CHAPTER 5: Seraphina's First Work

Devon noticed Seraphina's face while they were happily eating the cookies she made. He immediately held her cheek to make her look at him.

"What's bothering you? I can help," Devon said with concern, and she smiled back at him.

"I don't want to stay here, I want to work," she said sadly, and Devon didn't want to see her upset. So, he quickly thought of a way to cheer her up.

"You can work at my company," Devon suggested, and Seraphina looked at him like a child, her eyes still a bit sleepy.

"Did you just say your company?" Seraphina asked in surprise, realizing that she really didn't know who he was. Devon couldn't help but laugh because he thought there was no one else who didn't recognize him.

"You're laughing!" Seraphina said.

Who would have thought that she didn't know him? Meanwhile, everyone knows him well, which made Devon think that's why she treats him this way. She doesn't even seem scared to say whatever comes to her mind, even if she hasn't thought it through.

"Why don't you just smile all the time? You're so handsome," Seraphina's words made him want to hug her, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it.

"I want to work, you said you have a company?" Seraphina said with a pout, making her even cuter in Devon's eyes, so he couldn't say no to her.

"Yeah," he said while Seraphina was playing with her fingers. "What’s the name of your company?" Seraphina asked, and Devon just smiled at her before he answered.

"Donovan Industry," he said simply, and Seraphina's eyes widened as she couldn’t help but think.

'Isn’t Donovan Industry the most popular company in the world?' she thought, while Devon just laughed at her because she was so innocent.

"You're right," he replied, and Seraphina was truly shocked by what he said; her hunch was correct. She couldn’t help but cover her mouth in surprise.

"It’s alright, it’s not your fault that you didn’t know," Devon clarified, not realizing he was being so soft around her.

Even though this person doesn't really do anything except shout and be cold, Devon is truly making an effort to get Seraphina's attention. When that day comes, Devon will definitely do everything he can do to protect her and make sure she doesn't get hurt, even if it's just a little.

"Can I start working tomorrow?" Devon nodded at Setaphina, even though he really didn't want her to take on any job at all.

But since there was a perk to it, he quickly agreed. He also wanted to see Seraphina's face every day.

"But I have a small request," the girl said, and Devon became attentive. "Can you not put me in a high position? I want to be like the new hires?" she asked him, but Devon wasn't really into that idea.

"But I really want you here with me," Devon said sadly, but Seraphina just messed up his hair.

"What are you talking about, Devon! We’re already living together, and I haven’t even answered you yet, but we still sleep next to each other," Seraphina said seriously, while Devon couldn’t help but laugh at her words.

It’s true that she hasn’t given him an answer yet, but they do sleep togeether.

Devon didn’t care what his family thought about it. All he knew was that he liked Seraphina. Just thinking about possibly separating from her made his inner demon come out.

Then Seraphina tapped his arm. She had been out of it since she was in a meeting because of the girl she was with now.

"Just agree already, Devon," Seraphina pleaded, and he nodded at her. "Alright, but let’s eat lunch together," Devon replied.

"I promise! But let’s keep it a secret that we know each other, okay?" Seraphina said.

"Why don’t you want to?" he asked, puzzled.

"Well! I don’t want them to find out that their boss is courting me, right?" Devon chuckled because he thought Seraphina was just so cute, especially with what she was saying.

"Alright, I’ll take care of it tomorrow, so don’t worry," Devon said, and Seraphina was really happy because she wouldn’t be bored at home.

Even though she wasn’t really supposed to work, she would still meet people. There are so many staff at the Donovan hacienda, and she could help out anytime she wanted.

The following day, Seraphina had no idea what she was going to put on. Carol Weyn, who had been a helper for the Donovan family for over a year, had prepared a lot for her. Carol was only two years older than Seraphina. That's why Devon chose this for his angel. The demon didn't want anyone else to be with his angel, unless he is the man.

"Carol? What am I actually supposed to wear?" Seraphina asked, having already changed outfits multiple times while Carol quietly laughed at her.

"Lady Era, everything looks great on you," Carol said politely, but she couldn't help but chuckle because Seraphina really acted like a little girl.

They were all pretty much the same, so she quickly picked the color peach dress. The outfit made her look like a wealthy vibe. Especially with that angelic face and beautiful hair, anyone would think she was rich.

"You look so lovely, Lady Era," Carol praised while gazing at the Seraphina, who was undeniably gorgeous. "Really? Thanks," Seraphina responded, even though it seemed like she didn't really notice. Seraphina seemed completely unaware of her surroundings.

She didn't even know how to take care of herself or just put on some lipstick. Seraphina immediately took the bag that Devon had given her and put on the high heels that Carol had handed her. What Seraphina didn't know, the bag she was holding was worth a million, and the clothes she was wearing were worth thousands of dollars.

She happily came down and was greeted by the maids. Everyone are truly amazed by the beauty of the young lady and they all admitted that Venus was the first person they admired for her beauty. Now, they couldn't believe that Seraphina was even more beautiful, especially now that she was all dolled up.

While Devon was quietly waiting, he could barely keep his eyes closed. To him, Seraphina looked like an angel in a place full of demons, and anyone who looked at her would surely fall for her.

"I'm done!" Seraphina joyfully exclaimed to Devon, twirling around. Now, Seraphina was dressed for work and wasn't wearing Devon's clothes. Still, Devon noticed that no matter what his angel wore, it always suited her perfectly.

"Alright, let’s go," Devon said as they hopped into his fancy car heading to Donovan Industry. Devon Donovan is the CEO of the company, and Finn already knew what to expect before they even arrived. He found out yesterday what his boss wanted to happen. Finn quickly signed off on someone he knew would be a good fit to sit next to Seraphina. He was sure that if his angel got into trouble, Devon will kill him for sure.

Just thinking about what could happen to her made Finn feel like he was losing his breath from fear. So, while he was waiting in the parking lot, he kept praying and wish that no one would see them and find out about Seraphina and her relationship to their boss. It will make a huge problem for them. He's sure that once Devon's employees find out about this, even though they're super disciplined, it’s going to leak out.

Following that, reporters will show up because why would they miss out on such a scandal? They will write in the article that the ruthless mafia king and cold CEO of Donovan Industry is in love?

"Boss and Lady Era, good morning," Finn greeted as Seraphina stepped out of Devon's car, nearly dropping his jaw. He never expected her to look like the vice president of Donovan Industry. The dress really suited her, and he couldn’t believe that an angel could lie. Just to cover up that she and his boss weren’t in a relationship.

"Good morning, Finn," Seraphina cheerfully greeted, and Devon was just as happy to see her angel smiling. If not, he would be ready to do anything to bring back her smiles.

"Boss, I’ll take care of Lady Era," Finn said, while Seraphina just waved at Devon.

"Take care," Seraphina softly said as she and Finn stepped into the elevator heading to the 10th floor.

"I’m really sorry, but I can’t call you Lady Era, when there are so many people around," Finn apologized, knowing others would wonder why he still called her Lady Era.

"I understand, Finn, so don’t worry about it," the young lady replied, and the doors opened to reveal the employees sitting at their desks.

As soon as Seraphina stepped through the glass door, their jaw nearly dropped at the beauty of the Seraphina. Finn was no longer surprised. It was clear that anyone would be captivated by his boss's future wife.

"Seraphina, meet Hailey Buen, who will be sitting next to you and keeping you company," Finn said, and even Hailey was stunned by Seraphina's beauty.

She was aware that the secretary of their boss had entrusted him with something important. She never imagined that this woman would be so gorgeous and look like an angel. So, she found himself mesmerized, just nodding at everything Finn was saying, even though he doesn't really understand anything. Once Finn left, Seraphina immediately sat next to her and introduced herself.

"Seraphina Laurier," Seraphina said with a bright smile, which took Hailey by surprise. Her beauty seemed to doubled even more when Hailey noticed that Seraphina had her hand out to her. She quickly took her hand for a shake. Until a loud voice was heard from behind them. Everyone became alert and stopped looking at Seraphina, turning their attention to what they needed to do.

"Work! Work! Work!" a woman shouted named Melissa Cortes, the supervisor of their department.

She was feared by the employees on this floor because not only did she hold a high position, but she also acted like she was someone important. Many were annoyed by her, especially the other female employees, because she often went overboard with her lectures or would belittle some of them. When she glanced at Seraphina, her irritation only grew. She noticed how beautiful the young woman was and that she was the only one wearing something different. All the other women here were dressed in skirts and polos. While she was wearing a peach dress, she couldn't figure out how someone like this got in here. The Donovan Industry is super strict about everything, yet this girl is just wearing what she wants.

Melissa immediately approached her to scold her because this kind of thing isn't acceptable. "How did someone like you get into a company that doesn't allow improper uniforms?" she asked sharply, and Seraphina looked at her, recalling some reminders from Finn Lucas.

"Ma'am, I did write a letter, and Sir Finn said that the boss approved of me wearing this kind of uniform every day," Seraphina explained, and everyone looked at her with doubt.

"Impossible! You're definitely lying!" she shouted, and Hailey quickly stood up to defend Seraphina.

"Ma'am Melissa, I'm the one Sir Finn told to speak up, and what Seraphina is saying is true," Hailey defended Seraphina, and you could see Melissa's face getting even angrier after hearing that. Melissa turned around and went back to their spot out of frustration.

That's why everyone around her can't help but stare at Seraphina, wondering who she is? How does the boss allow this woman to wear everything she likes? If they can't wear whatever outfit they want, it really made them even more upset. Especially when they approached Seraphina and noticed her bag. Anyone who looked at it, even if they didn't know much about bags, they could tell it was really expensive.

Seraphina's bag was stunning and matched her outfit perfectly. The bag is color white and absolutely gorgeous. Even Seraphina don't have the idea that the bag is worth of millions. Melissa hardly believe that Seraphina might be a gold digger. Not just because of her looks, but also the way she dress. Even she can't deny that the Seraphina is beautiful, so why does her irritation with herself keep growing?

Melissa know that she is the most beautiful one in the entire department. She does everything she can to enhance her beauty and match their boss, Devon. Melissa is super proud of herself because she's the only woman Devon trusts to prepare his milk. In Melissa's mind, getting closer to this guy is a must, even though she knows he's intimidating. After all, he's the mafia king, and she's doing everything possible to catch Devon's attention. He wants the demon fall for her, even the demon is already in love with an angel.
