Unexpected Understandings

“How are you so calm and patient with me? And before you ask no I’m not reading your feelings, just your actions. And I’m also very observant,” I point out. He turns to look at me and we’re basically face to face but I’m still shorter and have to angle my head upwards to look at him. He stares for a moment, tracing my whole face with those deep eyes.

“You’re terrified and traumatized, and it’s completely valid. You’ve been through so much in such little time,” he turns away. He speaks after a long minute “I can remember my first shift and that shit was horrible. I was scared and it was incredibly painful, but I also was born into this. I had all the information needed not to mention a family, friends, and a pack all there to help me through everything, every step of the way. I can’t even begin to imagine what this whole experience has been like for you.” I’m stunned. That was not what I was expecting. “See he does care,” Star says, “Oh shut up!” I reply, except that was out loud and not just to Star.

The Alpha sat up on his elbows and looked at me. I snap up quickly. “No no no, I was saying that to her not you, her commentary was so not helpful right now,” I try to explain twisting to face him, talking fast and way too much with my hands. He just looks at me smiling then laughs in my face, “Tell me little wolf, what did she say?” He says teasingly. I roll my eyes, “Nothing you’ll ever hear,” I pause, then tilt my head. Maybe I can have fun with this Alpha. “Unlessssss” I drag it out, hoping he’ll take the bait. “Unless what?” His eye brow goes up in that way I’m starting to like and I smile. A real smile for what feels like the first time. He just stares and I shouldn’t have but I reach for his emotions and feel, holy shit, he’s attracted to me, I think that’s what this feeling is. I pull back and ask, “Unless you tell me your name.”

He smiles a boyish smile, one I’m also starting to like and looks down shaking his head. “Out of all things you could ask for Akira and my name is what you want to know?” I slowly lean in closer to him and he stops breathing for a moment. “Trust me, Alpha, I think knowing your name could prove useful for both of us.” I hold his gaze and his eyes grow completely black, and Star purrs.

She purred? “What the hell was that Star?” I ask confused, but still holding his gaze showing no signs of the conversation in my head. “They like us,” she says. “THEY?” I question. “His wolf likes us too, I can feel it.” She explains. Woah. “Does that mean he can feel us too?” She nods. Well damn. Being a wolf is wild. I blinked and moved back slowly. He clears his throat and gets up, walking towards the door. He stops before he opens and looks back at me, “I will help you Akira, I’m not afraid of you,” he turns but hesitates, then says, “and it’s Noah.” He leaves.
