Three days before my wedding, I found out that Shane Dawson had changed the venue from Grandma Mae’s home in the South to Castillo de Sol, the Spanish castle that Tania Collins, his childhood sweetheart, adored. I confronted him, only to overhear him complaining to his friend, "Thank God Tania has taste. Otherwise, I’d be laughed at for life." His friend reminded him, "Didn’t you promise her you’d hold the ceremony at her grandmother’s house? Aren’t you afraid she’ll get angry and refuse to marry you?" Shane just laughed, sharp and dismissive. "The Quinns are on the verge of bankruptcy. Marrying me is her only way out. She can’t afford to gamble. I’ve already asked the planner to call her. She’s probably scrambling to change her flight right now." Anger and humiliation burned in my chest. I bit down on my lip and, in the end, turned away. Three days later, the castle wedding went on as scheduled, but I didn’t reschedule my flight. I didn’t show up. Instead, I stood in Grandma Mae’s old courtyard and exchanged rings with another man. To this day, Shane doesn’t understand. I never married him for some so-called escape route. I married him for a love that lasted ten years. However, once the dream was over, it was time for me to choose a different path.

Vows at Sunset Chapter 10
Ryan’s arm slid around me, his expression shining with unrestrained triumph. "If not for Lila, I’d never have considered you a brother."Shane spat through clenched teeth. He jabbed a finger toward me. "He’s coveted you all along! How could you marry him?"He turned back to me, desperate. "Listen, I left Tania in Spain. She’ll never make it back home. I avenged you! Lila, it’s not too late. Divorce him. Marry me instead. Don’t you remember? We swore before Grandma Mae’s portrait!"His shamelessness made me laugh coldly. "And who forgot that vow first, Shane? Who gave Grandma’s heirlooms away? Who made me suffer again and again for her sake? You say you avenged me, but weren’t you the one who betrayed me from the start?"I drew in a steady breath. "Since you should know the truth: the Quinn family business has already recovered. I told you I’d return everything because I loved you, not because of the Quinns. But you—" My voice hardened as I finished, "You wasted that love."His fac

At Castillo de Sol, Tania’s face blanched as if she were suffocating. "Shane, you’ve lost your mind! Let me go!"Before the red gown could be stripped away, a ripple went through the crowd. Someone had spotted breaking news. Murmurs exploded until Mark shoved a phone into Shane’s hands.A headline blazed across the screen:"Lane Group Announcement: Congratulations to CEO Ryan Lane, who, after years of devotion, has finally wed Miss Lila Quinn, his love of ten years. The couple is now officially married."Beneath it was a photograph of their marriage certificate, dated that very day.Ryan and Lila were officially husband and wife.Shane’s legs buckled. He collapsed backward, stiff and unyielding, like a man struck down by lightning.…'Nightmare, dream, self-deception—they all dissolve in a single instant of clarity.'Two days after the wedding, I woke up beside Ryan with those words echoing in my mind. This was the same room where I’d lived with Grandma Mae as a child. On the other side of Spain, Shane’s expression was so stormy that no one dared approach. Even his parents, who tried several times to calm him, retreated under the crushing weight of his fury.Tania twisted her fingers, staring at him as he dialed number after number, desperate. At last, she forced herself forward. "Shane, don’t worry. I haven’t known Lila long, but I don’t think she’s unreasonable. She’s probably just upset. There’s still an hour left."Once, no matter what she said, he would drop everything to respond. Now, he didn’t even look at her. He only kept redialing, calling every mutual friend he could think of.Ten more minutes passed. Still, no one could reach me.The red exclamation mark flashing on his chat made his fist clench. He spun, roaring, "When the hell are we taking off? I need to get to Coral Haven now!"Just then, Mark came running, phone still in hand. His face went pale when his eyes flicked toward Tania."Mr. Dawson, the thing is—""Say it! Or pack y

The call connected quickly. Shane rattled off my ID number, asking for my arrival time and airport. After half a minute, the agent replied, "Mr. Dawson, Miss Quinn didn’t change her destination. She changed her departure time. Instead of leaving last night, she flew yesterday afternoon. She already landed on Coral Haven at eight o’clock last night."Shane’s eyes widened. Before he could explode, Mark rushed up. "Mr. Dawson, Finance just flagged a transfer from Miss Quinn."The note on the payment read: "Money returned. Engagement void."The last time I had returned to Grandma Mae’s courtyard was six months ago.Back then, Shane had just proposed. We’d flown down in excitement, kneeling three times before her portrait. He had folded his hands, murmuring endless words to her spirit, "Grandma Mae, please bless Lila with health. Don’t let her overwork herself."Grandma Mae, in six months, we’ll come back. You’ll see with your own eyes as she walks down the aisle. Please, don’t forget

"Shane, you know better than anyone what that means to me!"It was the last keepsake Grandma Mae had left me, apart from the old courtyard. For a split second, his eyes flickered with hesitation, but then his face hardened. "You’re mistaken. That’s not your grandmother’s diamond.""I’m not mistak

"Honestly, Tania and Shane are a much better match."I glanced down at the teal gown I wore. I wasn’t a goddess, not by any stretch, but Shane used to call me beautiful all the time. He used to tuck the stray strands of hair behind my ear with tender hands.Across the room, Tania pouted playfully.

Tania’s eyes brimmed with tears, her voice trembling. "Shane, did I do something wrong? Lila just snapped at me so badly..."Before I could say a word, Shane’s face hardened. He turned on me with a glare. "Tania spent four months preparing that wedding dress for you. She stayed up late countless ni

"You already have my promise to marry you. What more are you nitpicking about?" Shane snapped. Then, Tania called. His expression softened instantly, a smile spreading across his face as he walked out to answer. My words scattered into the air, unheard. "It was you who proposed first. It was becau
