Elena sat beside Sophia in the car as the latter drove through the city streets.

Ever since they had left Daniel's house, Sophia hadn't stopped talking.

"Tell me you're not going to say you want to go home."

Elena looked at her in surprise.

"Why would I say that?"

"Because you always do."

Elena smiled.

"I do not."

"Yes, you do."

Sophia glanced at her for a moment before turning her eyes back to the road.

"Ever since I've known you, you've treated sadness like a full-time job."

Elena laughed softly.

"Does that mean you're going to end our friendship?"

"Absolutely not. Who else would put up with your moods?"

Elena laughed softly at her friend's words.

Sophia glanced at her from the corner of her eye and smiled.

She knew that this little laugh meant a lot.

She didn't ask what Elena was thinking.

She didn't pressure her.

She knew when to talk and when to give Elena room to be silent.

And that was precisely what made Elena hold on to her.

A few minutes later, the car stopped in front of a large shopping mall.

Elena looked at the building.

"Sophia..."

"No."

"I haven't said anything."

"But I know that look."

Sophia got out of the car.

"Today, the words 'I don't need anything' are forbidden."

Elena sighed and got out after her.

"You're impossible."

"And you're stubborn."

They entered the mall.

A few minutes later, Sophia was carrying several shopping bags while Elena walked beside her.

Elena said, "Didn't you say we were going to buy just a few things?"

Sophia looked at the bags.

"This is just a few things."

"This is way too much."

"Elena, you only bought two shirts."

"And that's enough."

"No, it isn't."

Elena shook her head, laughing.

They stopped in front of a clothing store.

Sophia ushered Elena inside.

"Try this on."

But this time, it wasn't a shirt.

It was an elegant black dress in a soft, understated shade, with a simple, refined design that fell gracefully to just below her ankles without being overly extravagant.

Elena held it in her hands and looked at it admiringly.

"It's beautiful."

Sophia smiled.

"Then try it on."

"I don't think I'll ever wear it."

"That's exactly why I'm making you try it on."

"Sophia..."

"Elena."

They looked at each other.

Then they both burst out laughing.

Elena stepped into the fitting room.

A few minutes later, she came out.

Sophia fell silent for a moment.

She looked at Elena with unmistakable admiration.

"Elena..."

Elena looked at herself in the mirror.

The dress suited her in a way she hadn't expected.

Her hair fell over her shoulders, and her features seemed calmer, as though, for the first time in a long while, she was seeing a different woman in the mirror.

Sophia said, "See? I told you it was gorgeous."

Elena smiled shyly.

"It really is beautiful."

"It's more than beautiful."

Sophia stepped closer to her.

"This dress deserves an occasion worthy of it."

Elena laughed.

"And where am I supposed to wear it?"

"We'll find an occasion."

Elena shook her head.

"You always have a plan."

She looked at herself in the mirror again.

A moment of silence passed.

She was beautiful.

But she wasn't used to looking at herself that way.

Since leaving, she'd focused on work and building a new life.

She'd forgotten to take care of herself.

Sophia spoke softly.

"You deserve to live, Elena."

Elena looked at her through the mirror.

She didn't answer.

But her smile faded slightly.

She placed a hand on the edge of the dress.

"Sometimes, I feel like I left a part of myself in the past."

Sophia moved closer to her.

"That's normal."

"But I don't want it to stay with me."

"Then don't carry it with you."

Elena turned to face her.

"Is it really that easy?"

Sophia shook her head.

"No."

Then she smiled.

"But it starts with a decision."

Elena fell silent.

Then she looked at her reflection once more.

A few moments later, she said, "I'll take it."

Sophia smiled.

"Finally!"

Elena laughed.

"But don't pick out anything else."

"I make no promises."

---

Hours later, they left the shopping mall.

The sun was beginning to sink toward the horizon.

Sophia put the bags in the car while Elena stood by the door for a moment.

She looked at the street.

The people moving about.

The cars.

The sounds.

Everything was ordinary.

Peaceful.

And yet, for a moment, she felt something strange.

As though her eyes had caught sight of something unfamiliar.

She turned around.

There was nothing there.

Just a man standing on the other side of the street, talking on his phone.

She paid no attention to him.

She opened the car door and got in.

Sophia asked, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

Then she smiled.

"Let's go home."

The car pulled away.

Elena had no idea that the man she'd glimpsed hadn't been there by chance.

He was one of Omar's men.

He didn't approach her.

He didn't follow the car.

He simply sent a brief message:

"Everything is normal. There is no danger."

On the other side of the city, the report reached Omar.

He read it, then forwarded it directly to Alexander.

Alexander was sitting in his office when a notification appeared on his phone.

He opened the message.

Read it.

Then locked his phone.

He didn't need to know the details of Elena's day.

It was enough to know that she was safe.

Meanwhile, Elena gazed out the car window at the passing streets.

And for the first time in a long while...

She didn't feel as though she were running away from the past.

She was simply...

Moving forward.

Since that day, Elena had tried to convince herself that what had happened was nothing more than a passing encounter.Alexander had appeared out of nowhere, walked beside her for a while, then left without asking her for anything. It was supposed to end there. But she was wrong. The following morning, Elena was sitting in a quiet café, turning the pages of a book in front of her and trying to concentrate on reading. She placed her coffee cup beside her, then turned the page.Suddenly, a hand reached out in front of her and placed a small piece of candy beside the book.Elena slowly raised her eyes.Alexander was standing in front of her, as though his appearance in this place were perfectly normal. She looked at the candy, then at him."What is this?"He sat in the chair opposite her without waiting for an invitation."A gift.""Why?""Because I saw you looking at it when you came in."She looked at the candy again."I only looked at it for two seconds.""But you were looking at it ad

But the car moved a little closer before coming to a stop.Alexander stepped out of the car calmly, then closed the door behind him.He paused for a moment, his eyes following Elena as she continued walking ahead of him. Then he started after her.He didn't hurry to catch up. Instead, he kept a reasonable distance between them, as though giving her the chance to notice his presence on her own.A few moments later, his voice came from behind her."Elena."She stopped where she was.She closed her eyes for a moment, as though hoping she had been mistaken. Then she slowly turned around.Alexander stood a few steps away, his hands tucked into the pockets of his coat, a calm smile resting on his face. She looked at him for a few moments without saying anything. Then she asked,"You?"His smile widened."I was hoping for a warmer welcome than that."She frowned."What are you doing here?"He answered simply,"Taking a walk."She glanced at the street around them, then looked back at him."B

The photograph remained in Elena's hands longer than she realized. She was still sitting there, surrounded by silence, her eyes fixed on the old picture of her and Alexander from that distant day.She was smiling in it as though the entire world held nothing but kindness for her.And Alexander...He was looking at her instead of the camera. Her eyes lingered on those little details. His arm around her waist, her shy smile, and the ring shining on her finger. Everything in the picture seemed so simple.Pure, perfect... and real. But that special photograph had now become an unbearably painful memory. She ran her fingertips along its edge, then let out a long sigh. How distant the girl in that picture seemed now.She no longer knew whether she missed Alexander himself...Or her former self...Or the man she had believed him to be back then. Her phone suddenly vibrated on the table. She startled slightly, then looked at it.Ryan's name appeared on the screen. She left the photograph on t

He opened the box. Inside was an elegant ring that glittered beneath the garden lights. Then Alexander lowered himself onto one knee before her. Elena covered her mouth with her hand, unable to stop the tears from filling her eyes. He looked up at her. "My little angel..." Her heart trembled at the words. He began to speak. "Ever since the day I met you, I never imagined that the girl who dropped her books in front of me would one day become the person I'm most afraid of losing." Tears streamed down her cheeks. He continued, "Years have passed since that day, and every year has made me more certain of one thing." He drew a deep breath. "I don't want to live the years ahead without you." Then he held out his hand toward her. "Elena Morris... will you spend the rest of your life with me?" She couldn't answer immediately. She stood there looking at him, tears filling her eyes, while he waited without putting any pressure on her. Then she laughed through her tears and no

Another year passed. It was not an entirely peaceful year, but it was filled with little moments that made Elena and Alexander's relationship stronger.Elena graduated from university.Alexander became more settled in his work and began taking on greater responsibilities within his father's company. His family got to know her, and her name became a familiar presence in their home, as though she had been part of it for years. As for Elena's family, they had grown accustomed to Alexander being in her life. His appearances were no longer a surprise. They had become perfectly natural. As time passed, their relationship no longer needed an explanation.Everyone knew that Alexander and Elena belonged together in a way that could no longer be ignored. But Alexander was hiding something.Something he had been working on for weeks. One morning, Elena received a message from him."Be ready at six this evening."She stared at the screen in confusion, then typed,"Where are we going?"His reply c

Since then, something between them had changed. There had been no sudden confession. Neither of them had said any grand words to the other. But something quiet had found its way into the details of their lives, until each had become a natural part of the other's day. Elena knew when Alexander was busy. She could tell from the tone of his voice when he was tired. She knew he drank far too much coffee and forgot to eat whenever work kept him occupied. As for Alexander, he had come to know that Elena read in silence when something upset her, that she rolled the end of her pen between her fingers whenever she was thinking, and that she could never resist buying new books, even when she already had dozens she hadn't finished reading. They no longer needed to look for excuses to meet. Seeing each other had become a habit in itself. On some days, Alexander would wait for her at the university gates. On others, Elena would go to the library and find her favorite cup of coffee wait
