Chapter 8: Bankrupt

"Are your parents home?" she asked and Ruth looked in the direction of her parent's room and back at the woman.

"Yes, I mean no," replied Ruth

"Young lady, which is it, yes or no?" Mrs Hayford asked looking at her above her spectacles.

"They are at home but can't come to the door right now," Ruth replied honestly

"Why?" she asked

"My parents were both involved in an accident," she said lowering her head

"Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that but unfortunately that doesn't pay me my rent," she replied

"I know, my parents are not well. We will make payment as soon as my dad can access his account," Ruth assured
