Daphne's POV

(The next morning)

The sound of tiny feet padding across the marble floor pulled me out of my thoughts.

I looked up just in time to see the twins rushing toward me, arms outstretched, their pigtails bouncing as they giggled with uncontainable excitement. Both girls were dressed in matching yellow sundresses, their curls tied up with pink ribbons. They looked like a burst of sunshine in human form.

“Mommy!” Dahlia squealed first, throwing her arms around my waist.

Delilah wasn’t far behind, wrapping her little hands around my arm and pressing her cheek into my side. “We missed you!”

I froze for a second. They weren’t really mine—technically. But ever since I stepped into this role, something about these girls had burrowed deep inside me. Their love didn’t feel fake. It felt pure. Unfiltered. Healing.

And for the first time since I came back home from that cold, dark nightmare, I smiled. Really smiled.

“I missed you both too,” I said, kneeling so I could hug them properly.

Daphne’s POVI didn’t want to go.Even as I stared at myself in the mirror that morning, my heart hammering against my chest, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was all just… pointless. What was I going to say to a stranger? That I was kidnapped, drugged, and almost drowned? That I was pretending to be someone I wasn’t? That I was falling for a man who didn’t even belong to me?There was no neat way to package my mess.Still, I stood in front of my wardrobe, hands trembling slightly as I reached for a soft beige sweater and jeans. Nothing too flashy. Just… safe. Something that wouldn’t attract attention. There was a knock on my door.“Come in,” I said quietly. It was Brittany. Her eyes lit up with warmth the moment she stepped in, but there was a tenderness behind them too. A knowing sadness. Like she had been holding her breath around me for days.“You look lovely,” she said with a smile, her voice soft.“Thanks,” I whispered, trying to force a smile. She came closer, brushing her

  • The Twin's Secret: A Billionaire's Tempting Proposal   Chapter 76: Tracking Evelyn

Oliver's POV The storm outside had nothing on the one still brewing inside me.Even though it had been two days since I pulled Daphne out of that icy river, I couldn’t erase the look on her face—that hollow, betrayed silence—as if she had drowned in more than just water. And the worst part? I was the one who let it happen. I failed to protect her. And she knew it.Now, she barely said a word to me.She walked through the house like a ghost, answering Brittany’s kindness with forced smiles, and giving me nothing but silence and sidelong glances filled with so much pain, I felt physically sick. Every time I tried to approach her, it was like talking to someone trapped behind glass. Present… but unreachable.I had to do something. Anything. So I turned my attention to Evelyn.I made the call to one of my personal operatives—Nico, a man I kept on standby for matters that couldn't afford to follow the law. His voice was calm, efficient. No questions asked.“Find her,” I said coldly. “Evel

  • The Twin's Secret: A Billionaire's Tempting Proposal   Chapter 75: What have I done?

Oliver's POV The house was too quiet. Not the comforting kind of silence that came after a long day—but the heavy, suffocating kind that wrapped itself around my throat like guilt. Every room I passed seemed colder. Daphne hadn’t said a word to me since we got home. Not a glance. Not a sigh. Nothing.I had followed her out of duty at first. I thought maybe she needed someone to lean on. But when we got home and Brittany greeted her, she gave the smallest smile and let herself be led to her room without a second thought. I followed, standing just at her door, watching her, hoping she’d say something—anything. But she looked at me with those tired, wounded eyes and said quietly, "Please. I want to be alone."I nodded. What else could I do?I turned and left her room, every step away from her feeling like I was walking through quicksand. I should have said something. Apologized. Tried again. But I was a coward, wrapped in shame and afraid of how deeply I’d failed her.---I couldn’t sit

Daphne's POV The silence after Evelyn left was deafening. It filled every crack in the concrete room, pressing down on my chest like a weight. My ears rang with the echo of her voice, mocking, poisonous, victorious."Oliver is mine.""You're nothing but a stand-in."Those words kept stabbing me like cold daggers, over and over, each one dragging my heart deeper into the pit of despair. She showed me pictures. I saw them. Her body tangled against his in dimly lit hotel rooms, Oliver’s face relaxed and familiar—kissing her, holding her. There was one of her straddling him in bed, his hand brushing her cheek like she meant something to him. She was in lingerie. In some, she was half-naked. And the look in his eyes… wasn’t distant. It was focused. Like she was everything.I couldn’t stop the sob that broke from my chest. He said he was done with her. He said he cared. That what we had—what we shared—was real. But the man in those photos didn’t look like someone who had let go. He looked.

  • The Twin's Secret: A Billionaire's Tempting Proposal   Chapter 73: Home but not whole

Daphne's POV I sat in the back seat of the car, my face turned toward the window, watching the world blur by in silence. Trees swayed gently in the summer breeze, flowers bloomed along the roadside, and the sun glowed warm over everything. But inside me, there was nothing. No warmth. No sound. Just the weight of my own breath and the echo of screams that still lived in my mind.Oliver had tried to speak to me at the hospital. He’d tried again as we walked out of the ward and into the parking lot. I didn't respond. What was there to say? I was tired—of pain, of pretending, of trying to make sense of a world that had turned me into someone I barely recognized. When we arrived at the house, Brittany was already outside waiting. The moment she caught sight of me, she rushed forward, her expression filled with relief and worry all at once. “Oh my goodness, Mrs. Daisy! Thank God you're okay,” she said, reaching out carefully, like I was made of glass.I offered her the softest smile I coul
