The first group appeared. Six of them. Then three more. In total, at least nine. They were not amateurs like the first. These moved together, organized, almost in formation.

Lancelot advanced. It was like lightning. The growl he let out made the others instinctively retreat. He collided with the first middle wolf, and the sound of broken bones filled the air. The corridor became a battlefield again.

I ran too. The Beta came to me, eyes shining with excitement. I exchanged blows with him. Claws, punches, headbutts. Each impact reverberated through my body like a hammer. He was strong but had no discipline. And discipline was what kept me standing.

Behind me, the massacre. Lancelot tore apart anyone who came close. The ground was already a lake of blood, bodies piling up. But as strong as it was, I knew I was close to getting lost. The way it tore, how it took too many seconds on each victim. It was the wolf taking over.

Focused on Beta. He tried to grab me by the neck, but I ducked and

  • The Price of a Second Chance   101 – Farewell

When the car turned onto the street to Lancelot’s house, I felt my stomach turn. The children were silent in the back seat, each lost in their own fear, and I knew that bringing them here was not the best choice. But I needed to get my things.Since we left the shed, Casper had made no relevant comment about Lancelot, about me, or about anything. But I knew. He knew that silence. It was the preparation for the moment when he would say he was right from the beginning.Lancelot was beside me in the front seat. His body still trembled slightly, his makeshift clothes glued to dry blood. He did not look at me or the children. He kept his face turned to the window, fists clenched. I could feel the fight inside him, not against enemies now, but against his own shame. When the car stopped in front of the house, no one moved immediately. I took a deep breath, took off my belt, and turned to the triplets."I’ll just come in for a minute. You guys stay here with Daddy, okay?"Jared stared at me

  • The Price of a Second Chance   100 – They Don't Understand

The car followed in silence at first. The engine made a hum but did not muffle the sound of children’s sobs in the back seat. I watched them through the mirror, and my heart broke a little more with each look.Jimmy was with his chin on his knees, staring out the window, as if the world outside were easier to face than us inside. Jared bit his lip, trying to be strong, but his red eyes betrayed him. Jody would not stop holding on to my coat, even with the belt."They’re not coming back, are they, Mama?" she whispered, her voice so low it barely reached me."No, my love," I replied, forcing firmness that I didn’t feel. "They stayed behind, but we are safe now."Before the silence came again, Casper spoke without taking his eyes from the road:"You are with me now. Nothing will happen."It was the tone of Alpha. Authority is built into even the simplest words. And somehow it seemed to work. Jimmy looked at him in the rearview mirror and nodded, as if that promise was more convincing tha

The silence inside the car was almost unbearable. The engine turning off made the sound of children crying even clearer. I tried to hug them all at once, but it was impossible."It’s over." The words came out, but I didn’t believe them myself. It wasn’t over. I could still hear it, even from a distance. Growls. Screams. The impact of bodies colliding. I closed my eyes for a second, praying that it wouldn’t be the last thing I would hear from them."Will they come back?" Jimmy asked, the voice trembling. He wasn’t crying, but the fear was stamped."Go." The answer came out too fast, too automatic. I wanted to believe; I needed to feel. But the image of Lancelot covered in blood, ripping enemies like a beast out of control, and Casper fighting alone against dozens of medium wolves tormented me. They might not come back. They could die in there.Every time I looked at the road back to the shed, my heart beat faster, as if I expected to see shadows appearing at any moment. I pressed Jody

The metallic taste of blood was already in the air when I noticed that Naomi had left. I could smell her walking away with the children. It was right. But he and I did.Lancelot was no longer a man. What moved by my side was pure instinct, rearranged bones, muscles throbbing under the fur-covered skin. He tore, bit, and pulled without thinking. I, unlike him, had to think about every move. Strategy. Precision. Because an Alpha cannot afford to lose control. Two medium wolves moved forward together. I blocked the first one with my forearm, turned his body, and broke his jaw with a dry punch. The second tried to grab me by the back, but Lancelot crossed the corridor like a bolt of lightning, the growl so deep that it made the walls vibrate. In one jump, he knocked the enemy to the ground and opened his chest as if it were nothing. The scream lasted for a short time."Control yourself," I murmured, even though he couldn’t hear me. Maybe he didn’t want to.Three more came running. One of

We ran. The sound of our steps in the wet earth was mixed with the crying of children and the distant echo of the struggle in the shed. The cold of the morning cut my face, but I barely felt it. What mattered was to keep going.Jimmy shot in front, eyes wide, trying to be strong. Jared tripped but wouldn’t let go of my hand. Jody was strapped to my arm, sobbing so loud it felt like her heart was going to explode."Some more, love. Just a little more," I repeated, not knowing if I was trying to convince them or myself.Lancelot’s car was hidden behind a row of trees, about a hundred meters away. Each meter seemed like a kilometer. Every second, an eternity. At any moment, I expected to hear wolves behind us, but the only sound that came was the battle. When we finally reached the car, my hands trembled so much that I almost dropped the key. "Come in, quick!" I ordered. Jimmy and Jared jumped in, pulling Jody along. I closed the door and ran to the steering wheel. The engine roared, but
