Star

It was small, cabin like, just one big room with four walls, and a bathroom off to the side - absolutely no complaints from me. I have a bed, a small kitchen set up and a dresser for the five pieces of clothing I happened to have in my bag, which thankfully they gave back after obviously searching through it. I was so wired that I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep, then there was a knock at my door before it opened up and a random girl walked in holding papers and a serious scowl on her face. “This is your contract, and these are some clothes from our donation pile.” She threw a bag down I didn’t notice she had and then walked out. Clearly I wasn’t making friends here but I do not care. I don’t need friends, I need information.

I picked up the contract immediately and looked it over. To summarize, it included a schedule that I couldn’t defer from or it would be seen as treason, I’d have some one always with me escorting me everywhere I go and if I am seen alone it will constitute as treason, and I am not to engage with anyone in the pack or it will be, you guessed it, treasonous. I’ve traded one cell for another it seemed, but I couldn’t exactly blame them. I’m some random girl claiming to be a turned wolf who is not an enemy, with no family or anyone to prove it. Well I guess I’m not exactly random if he finds me familiar, now I just need to remember where I know him from. I don’t even know his name, or anyone’s name for that matter.

I signed the contract and left it on the counter and went to the bathroom to wash up. The shower was heavenly, the hot water didn’t even burn my skin when I turned the handle all the way to the left. I stood there in the flow of water and steam for what felt like forever till it started to turn cold, then I stood there for even longer. I washed my hair and body quickly, there was even a pack of new razors which made me so happy to finally be able to shave. There was everything a girl could need for a 3 step skin care routine too- face wash, an exfoliating scrub and moisturizer. Good enough. The body lotion I had in my bag was thankfully still there along with my hair treatment. Bleached blonde hair needs to be cared for that much I knew when I was packing my bag quick. I shut down that thought fast before I could think back to my old life and my family. I changed into something to sleep in, a tank top and shorts from my bag. It’s humid and hot here in Florida, and this new body of mine runs even hotter. “It’s to help us survive in the cold,” she said, her voice stirring through my mind. “Hmmm, never would have guessed, yenno being a wolf and all,” I said sarcastically. “You couldn’t run forever Akira, we needed a pack.” She knows I’m still mad at her for leading me into another pack’s territory. I never wanted to go near another pack once we escaped the last one.

“This one will be different,” Star said. “You told me I could trust them and look what happened,” I replied. “I told you we could trust the couple, I didn’t know we couldn’t trust the Alpha until it was too late, I will take accountability for that mistake, but we made it out, you made it out, you survived and you will always survive, that is what you are Akira, a survivor. And I will always be here to guide you, to heal you, to make you stronger.” I wasn’t going to sleep tonight it was quite obvious with all her yapping and it was seriously starting to annoy me, “Why can you not give me the answers I need Star, you’re the wolf right? This is your department. Why do I need other ones to tell me who I am?” She huffed, probably annoyed with me as well because we’ve been over this a thousand times now. “We were turned, I’m as lost as you are, I just know what I am as sure as you knew you were human when you were living, and I know we run in packs, I’m drawn to them. The couple explained a lot that makes sense to us now, the way I can help you heal, enhance your senses and increase your strength, speed, agility, endurance, stamina-“, I cut her off, “Yeah yeah yeah, I know you’re the almighty, all powerful wolf gifted to me by the moon goddess or whatever blah blah, I get it Star, I’m nothing without you.” She huffs again, “Not what I meant, you are more intelligent and powerful than you know. You are the reason we got out of that cell and escaped that pack, I only helped.” I sighed, I can’t take myself back to that place, plus I needed to sleep in order to get up early for training tomorrow 6am sharp. “Okay Star Wars time to sleep, our new life starts tomorrow,” I closed my eyes and tried to force myself to sleep hoping the nightmares don’t come for one night.
