Alexander woke up before his alarm went off.

He opened his eyes slowly and spent a few seconds staring at the ceiling without moving.

The morning was unsettlingly quiet.

There were no footsteps from Elena in the hallway.

No faint sound of curtains being drawn open.

And none of the words he had grown accustomed to hearing every morning:

"You've finally woken up."

Without thinking, he reached toward the other side of the bed.

Then his fingers stopped against the cold sheets.

He quickly pulled his hand back.

As though the cold had reminded him of something he had spent the past two months trying not to think about.

He got out of bed.

He was putting on his black shirt when his reflection appeared in the mirror.

The same man.

The same suit.

The expensive watch.

The sharp features.

Everything was in its place.

Except his eyes.

They looked as though he hadn't slept in months.

He entered the bathroom, washed his face, then stood in front of the mirror for a long time.

He no longer knew whether he missed Elena...

Or whether he missed the man he had been when she was by his side.

He left the bedroom and headed downstairs.

The mansion was quiet.

Far quieter than a mansion of that size should have been.

He passed a small table, then stopped.

A small vase stood on it.

The flowers he had ordered to remain there weeks ago.

He approached them.

He brushed his fingertips against one of the leaves, then withdrew his hand.

"Even these went unnoticed until after you left."

He said the words to himself.

Then he continued on his way.

In the dining room, Victoria sat looking at her phone.

She raised her head when he entered.

"Good morning."

"Good morning."

She waited for him to sit down.

But he didn't.

She asked, "You have a meeting today, don't you?"

"Yes."

"What about lunch?"

"I have an invitation."

She raised an eyebrow.

"An invitation?"

"From a new business partner."

A brief silence followed.

Then she offered him a faint smile.

"Am I coming with you?"

Alexander looked at her for a second.

"No."

His answer was calm but firm.

Her expression changed.

"Why?"

"Because it's a business invitation."

She didn't reply.

Alexander picked up his keys and left.

---

The city was as crowded as ever.

Cars moved slowly through traffic, glass buildings reflected the sunlight, and people crossed the streets, unaware of anything about the man sitting inside the black car.

Alexander gazed out the window.

Several familiar places passed by.

A restaurant.

A café.

A small bookstore.

Places he had visited with Elena once.

Strangely, he couldn't remember the details of his meetings with her in those places.

But he remembered her laughter.

He stopped looking outside.

And closed his eyes.

Why were the smallest details the ones that remained?

---

About an hour later, the car stopped in front of a spacious house surrounded by trees.

The house belonged to Daniel Walker, Alexander's new business partner, with whom he had recently begun discussing a major deal.

Daniel greeted him at the door with a warm smile.

"Alexander! I'm glad you accepted the invitation."

Alexander shook his hand.

"And I'm glad to meet you outside the usual business setting."

Daniel laughed.

"I thought to myself that we'd be working together for a long time, so we might as well get to know each other away from our corporate offices."

They entered the house.

Everything was quiet and elegant.

As Daniel discussed some of the details of the deal, Alexander listened attentively.

But something made him pause.

A faint laugh reached his ears.

A simple laugh.

Distant.

Yet so familiar that it unsettled him.

He raised his head.

Through the glass window near the dining room, he looked toward the hallway leading to the garden.

Daniel stopped talking.

"What's wrong?"

Alexander didn't answer.

A woman was standing among the plants.

Her back was turned toward him.

Long red hair flowed down her back.

His breath caught in his throat.

He didn't need to see her face.

He didn't need a photograph.

Or a file.

Or men searching an entire city.

He knew that hair.

He knew that posture.

He knew her better than he knew himself.

The woman shifted slightly, as though she were about to turn around.

For the first time in two months, Alexander felt his heart, so accustomed to silence, begin pounding fiercely against his ribs.

Daniel spoke casually.

"Oh, that's Elena."

The world stopped for Alexander.

Elena.

The name he had searched for everywhere.

The name he had thought he would never hear again.

He stared at her from a distance, unable to say a word.

Then Daniel continued.

"She's my son Liam's private tutor. She's been excellent with him."

Alexander didn't hear the rest of the sentence.

His eyes were fixed on her alone.

After two months of searching...

Elena was standing right in front of him.

Real.

Alive.

And close enough for him to reach her.

But there was only one question he couldn't answer:

Would Elena still be... the angel he had lost?

Or had she become someone who no longer had a place in his life?

Since that day, Elena had tried to convince herself that what had happened was nothing more than a passing encounter.Alexander had appeared out of nowhere, walked beside her for a while, then left without asking her for anything. It was supposed to end there. But she was wrong. The following morning, Elena was sitting in a quiet café, turning the pages of a book in front of her and trying to concentrate on reading. She placed her coffee cup beside her, then turned the page.Suddenly, a hand reached out in front of her and placed a small piece of candy beside the book.Elena slowly raised her eyes.Alexander was standing in front of her, as though his appearance in this place were perfectly normal. She looked at the candy, then at him."What is this?"He sat in the chair opposite her without waiting for an invitation."A gift.""Why?""Because I saw you looking at it when you came in."She looked at the candy again."I only looked at it for two seconds.""But you were looking at it ad

But the car moved a little closer before coming to a stop.Alexander stepped out of the car calmly, then closed the door behind him.He paused for a moment, his eyes following Elena as she continued walking ahead of him. Then he started after her.He didn't hurry to catch up. Instead, he kept a reasonable distance between them, as though giving her the chance to notice his presence on her own.A few moments later, his voice came from behind her."Elena."She stopped where she was.She closed her eyes for a moment, as though hoping she had been mistaken. Then she slowly turned around.Alexander stood a few steps away, his hands tucked into the pockets of his coat, a calm smile resting on his face. She looked at him for a few moments without saying anything. Then she asked,"You?"His smile widened."I was hoping for a warmer welcome than that."She frowned."What are you doing here?"He answered simply,"Taking a walk."She glanced at the street around them, then looked back at him."B

The photograph remained in Elena's hands longer than she realized. She was still sitting there, surrounded by silence, her eyes fixed on the old picture of her and Alexander from that distant day.She was smiling in it as though the entire world held nothing but kindness for her.And Alexander...He was looking at her instead of the camera. Her eyes lingered on those little details. His arm around her waist, her shy smile, and the ring shining on her finger. Everything in the picture seemed so simple.Pure, perfect... and real. But that special photograph had now become an unbearably painful memory. She ran her fingertips along its edge, then let out a long sigh. How distant the girl in that picture seemed now.She no longer knew whether she missed Alexander himself...Or her former self...Or the man she had believed him to be back then. Her phone suddenly vibrated on the table. She startled slightly, then looked at it.Ryan's name appeared on the screen. She left the photograph on t

He opened the box. Inside was an elegant ring that glittered beneath the garden lights. Then Alexander lowered himself onto one knee before her. Elena covered her mouth with her hand, unable to stop the tears from filling her eyes. He looked up at her. "My little angel..." Her heart trembled at the words. He began to speak. "Ever since the day I met you, I never imagined that the girl who dropped her books in front of me would one day become the person I'm most afraid of losing." Tears streamed down her cheeks. He continued, "Years have passed since that day, and every year has made me more certain of one thing." He drew a deep breath. "I don't want to live the years ahead without you." Then he held out his hand toward her. "Elena Morris... will you spend the rest of your life with me?" She couldn't answer immediately. She stood there looking at him, tears filling her eyes, while he waited without putting any pressure on her. Then she laughed through her tears and no

Another year passed. It was not an entirely peaceful year, but it was filled with little moments that made Elena and Alexander's relationship stronger.Elena graduated from university.Alexander became more settled in his work and began taking on greater responsibilities within his father's company. His family got to know her, and her name became a familiar presence in their home, as though she had been part of it for years. As for Elena's family, they had grown accustomed to Alexander being in her life. His appearances were no longer a surprise. They had become perfectly natural. As time passed, their relationship no longer needed an explanation.Everyone knew that Alexander and Elena belonged together in a way that could no longer be ignored. But Alexander was hiding something.Something he had been working on for weeks. One morning, Elena received a message from him."Be ready at six this evening."She stared at the screen in confusion, then typed,"Where are we going?"His reply c

Since then, something between them had changed. There had been no sudden confession. Neither of them had said any grand words to the other. But something quiet had found its way into the details of their lives, until each had become a natural part of the other's day. Elena knew when Alexander was busy. She could tell from the tone of his voice when he was tired. She knew he drank far too much coffee and forgot to eat whenever work kept him occupied. As for Alexander, he had come to know that Elena read in silence when something upset her, that she rolled the end of her pen between her fingers whenever she was thinking, and that she could never resist buying new books, even when she already had dozens she hadn't finished reading. They no longer needed to look for excuses to meet. Seeing each other had become a habit in itself. On some days, Alexander would wait for her at the university gates. On others, Elena would go to the library and find her favorite cup of coffee wait
