I stared at Edward Fox’s name on my screen for nearly five minutes before finally agreeing to meet him.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. In my memory, Edward was a quiet college student with cheap glasses and an oversized jacket—the brilliant, impoverished boy who always carried a stack of heavy textbooks. My father had funded his scholarship because he was so impressive.

I remembered passing him in the university hallways. A polite nod. A brief exchange of pleasantries. Nothing more.

Certainly nothing that explained why my husband looked like he wanted to murder him, or why Edward was texting me as if we were close.

The restaurant was impeccably elegant, perched on the top floor of a skyscraper—the kind of place twenty-year-old me would only see in movies. I sat near the window, nervously sipping my water.

Five minutes later, a man stepped through the entrance.

I almost didn't recognize him. He was tall, impeccably dressed in an expensive dark suit, and carried himself with effortless confidence.

The moment his gaze landed on me, his eyes softened with a warm, intimate smile. He walked straight to my table, leaned down before I could even react, and kissed my cheek.

"I missed you, sweetheart," he murmured softly.

My entire body went rigid. Sweetheart?!

I pushed myself back in my chair, staring at him in sheer shock. "Edward?"

He pulled out the chair opposite me and chuckled. "What’s with that reaction? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost."

"You... you look different," I managed to say, my brain frantically trying to process why a guy I barely remembered just kissed my cheek and called me sweetheart.

"Ten years will do that," Edward smiled, resting his chin on his hand as he looked at me with deep, romantic intensity. "You look radiant today, Abigail. Though... you seem a bit distant. Still angry about our last fight?"

Fight? What fight?!

I cleared my throat, feeling incredibly awkward. "Edward, look... I asked to meet because I need to ask you something important."

"Anything for you, darling," he replied smoothly, leaning forward and reaching out to cover my hand with his.

I flinched, pulling my hand away to pick up my glass of water just to have something to hold. Edward frowned slightly at my reaction, but his charming smile quickly returned.

"Did I... did I give you Hart Enterprises?" I asked directly.

Edward paused, studying my face with a faint, knowing smile. "You didn't just give it to me, Abigail. We built our vision together. You trusted me with your family’s legacy because you knew I was the only one who could handle it."

"And... my father?"

Edward’s expression softened into one of gentle sympathy—a look that felt suspiciously rehearsed. "Your father is stuck. But you chose me. You chose us."

Us?! My head was spinning. Was I actually in a romantic relationship with this guy?!

"Edward... were we... a couple?" I squeaked out, feeling mortified.

Edward laughed softly, a low, melodic sound. "Are you playing hard to get today? Or is this your way of teasing me after ignoring my calls?" He reached across the table again, his fingers lightly brushing my wrist. "You came to me years ago, Abigail. You told me you loved me, remember?"

Before I could digest the horrifying thought of twenty-year-old me falling for my father's scholarship student, a shadow fell over our table.

The air in the restaurant instantly plunged below freezing.

"Take your hands off my wife."

A dangerously calm, low voice echoed above us.

I gasped and turned around. Liam was standing right behind my chair, clad in his sharp work suit, looking like an absolute Greek god of wrath. His jaw was clenched so hard I thought his teeth might shatter, and his eyes were locked on Edward’s hand with lethal precision.

Edward didn't flinch. Instead, he slowly pulled his hand back and smiled smoothly. "Ah, Mr. Montgomery. Still playing the possessive husband?"

"I don't play," Liam said coldly.

I blinked, looking back and forth between the two gorgeous men towering over my lunch table. The drama was so intense it felt like I was sitting in the middle of a prime-time soap opera.

Liam turned his gaze down to me, his eyes burning. "We're leaving. Now."

"Wait, I haven't even ordered food yet!" I blurted out without thinking.

Liam’s brows twitched. "Abigail."

"What? I'm hungry!"

Edward let out a light laugh, highly amused by the exchange. "Let her eat, Liam. Or does your jealousy extend to her lunch menu as well?"

Liam’s eyes narrowed into slits. He stepped closer, grabbed the back of my chair, and pulled it back slightly—effectively sweeping me away from Edward's side.

"Get up, Abigail," Liam ordered, his tone leaving zero room for debate.

I crossed my arms and looked up at him, entirely ignoring the life-or-death tension in the air. "You're ordering me around again. What’s wrong with you?"

Liam froze. His imposing, menacing aura instantly cracked for a fraction of a second. "What?"

"You!" I pointed a finger at him, a sudden urge to tease him bubbling up. "You followed me here!"

"I did not follow you," Liam snapped, his cheeks suddenly taking on a very faint, almost imperceptible shade of pink. "I had a meeting nearby."

"On the top floor of a Italian restaurant?" I raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Riiight."

Edward cleared his throat quietly, watching us with a mix of fascination and annoyance. "Should I leave you two to resolve your marital spat?"

"No," Liam barked.

"Yes, please," I said at the exact same time.

Edward stood up, picking up his suit jacket. He flashed me one last, lingering, overly dramatic smile. "Call me later, sweetheart. When you're free from your leash."

"Don't call her that," Liam growled, stepping forward as if he was about to punch him right there.

Edward simply gave a smug smirk and walked away, disappearing into the elevator.

Once he was gone, the heavy silence settled between Liam and me. Liam stood there, breathing heavily, still looking thoroughly offended.

I grabbed my purse, stood up, and patted his arm playfully. "Relax, big guy. I didn't even like his vibe anyway."

Liam stared at me, completely thrown off by my casual attitude. "You... what?"

"He's too slick. And he called me sweetheart like five times, it was weird," I muttered, walking past him toward the exit.

Liam stood frozen for a second before turning around to catch up with my fast pace. "Abigail, wait."

  • The Wife He Loves to Hate   CHAPTER 110: THE THINGS MOMMY DOESN’T KNOW

The first thing I learned about being a mother was that mornings could be surprisingly cruel. Not because Charlotte was difficult. She wasn’t. The problem was that everyone else seemed to know exactly what they were doing, while I stood in the middle of her bedroom holding a hairbrush like it was a foreign object. “Mommy, that’s not the one.” I looked down at the brush in my hand, then at the three others scattered across Charlotte’s dressing table. “Then which one is it, sweetheart?” “The purple one.” I picked up the purple brush. Charlotte shook her head. “Not that purple one. The other purple one.” I stared at the brushes. There were two purple brushes. Of course there were. “Right,” I murmured. “The other purple one.” From the doorway, Liam made a suspicious sound that might have been a cough if I were feeling generous. I turned my head slowly. “Are you laughing at me?” “Not at all.” “Your face says otherwise.” “My face is innocent.” “Your face is a terrible l

“Mommy?” Charlotte’s voice came from the staircase. I lifted my head just as she appeared, wearing pink pajamas and carrying a stuffed rabbit by one ear. “Hello, sweetheart.” She hurried toward us, climbing onto the sofa beside me. Liam moved his laptop out of her way, making room for her small body between us. “Did you finish your work?” I asked. “Almost.” “Almost?” “I still have to read one page for school.” “And have you brushed your teeth?” Charlotte’s eyes widened. I narrowed mine. “Charlotte Montgomery.” “I’m going!” she squeaked, scrambling off the sofa. Liam chuckled as she ran toward the bathroom. “You sound like a mother already.” I looked at him. “Was that supposed to be a compliment?” “The highest one I can offer.” I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop smiling. A few minutes later, Charlotte returned with her toothbrush tucked into the pocket of her pajama top, clearly proud of herself. “Teeth brushed,” she announced. “Excellent. Now, what do you nee

Liam was in the living room when I arrived home. His tie had been loosened, and his laptop rested open on the coffee table. He looked up when I entered, his gaze moving briefly over my face.“Hey, Abby.”“Hey.”He closed his laptop.“Long day?”“A little.”He studied me for another moment, but he didn’t ask where I’d been or why I looked distracted. That was something I was beginning to appreciate about him. He could be curious without making his curiosity feel like a demand.I put my bag down and sat beside him.“I saw Finn.”Liam’s expression grew still.“Today?”“Outside the foundation building.”He nodded once. “All right.”I turned toward him.“That’s all you’re going to say?”“What would you like me to say?”“I don’t know. Something.”A faint smile touched his mouth.“Do you want me to ask what he said?”“Maybe.”“Then what did he say?”I leaned back against the sofa.“He apologized. He admitted that he made me feel as though I wasn’t enough. He said he had tried to find me afte

  • The Wife He Loves to Hate   CHAPTER 107: THE APOLOGY I NEVER ASKED FOR

I thought the past would feel heavier when it finally stood in front of me.I thought seeing Finn Wilson again would bring back the girl I had been at twenty—the girl who had loved him, trusted him, and believed that the future was something she could plan with him.Instead, when I saw him standing outside the foundation building that afternoon, all I felt was exhaustion. Not anger. Not longing.Just exhaustion.“Abigail.”Finn straightened when he noticed me. He looked as though he had been waiting for quite some time, his hands buried in the pockets of his wool coat.I stopped a few feet away from him.“I told you I didn’t want any more personal messages.”“I know.” His gaze dropped briefly. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have sent you that photograph.”“You shouldn’t have sent it.”“I know.”I almost laughed at the repetition. There had been a time when I would have searched his face for an explanation, desperate to understand why he had done something that hurt me.Now, I simply wanted h

  • The Wife He Loves to Hate   Chapter 106: A Future That Belongs to Us

Liam was waiting for me when I stepped into the penthouse that evening. He stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, his tailored suit jacket draped casually over one arm as he reviewed something on his phone. The exact second he heard my heels click against the marble foyer, he slipped the device into his pocket and turned to face me. “How was your afternoon at the office, Abby?” he asked, his deep voice instantly grounding my senses. “Productive,” I replied, stepping out of my heels. “Julian brought the revised structural plans, offered a sincere apology for his sister's outburst, and shared a few more historical details regarding Finn.” Liam’s sharp jaw subtly tightened at the mention of the name. “More details?” I walked into the living room, smoothing down my skirt. “Apparently, Finn spent years actively searching for news about my whereabouts after I vanished. Stella lived through every single day of that search.” Liam remained motionless, analyzing my fa

  • The Wife He Loves to Hate   Chapter 105: I WAS NEVER YOURS

My mind kept circling back to Stella Bennett. For a decade, she had lived under the shadow of a phantom. She had tried to build a relationship with Finn while constantly competing against a lingering memory she could never erase. I could understand the quiet, insidious torture of that existence. I could feel the tragedy of her situation. But understanding her pain did not mean I was obligated to accept her blame. I hadn't forced Finn to measure her against me. I hadn't asked him to search for news about my whereabouts while holding her in his arms, nor had I encouraged him to send me private photographs from a dead childhood romance. Those were his choices. Cold, selfish, and cowardly choices. Stella had made her own choices, too. She had chosen to step into a relationship built on broken trust, hoping she could change a man who was incapable of giving her his full heart. A soft, polite knock at the door broke my spiraling thoughts. “Come in,” I called out, clearing my throat.
