. I guess it had something to do with the unbound incident. I had to invite Lydia, a nurse and a former close friend of Ezra, to take a look. Lydia had tended to the woman’s wounds and injected her with some antibiotics and painkillers since her wounds weren’t healing on its own. It wasn’t unusual for Lycan’s to be unable to heal themselves. Only manifested Lycan’s could heal on their own, Lycan’s who could transform. The binding spell on me, meant that I could never manifest, hence I could not heal on my own. I had hoped that the woman would wake up before the end of the day, to at least tell me who she was and how to reach out to her family. Besides, I don’t exactly know how to take care of people. Heck, I have never had to take care of anyone or anything in my life, just my garden. She would be in better hands if

  • The Lycan King's Game    34 – The girl in the woods

Nena’s POV It didn’t matter how many deep breathes I took, I still felt really nervous. I knocked back the last of the concoction Helga had given me, the black liquid burned my throat on its way down, leaving a tingling feeling in my belly. By tomorrow, Helga would undo the binding spell and I can finally be free. I have trained every day in preparation for the selection event. I had also gone by the king’s training ground to watch the men train and I could tell that physically I wasn’t exactly a match, but with my powers I would more that stand a chance. I would win. I have to win. Instinctively, I reached for the photo on the night stand. Ezra had his signature wide, boyish smile on his face, with his eyes fixed on me. We had taken the photo on the day of our engagement. I wasn’t smiling in the picture, but the sunshine of his smile more than made up for my lack of smile. I had still been heartbroken over Fang. He had left me devastated, with no will to leave and without a

  • The Lycan King's Game    33 - How do you fight the dead?

Adonis’s POV Nate thundered through the forest at full speed, crunching dried leaves and stomping raised roots and fallen twigs in his path. The scents of the unbounds were still fresh, making it easier to track and Nate was still riled up from the attack, he hoped there would be more unbounds at the end of the trail for him to kill to his satisfaction. The three trackers, Neden, Zeke and Gozie, were still far behind. Even at full speed, they would not be able to catch up with Nate. Fang stayed back to take care of the feral Lycans and make sure that no unbounds were lurking around. Vee’s safety was priority now. Those unbounds were there for her and I have a feeling they will keep trying to take her. I need to know who wants her and why they want her. If this trail could lead me to whoever was involved in this, then I just might get my answers. Up ahead, I could hear a flowing river and the scent got stronger. Nate ran even faster, he may not be a big fan of water but to get

  • The Lycan King's Game    32 – Unbounds

Adonis’s POV When Helga stated that she sensed blood magic, I had a feeling that things were about to get messy. What I didn’t expect was it would get this messy. As soon as I had stepped out of the palace, I noticed Fang taking his taking his clothes off and growling at the distance. I couldn’t see what he was growling at but I sure as hell could feel them coming at us in full speed. The smell felt like acid burning through my nostrils all the way to my throat. It certainly was blood magic. But how? The circle had banned the use of blood magic by witches and sorcerers. So why then can I sense black magic and most importantly, how where they able to breach my territory. Nate growled in my head, in excitement as I took my clothes off. It has been five years since he got any real action. “Be careful,” Helga murmured, staring into the distance, with worry lines creasing her forehead and the corner of her eyes. There is only one witch I know uses blood magic, which was why the c

  • The Lycan King's Game    31 - Monster

Vee’s POV I don’t know what was in the bitter concoction the old woman gave me, but I was grateful for it. All the pain racking my body was gone in a matter of seconds. But I felt weak. I needed to sleep, to reboot my system and then find a way to leave this place before I and Vera are discovered. But first, a little power nap. My eyelids almost fluttered shut when the door to the balcony was kicked open, Adonis sprinted across the room with a cold expression etched on his face. Helga followed behind him, just not as fast. She looked even older with the worried frown on her face. Before I could form any words they were both out of the room, slamming the door behind them. Did something happen? As though in response to my question, several set of hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway. Fuck a power nap, I had to find out what was going on. I climbed out of bed and slowly got to my feet. A wave of dizzy spell hit me, I still myself, with my eyes pressed shut, and waited
