Chapter Four

The girl was staring at me wide eyed. I gave her a quick look over and pulled her to me to give her a hug. The poor girl was crying. She was definitely an omega because the moment I wrapped my arms around her , I became calm and relaxed. “Thank you for helping me. I’m Kierra and just started here today.” “It’s nice to meet you Kierra my name is Ella. Karen is the school bully so just stay out of her way. Do you have your schedule? I can help you find your classes.” After looking at her schedule we realized we had all the same classes. It was nice to have a friend. Of course when I got home that day I was punished by Alpha Ralph. I know he broke a rib that day but it was worth it. I wouldn’t change a thing. From that day forward we was glued to the hip. We always went to the library to study. We even skipped a grade. We were best friends and I always looked out for her.

As I got older the punishments got worse. It would be a matter of time before they killed me. But I will stay strong and wait until I turned 18. I would leave and never come back. Hopefully I could go to Kierra’s pack. She was teaching me how to defend myself. I was getting stronger but I acted weak. The Red Blood Pack could never know or I wouldn’t make it out of here.

It had been a long 9 years in this pack but my 17th birthday was this Friday. Kierra and I would graduate high school this year. And come summer I would be leaving this pack for good. Over the summers Kierra would always ask me to come to her pack but I couldn’t. Being Red Blood Packs slave meant I was only allowed the privilege of going to school. I always had to make up excuses but told her when I turned 18 I would love to come stay. She never asked about the bruises or the scar on my cheek. I was thankful because I would never tell her. I was ashamed for being weak. She always trained me harder whenever I came back to school after being out for a few days. I know she had suspicions of what was really going on but she never said a word. She would find her mate in a year and she wouldn’t have time to worry about me. I wanted to be happy for my best friend but I was jealous. She had the perfect parents, the extremely protective brothers and her pack loved her. I would miss her terribly but this was life. Every wolf longed for their mate. When they turned 18 they got their wolves. They were also able to find their mate. It’s what we humans call love at first sight. I always thought of it as romantic. It’s unusual but sometimes the human part will reject their mate. It’s said to be extremely painful. Like a knife in the heart. The moon goddess sees this as an insult to her. Sometimes the moon goddess will bless them with a second chance mate but again it’s rare to be rejected.

Mike had been watching me a lot this summer when he turned 18. Honestly it was creepy. I hope Kierra isn’t his mate. A wolf who is 18 years old can find their mate even if that wolf is under age. The under age wolf wouldn’t know until they turned 18. Kierra is a few months younger than me so she wouldn’t feel the bond. Whoever Mikes mate is I feel sorry for them. He’s a playboy. He has been with a lot of the girls here in school even in the last two years that he’s been with Karen. Karen says she will be the future Luna. That when she turns 18 she will finally be able to claim the Luna title. I was happy when Mike was sent to Alpha training school. He would be learning how to become an Alpha and also finishing high school there. They always come home before their 18th birthday so they can shift at home and celebrate with their soon to be packs. It’s a tradition from what I have read and heard. When he came back he had followed me around the pack but not to where he could be seen. I knew it was him from his smell. It’s a musky male with a hint of pine smell. It wasn’t bad but it still made me scrunch up my nose. I would have Austin walk with me sometimes. He never seemed to be able to smell Mike though. At least he never came to the school anymore. Jacob and Damien had went to Beta and Gamma school to learn their future roles. So the future leader group didn’t go to the high school. It was nice only having to watch my back with Karen.

Friday my birthday and the last day of school before summer break was in two days. That meant I only had one more summer before I could be free. Kierra said she really wished I would come to her pack to celebrate but I couldn’t. She knows that but she keeps asking anyways. She always brings me something for my birthday. I always hide it in my backpack until I get home to give it to Austin to put with my necklace I got on my 8th birthday. I don’t celebrate my birthdays anymore but Kierra didn’t want to hear it.

Today was my birthday and I really wanted to stay home. I had a really bad feeling but I wouldn’t see Kierra until after the summer so I got up and got ready for school. Austin as always had my favorite breakfast pancakes with strawberries and chocolate chips with whipped cream. After breakfast I washed my dishes and started the walk to school. I was hit with the musky male and pine scent before he stepped out in front of me. This can’t be good.
