#1

Eve’s POV:

"You'd better confess before I find it," Ryan demanded. " I know it's you who poisoned Cari. My nose won't lie. The scent of wolfbane leaked out from your room." he accused.

I fixed my eyes on his cold ones, "I haven't done anything wrong, Love, I'm your mate, please trust me!"

I can’t comprehend why my mate, of all people, didn’t trust me. We've been together since we were 18, bound by a mate connection. He swore that he would protect me for the rest of my life.

But now, he looked at me like I was a murderer.

“Search her room,” Ryan commanded with the Alpha tone.

As Ryan and his subordinates ruthlessly tore apart my room. I knew I was innocent of the grave accusations he hurled at me. No one believed me and it drove me crazy, even though I had proven my loyalty to them over the years.

They rummaged through my belongings with frustration and anger, tossing aside precious items as if they were worthless trash. But Ryan allowed it to happen.

Every item in that room held deep sentimental value, each one carefully chosen or lovingly gifted by Ryan —birthday presents, anniversary keepsakes, Valentine's Day gifts.

My heart grew heavier with each passing second as I witnessed the wreckage of a life I had so carefully built. Ryan's face was blank as they tore up the picture we had painted together on a dreary Saturday. As I watched him, I wondered if he ever cherished those shared moments.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I could no longer bear to watch. And then, during the chaos, they discovered a malevolent stalk of wolfbane within a box.  This mall jewelry box was a gift from our very first date from Ryan himself.

"So, not only did you poison Cari, but you dare to deceive me?" Ryan's voice thundered with fury.

He threw the box to the ground, smashing it into pieces.

"I... I'm not..." I began to protest, but he silenced me with a brutal punch against the wall.

"Do you comprehend that she's in a coma now because of this? She's lost her inner wolf," he growled, his anger blazing like wildfire.

He had me against the wall. The way he was looking at me made me fear that he was going to tear me apart.

"I didn't realize you were so vicious. You make me sick," he spat, his voice dripping with disgust.

Just then, the door swung open. Ryan's attention shifted to the newcomer. It was Cari's father, the old Gamma.

"You!" he bellowed. "You maimed my daughter."

My heart sank, his words weighing heavily upon me. I struggled to find my voice amidst the chaos.

"Please. I didn't give Cari any wolfbane. Why would I want to take her wolf?" I implored, my voice trembling.

"You were such an actress, Eve," he spat, his anger palpable. "You not only tried to kill my child but also manipulated our Alpha."

At that moment, I turned to Ryan, my gaze filled with desperation.

"I swore on our bond, Ryan," I whispered, tears welling up in my eyes. "I would never betray you or our pack."

"Don't let her get away with this!" Cari's father persisted. "You're not a real man or an Alpha if you let that slide just because she has a pretty face."

My heart pounded in my chest as I turned to look at Ryan, my eyes pleading for understanding. But his response was nothing like I expected. His normally warm eyes had turned icy, and his expression had hardened into one of steely resolve.

It was as if I were staring at a stranger, and his words, once filled with love, now cut through the tension like a blade.

"I banish you, Eve Melbert, from our pack and reject you as my mate."

The pain surged through me, ripping at my heart. I felt as though I had been struck by lightning. The shattered bond between us left a gaping void within me, and my wolf, once my unwavering companion, now whimpered and cowered, retreating into the depths of my being.

It was a devastating betrayal, and I struggled to comprehend how the man I had loved so deeply could become an embodiment of such heartless cruelty.

Cari's father grabbed my waist, his fingers digging into my skin as he forcefully dragged me toward the gate. I kicked and thrashed in every direction, desperately trying to break free from his grasp. Ryan's eyes bore into mine with disappointment. The man I loved now regarded me as the lowest scumbag.

The entire pack had gathered around, watching the scene unfold before them. Gamma, fueled by his anger, threw me forcefully to the ground, causing a sharp pain to shoot through my body. As I landed with a thud, a searing ache radiated from my stomach, and I let out a piercing scream of agony. Blood ran down my legs, staining the ground beneath me.

"You don't belong here anymore," Ryan's words hung in the air like a crushing weight. With a final dismissive glance, he turned his back on me, leaving me broken and shattered.

The pain became overwhelming. Darkness claimed me, and I slipped into unconsciousness.

***

I woke up in the hospital. Tubes and medical equipment surrounded me. Panic surged within me, and I frantically reached for the call button, my heart pounding in my chest.

A doctor entered the room. My anxiety reached its peak, and I couldn't wait for him to speak before bombarding him with questions.

"Why am I here?" I demanded, my tone sharp.

The doctor took a deep breath, his eyes meeting mine.

"Miss Eve, how are you feeling?" he asked.

I scoffed at his attempt to divert the conversation, my frustration mounting.

"Feeling fucking amazing as my life falls apart. Now, answer the question," I retorted bitterly.

The doctor's expression turned somber, and he delivered the news with a heavy tone.

"I'm very sorry to inform you that you've had a miscarriage," he revealed.

Time I stood still in that moment, the words echoing in my ears. The room seemed to spin around me, and I instinctively clutched my chest, gasping for air. I was pregnant? The realization hit me with a profound impact, a deep well of grief washing over me.

If only I had known, I thought to myself, tears welling up and blurring my vision. I would have been more careful.

"I understand that this is a difficult time for you. Miscarriages can be emotionally challenging, and it's important to allow yourself to grieve and process your feelings," he said softly.

I nodded, my voice choked with sadness as I spoke.

"How... How far along was I?" I managed to ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

The doctor consulted my medical records before responding.

"You were approximately eight weeks along," he replied gently. "It's not uncommon for miscarriages to occur during the first trimester."

The weight of his words sank deep into my heart, and I found myself longing for the child I never had the chance to hold.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I need to talk to Eve," a familiar voice said.

It was James, our Beta, my best friend's brother who had always cared for me. When my friend left our pack, James promised to always be by my side. Tearfully, I looked at him.

"Oh, Eve, the doctor told me what happened. I'm sorry for your loss," James said, his voice filled with sympathy.

The doctor interjected, "I'll let you two talk."

"James, he rejected me, and now we've lost our child. It's too much. I can't..." I choked on my words, overwhelmed by grief.

"Shush, everything will be alright," James reassured me. "My sister has prepared her apartment for you. You can stay there."

"What?" I asked.

"Ryan says that when you wake up, you need to leave," James explained.

"So he's kicking me out?" I said, my voice trembling.

"I'm really sorry, Luna," James said.

"I'm not your Luna," I snapped.

"For me, you'll always be," James insisted, his words warming my heart.

"Tell him that when he realizes I'm innocent, I'll never come back," I declared.

Ryan’s POV:

I hated that day. The weight of it all kept me confined to my office, refusing to leave. The tearing feeling of breaking the bond with Eva consumed me, clawing at my heart and soul. I could still vividly picture her eyes as I shattered the once unbreakable connection between us.

I knew deep down that I did what I believed was right for the pack and for our safety, but why did it hurt so bad?

There was a sudden knock on the door, and in a fit of frustration, I instinctively shouted for whoever it was to leave. I had no desire to see anyone at that moment. However, my command was disregarded as James, the only one courageous enough to contradict me, entered the room.

"She was in the hospital. Unconscious," he informed me, his voice carrying a sense of concern.

A wave of mixed emotions crashed over me upon hearing the news. Despite the turmoil within, I responded in a cold and detached manner.

"When she wakes up, tell her to leave," I said.

James looked at me with disbelief, his eyes filled with disappointment.

"Why, Ryan?" he asked, his tone laced with disbelief.

"Because I said so," I retorted, my voice tinged with stubbornness.

James, however, refused to accept my dismissive response. "She is our Luna, your mate," he stated firmly. "Are you going to reject her like this?"

"I already did," I informed him.

"You did what?" he questioned, his voice filled with anger.

Frustration began to bubble within me. "I did what I was supposed to do," I asserted. "I was protecting our pack from potential traitors. What if she decided to poison someone else or even children someday?"

James shot me a piercing gaze. "Do you truly believe she is capable of such things?"

"All the evidence showed that," I defended myself.

"And out of all people, you didn't believe your wife?" he asked.

"I am the Alpha, and I make the decisions here," I shouted, my frustration boiling over.

James grew silent. He didn't utter another word.

"Go and deliver my decision to her," I commanded. "And don't you dare cross the line of talking back to me again," I warned him sternly.

"Yes, Alpha," he responded quietly, leaving the room.

***

James was sitting in front of my desk again, and I was already wondering what to hit him with. However, the way he was staring at the floor, I felt something was wrong. He's usually the first to speak, but he waited for me to start. I guess he wants me to ask about her.

"So... why are you here?" I asked, trying to maintain a detached tone.

"She is very weak, Ryan," he replied, his voice trailing off into silence.

I scoffed, dismissing his concern.

“Oh, come on, she's a strong wolf. The Gamma couldn't have thrown her that badly on the ground. She must be faking it."

“James looked up at me, and to my surprise, I noticed tears glistening in his eyes. A pang of alarm shot through me.

"What's wrong?" I demanded, my impatience slipping into my tone.

"She needs time to regain her strength..." James began, his voice trembling.

"Why? Why is she so sick?" I interrupted.

With a heavy sigh, James delivered the news, "Eve had a miscarriage."

The words struck me like a lightning bolt, instantly silencing all my thoughts.

"She was pregnant?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. "With my child? Ours?"

James nodded solemnly, his gaze filled with unspoken empathy. My mind raced, thoughts colliding like a whirlwind.

"Where is she? I need to find her!" I shouted.

His response was measured, "I left her in the hospital."

Suddenly, time seemed to warp as a surge of panic surged through my veins. Without a second thought, I descended the stairs, each step a pounding echo of my self-condemnation. She carried our child within her, and I, foolishly oblivious, failed to recognize the signs.

I don't remember how I got the distance to the hospital. My heart pounded against my chest. Determination fueled my every step as I strode into the hospital, a tempest of emotions swirling within me.

Once inside I raise my voice at the staff. I yelled out her name, urgently insisting that they take me to her immediately.

A doctor stepped forward with a composed demeanor. "She left the hospital," he informed me.

"How could you let her leave in this condition?" I demanded. He hesitated for a moment before responding,

"She told me it was Alpha’s orders, so I had to oblige. She instructed me to give you this note if you ever came."

My hands trembled as he handed me the folded piece of paper. I unfolded it, and it said:

'You will curse the day you rejected me. I will never forgive you. Live with it, asshole.'

Eve's POV: I walk down the hushed corridors, my heart heavy with the weight of my thoughts. A child's voice interrupts my reverie. "Miss Eve, can you draw with us?" one of the kids calls out. I offer a faint smile and reply, "Kids, I need to make a phone call first, but I'll join you in a moment, okay?" Two years have passed since I was banished from the pack. Amy and I have found our footing in the bustling city, where we launched our own event planning business. But in the quiet corners of my life, the pain of losing my child lingers like a shadow. To find solace and keep the memory of my miscarried child alive, I make it a point to volunteer at a local welfare home. Today is one of those days, a day I dedicate to these visits. The day I lost my child. I reach for my phone and dial my best friend and business partner, Amy. She's the company's director of catering and also owns a bakery, while I manage the overall business. Eve’s POV: Raven didn't move a muscle. He genuinely looked confused at my actions, as if he hadn't just asked a random woman to marry him. I wasn't entirely sure if he wasn’t just joking. I stood there waiting for him to laugh or even smile to signal to me that he was not completely crazy. "In my culture, when a woman shows you mercy and gives you food, you must marry her," he stated. At least now I got my answer. He's crazy. "In my culture, when a man is a creep, you call the police," I responded slowly, emphasizing each word so he could grasp its meaning. "My fiancé, there's no need for this," he pleaded. "I want to return the favor by providing you security, a home, and sustenance." "Don't call me that," I snapped, frustration seeping into my voice. "As you can see I already have a home, I fed you therefore I also have food. I'm great." "It's fate, my future wife. We must be together," he insisted. "As a matter of fact, we have a saying: fate turns everything around to meet y

Amy looked at me, confused and amazed. I never brought men home. "God, I'm sorry, I'm leaving now," she stammered and started to leave. Before I could stop her and explain, Raven intervened. He wore a conspiratorial smile as he turned to Amy. "We have a witness to our engagement. That's wonderful," he said. Amy's eyes darted between Raven and me, her brows furrowing in bewilderment. I couldn't resist playing along, so I flashed a mischievous smile and decided to join in on Raven's joke. "I got engaged!" I declared, feigning excitement as I showed off the ring on my finger. The shock on Amy's face was evident as she dropped her keys in disbelief. She struggled to process the unexpected revelation, her gaze alternating between my face and the ring. "You did what, Eve?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with astonishment. Raven and I burst into laughter. His contagious laughter made it difficult to keep a straight face. "We're just joking, Amy," I finally managed to say through my

Ryan’s POV: I observed the rookies as they practiced. I had taken it upon myself to participate in the training of our future pack soldiers after several months of unprovoked attacks from other werewolves. "Is that what you call running?" I bellowed. "I want you to sprint from one end of the gym to the other in under 5 seconds." The rookies hastened their pace, but they still fell short. My mood was foul, and I found myself venting my frustration on them. One of them stumbled and tumbled to the ground. I strode over to him, gripping the collar of his uniform, and forced him to face me. "What's your name?" I growled. "Cody, Alpha," he replied, his voice trembling. "Can you explain to me why you keep tripping over your own feet, Cody?" I questioned, my tone deceptively calm but laced with an unmistakable threat. "I'm sorry, sir," he stammered. "I don't want your apology; I want an explanation," I snapped. "I'll try harder..." he murmurs. Without warning, I shoved him down and

Eve’s POV: I gazed at my reflection in the mirror, my fingers smoothing out an errant strand of hair. My nerves were jangling like a piano wire, each note a discordant reminder of the choice I was about to make. Working with Raven meant trouble for Ryan, my ex-mate. Although I shouldn't have cared about his feelings after everything he put me through, a nagging voice in the back of my mind whispered "traitor." Back when I was part of the pack, I had been deeply involved in Ryan's business endeavors. Walking away from it now meant abandoning years of hard work and starting from scratch. I knew if Ryan ever found out, he'd see it as yet another betrayal. Thankfully, Ryan rarely visited the city, even when I was still part of the pack. I wasn't going to let him take this opportunity away from me. I needed this fresh start, this chance to be in control of my own destiny. I'd pledged my loyalty to Ryan as his mate, but he'd cast me out and break our bond. That pledge was no longer bind

Ryan’s POV: I stormed out of the glass door, my frustration nearly causing me to shatter it. I couldn't care less about Raven's new mall; he was just another competitor in the crowded market, and I was prepared to crush him like the others. My initial plan had been to intimidate him a bit, but everything fell apart the moment I laid eyes on her. I caught a whiff of her scent, a mix of summer and flowers, but I told myself it was a figment of my imagination. Then our eyes met, and I lost control. I despised getting so emotionally entangled with my competition, but seeing Eve was the last thing I expected. It felt like a dagger through my heart. Her and my rival—could it get any worse? I walked the streets aimlessly, my nerves on edge. The connection between us, the bond, had been awakened when I touched her, and the pain that radiated from it froze me in my tracks. I could sense everything—her fear, her grief, her pain. It was overwhelming, to the point of madness. She had betrayed

Eve’s POV: I sat frozen, like a stuffed animal, unable to gather my wits or find the strength to move a muscle. Seeing Ryan sitting on my doorstep was beyond comprehension. I blinked several times, trying to process the surreal sight before me. He looked angry, his breathing heavy and his eyes darting restlessly across my face. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words escaped my lips. Similarly, he remained silent, and we simply locked eyes, exchanging a wordless intensity. In the next instant, the impulse to retreat surged through me, urging me to run back into the safety of my house. But before I could react, Ryan grabbed me and pulled me into a tight embrace. At first, I felt numb, almost detached from the warmth enveloping me, but the reality of the situation quickly resurfaced, and I started to struggle against his hold. Yet, he only tightened his arms around me, refusing to let go. "What's wrong with you?" I screamed. I thrashed in his grip, desperate to break free. "How do

Eve’s POV: In the morning, I didn't allow myself to dwell on yesterday's events. I adjusted quickly, grabbing breakfast on the way and now finishing my coffee at Raven's Mall. I had decided to take some time before our meeting to jot down additional notes and details that I hadn't had the chance to cover yesterday. Amy was at the bakery, busy running errands for the upcoming event. With the mall expected to be filled with people, she would need at least a few more days to ensure everything was perfectly in order. I was just wrapping up an email detailing a decoration order with an agency I was collaborating with when three imposing men in uniform approached me. "Miss, we must ask you to leave the building," one of them stated firmly. I frowned, as I was nearly done with my work and didn't want to leave before completing everything. "Why?" I inquired. "It has been reported that there is a fire hazard, with some of the installations deemed unstable according to the person who signa

Ryan’s POV: My initial intent in coming to Eve's office was simply to taunt Raven. I wanted to remind him that he was encroaching on my territory by converting his property into a mall. However, as I watched the dynamics between Eve and Raven, a different kind of rage began to build within me. It was no longer just about territory; it was about the woman I considered mine. Raven, the son of the Alpha of the Grim Claw Pack, wasn't just taking over my territory; it seemed he had laid claim to my mate. The mere thought of it infuriated me, shit, I can't let this pass without a confrontation. I couldn't help but notice the sneaky eye contact between Eve and Raven when she gave him the heads-up about me trying to hinder the mall's opening. Their eyes were having a whole conversation that I couldn't freaking get. It kept bugging the hell out of me. My anger grew stronger as I recalled seeing Eve in Raven's building the previous day. She insisted it was all work-related, but if that were
