"Rowan."

The name seemed to drain the warmth from the room.

Kael stared at Aria.

"You're certain?"

Aria nodded.

"I felt the same influence in the patrol wolves. But Rowan's is different."

Finn immediately looked toward the doorway.

"Where is he?"

Kael's expression hardened.

"With the eastern patrol."

He turned toward the exit.

"Find him."

---

They found Rowan near the outer watchtower.

He was alone.

His back was turned toward the settlement.

The room remained silent. Kael still held his father's final note. Take them to the Moon Crown before he does. Lyra read it again. "Your father knew the Crown was important." Kael nodded. "Apparently." Aria folded her arms. "Then why didn't he tell Aurelia where it was?" Kael looked at the document. "Maybe he didn't know." Eren shook his head. "He did." Everyone turned toward him. Eren pointed to the bottom of the page. "Look at the mark." Kael examined it. A small symbol had been drawn beneath the sentence. Aria stepped closer. "I've seen that." "Where?" Lyra asked. "On Mother's old belongings." Eren's expression changed. "It's a location marker." Kael looked at him. "Where?" Eren hesitated. "An old sanctuary." Rovan, who had entered quietly, frowned. "Another temple?" "No." Eren shook his head. "Something older than that." Kael immediately looked irritated. "We are not chasing another ancient ruin." Eren almost smiled. "It's not a ruin." "Then w

The Shadow King was gone. But his words remained. The Master knows you're here. Kael stood at the mouth of the cavern, watching the darkness where the enemy had disappeared. Rovan approached him. "Should we pursue him?" "No." Rovan frowned. "Why?" "Because that's what he wants." Kael glanced back at Lyra. "He's given us information. That doesn't make him our ally." Rovan nodded. Behind them, Aria was helping several wolves who had weakened after the network was disrupted. Finn stood beside Eren. Neither brother spoke. The silence between them was different now. Less hostile. Still painful. Lyra noticed. "So," she said quietly, "that's the Shadow King." Kael turned toward her. "Yes." "He wasn't what I expected." "Neither was the truth." Lyra looked down. "About my mother." Kael stepped closer. "You don't have to figure everything out tonight." She looked at him. "I know." Then she smiled faintly. "But I want to." --- They returned to the settlement tw

The connection vanished as quickly as it appeared. Lyra stumbled. Kael caught her before she hit the ground. "Easy." She gripped his arm, breathing hard. "I felt him." Kael's expression hardened. "The Shadow King?" Lyra nodded. Aria was still staring upward. "It wasn't just a bond." Eren looked at her. "What was it?" "A channel." She swallowed. "Every bond in this place is connected to him." Rovan's expression darkened. "Then destroy the channel." Aria shook her head. "We can't." "Why?" "Because we don't know where it ends." Kael looked toward Eren. "You said the Shadow King operated from this territory." "Yes." "Then we're close." Eren's face tightened. "Closer than you think." A voice came from the darkness behind them. "Much closer." Everyone turned. The wolves parted. A lone figure stepped into the cavern. No army followed. No guards. No display of power. He simply walked forward. The Shadow King. Kael immediately shifted his stance. Lyra's

The stranger's words settled over the cavern. No one moved. Kael stood between him and Lyra, his wolf barely restrained beneath his skin. "Name yourself." The stranger smiled. "Still giving orders, Alpha?" Kael's eyes narrowed. "Name yourself." "Eamon." Eren went rigid. Finn noticed immediately. "You know him." Eren didn't answer. Eamon laughed softly. "Of course he knows me." He looked at the wolves around them. "He used to walk these halls." A murmur spread through the cavern. Finn turned toward his brother. "You were here?" Eren's jaw tightened. "Yes." "How long?" "Long enough." Finn stepped closer. "You knew these wolves?" "I knew some of them." "And you left them here." Eren's expression changed. "I tried to get them out." "But you didn't." "No." The word came quietly. Eren didn't defend himself. That somehow made Finn angrier. "You always have an explanation." "I don't." Eren looked directly at him. "I

Lyra stared at Caelan. The cavern had gone completely silent. Hundreds of wolves watched her. Some were curious. Some suspicious. Others looked almost afraid. Caelan touched the bond around his neck again. "Break it." Lyra didn't move. "I won't do that without your permission." His expression hardened. "I just gave it." "You're asking me to make a decision you may regret." Caelan gave a humorless laugh. "That's what freedom is, isn't it?" The words struck her. Lyra stepped closer. "Tell me why you want it gone." Caelan's jaw tightened. "Because I want to know who I am without it." For the first time, Lyra saw something beneath his anger. Fear. Not fear of dying. Fear of discovering that the person he had become wasn't entirely his own. Lyra raised her hand. Kael's eyes remained fixed on her. He didn't stop her. He trusted her. Her fingers hovered over the faint mark at Caelan's throat. The bond reacted immediately. Silver light flickered beneath his skin

  • The silver eyed omega   Chapter 79 : The Wolves Beneath the Mountain

The mountains grew steeper as they traveled north. Kael moved at the front of the group, his wolf senses stretched across the forest. Behind him came Rowan, Finn, Eren, Aria, Rovan, and Lyra. No one spoke much. They didn't need to. The farther they traveled, the quieter the forest became. Not unnaturally. Simply because fewer wolves lived this far north. By late afternoon, Eren stopped. Kael immediately turned. "What?" Eren pointed toward the mountains. "There." At first, Kael saw nothing. Then he caught it. A scent. Wolves. Hundreds of them. But beneath it was something else. Something cold. Artificial. The scent of supernatural bonds. Lyra's expression tightened. "I can feel them." Aria closed her eyes. "So can I." She pointed toward a narrow passage between two cliffs. "The bonds are coming from there." Kael nodded. "Then that's where we're going." The passage narrowed until only two wolves could walk side by side. Rov
