The Werewolf King's Driver

Mira’s POV

Waking up in someone else's apartment isn’t new to me, it’s part of what I call a job. I don’t have anything, just myself. I never really had a choice. People look at me with disgust, say things behind my back... but their words can’t feed me. So I don’t care. I need to survive.

I stood up, fixed myself, and got dressed before stepping out of the room. I found the man I had just slept with sitting on the couch, drinking his coffee while focused on his laptop. No time for chit-chat. I went straight to the point. I asked for the money so I could leave.

He stood up without even sparing me a glance. Didn’t bother me at all. I even love it.  I just waited while he walked off. I checked the time. 3 AM. I couldn’t stay long either, I didn’t want to be caught by his girlfriend. LOL.

“Here,” he finally said, handing me the money without any emotion. “I know you know I have a girlfriend. Don’t even think about using this to get more out of me—”

“I don’t care about your personal life, bro,” I cut him off, rolling my eyes as I snatched the money from his hand.

“And just so you know,” I added, cold and sharp, “you’re not even good in bed for me to bother stealing you from your girlfriend.”

I didn’t wait for his response. I grabbed my things and walked out of his place.

Still dizzy from all the alcohol, I held my head while walking faster, hoping I could make it to the parking lot and finally get some sleep.

“Oh, come on…” I punched the steering wheel when my car wouldn’t start. “I just want to go home, please…”

I tried again and again but it didn't work . I already wanted to throw this car in the trash, but how? I didn’t have the money to buy a new one and I need this. 

I was about to step out and ask someone to push it because yeah, that’s how it usually works. But I was shocked when someone suddenly got in the passenger seat. 

A man I didn’t recognize.

He was wearing a plain black shirt that hugged his broad chest, black pants, and a cap that shadowed most of his face.

“Who the hell are you?!” I yelled, grabbing the nearest thing I could find, a comb, like that would actually protect me. “What do you want? I don’t have any money, just so you know! I’m broke too!”

Duh, in his looks he has more than what I have. 

“Drive,” he said.

And for the first time, our eyes met. I’ve seen a lot of men in my life but his eyes? They were different. Like they weren’t just asking me to do something. They were commanding me. And for some reason, I couldn’t fight it. Before I could curse him out, he pulled out a wad of cash from his wallet and held it up.

Just like that, I went quiet.

It was a lot of money. Way more than usual. 

“Drive. Take me to your place. I’ll pay you more than that.” He said. 

That makes sense now. So he’s one of those. A man who pays for pleasure. I rolled my eyes and put down the comb. At this time I was calm. He could’ve just said instead of just stepping into my car like some kind of boss.

But I can't deny that was my weakness. Money.

And yeah, I was tired but I just said it was my weakness so I can't say no. And if you ask me why I am not afraid? Because I wasn’t afraid of men anymore.

I am more than afraid of being broke.

And with that I started the engine again but then I remembered my car was really a piece of crap. I glanced at him, I didn’t even say a word but he got it.

“Bullshit,” he muttered, stepping out of the car. “Throw this trash away after this.”

He walked to the back. I blinked. Was he… in heat or something? He wants it already? 

I heard him pushing the back of the car so I started my car to make it work. Like always, it worked. I stopped so he could get back in, and without a word, I drove us to my apartment.

It was a fast ride. I love driving during this time, it doesn't have traffic and it is peaceful. He didn’t say anything but I saw it in his face. He was impressed with how I drove. 

When we got to my place, I noticed how his eyes scanned every corner of my apartment. He walked around slowly, even stepping toward the window to peek outside.

“Don’t worry,” I said, slipping off my heels and walking closer to him. “It’s soundproof. Is that what you’re worried about?”

He didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he took off his cap, finally revealing his full face.

Without a second thought, I began taking off my clothes, top to bottom. I was exhausted. I just wanted to get this over with, rest and sleep. The sooner this ends, the better.

But instead of jumping in, his brows furrowed and he looked away.

“What are you doing, woman?” he asked, sounding more confused than anything.

I paused, equally confused. “This is what you want, right? You said to take you to my place in exchange for money.”

He looked stunned. Almost… offended? “Yes but not for the… p*ssy,” he said, awkwardly avoiding my gaze. “I needed a place to hide.”

My face flushed red. And for the first time in a long time, I felt embarrassed because of a man. I quickly picked up my clothes from the floor and put them back on. That was when he looked at me again calmly, quietly.

I stepped back, suddenly unsure. If he was about to confess something crazy, I needed space for him from running away. The fear crept back in.

“What do you mean? Hide from who?” I asked cautiously.

“To my rivals,” he said, settling onto the couch like someone used to carrying heavy secrets. “They’re here to kill me.”

I stared at him, stunned. “Kill you? Why?”

“He wants my throne.” He let out a heavy sigh, the kind that comes with old pain. “He already took my life once. But that still wasn’t enough. He wants me completely gone. But I’m not giving up that easily. I’ll take back what’s mine, what my father worked hard for..”

“Wait, wait…” I raised a hand to stop him. “Throne? You’re a king? King of what? Are you drunk or just insane?”

This was too much. I can't deal with crazy things right now. He stood up slowly. And then his next move nearly made me drop the vase I was holding.

Right before my eyes, his body shifted, his muscles stretching, bones cracking, his form twisting until thick fur covered his skin. A powerful snarl rumbled from his chest.

He had transformed. A werewolf.

And then he spoke, his voice low and commanding.

“I am the King of the Moonbound Werewolves. Eryx Bloodban.” he said. 

And that’s when everything went black.
