ANMELDENLeena
“Oh no worries,” I said to her. “I’ll just be on my way now,” I said awkwardly and stepped forward. “Mr…George was it? Please, don’t forget to talk to Scott. Have a nice day.” I walked straight to my car without looking back, and told the driver to head straight to my company. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding and yawned as the car rolled out of the school premises. My phone buzzed as I tried to organize my thoughts. “Genna?” I said as I answered. “Where are you? The meeting starts in twenty minutes. Surely you wouldn’t want to leave a bad impression on these mergers would you?” she said in a rush. I instinctively glanced at the clock and cursed under my breath. I was fifteen minutes late. “Kendrick, speed up a bit please,” I said to my driver. He glanced at me worriedly through the rearview mirror, but my sharp look was enough to force him to look at the road. “I’m so sorry Genna. I’ll be there as fast as I can. Are the representatives there yet?” I huffed, checking my appearance on the windscreen. Asides how fast my brain was working through my presentation, there was no sign of panic. “No, they said their boss himself is coming. You wouldn’t want him to get here without you now huh,” I could practically see her signature scolding stance, with her hands on her waist and a look that screamed ‘I’m going to throw you out of a window’. She was a very sweet girl, despite her witch traits. “I’m coming, I’m coming. Just get everything prepared.” She hung up after a loud huff. Working three separate jobs as a single mother was hard. When I woke up from my accident–induced coma to see that I had a three month old child, I nearly went back into the coma. I thought life for me would be hell, and I would end up homeless on the streets begging for alms. But Genna made sure that it just remained a thought. She picked me up from my lowest, introduced me to the right people, was my support system, and became a very important part of my success. I didn’t even know I was good at modelling until she pushed me to try. “We’re here ma’am,” Kendrick’s clipped voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “Oh shoot,” I hurriedly got down from the car, limping slightly as I walked through the revolving doors of K Construction, my construction company. Everyone bowed their heads as I rushed past into the elevator, and I waved back at them, trying to be polite. I was always trying to be polite. “Miss K,” my secretary Anna called as I raced to the conference room. “They’ve just arrived. You got here in time.” “Phew,” I sighed in relief as she handed me her tablet that contained all the necessary information. My heart would hate me after this much work, but I didn’t have a choice. “And HR?” “They have all the analysis charts ready. The collaboration should go smoothly, Miss.” She said with enthusiasm. I nodded, passing her my bag as we headed into the conference room. The entire committee was seated, all waiting for my arrival. I spotted Genna pacing behind my seat, but the second she saw me, her expression turned to relief. I nodded at everyone, shooting her a wink as I got into my seat. “They’re coming up the elevators now,” Anna said, standing beside me with her tablet in hand. I nodded and took a deep breath. The moment the doors swung open, everyone in the room stood up as a formal way of greeting. Except me. Why? Because the man walking into my conference room had a striking resemblance to the same man I met this morning. Scott’s father. I sat there confused for a second, until Genna kicked at my seat. I flinched back to reality and got up immediately, pushing the thought that this could be the same man to the back of my mind. But everything was the same. The light stubble on his chin, dark blue eyes, and a tattoo peeking out of his right arm. Was it right or left? I don't know. His presence made my brain cells fry. When he got closer, his eyes landed on me and I caught a slight twitch of his mouth. This time, he stretched out his hand first. “Miss Kensington, we meet again,” he said, his velvety voice making my heart stutter. I swallowed and shook his hand, convinced that this had to be some sort of cruel joke. Then again, I didn’t know this man, so I couldn’t just judge him. “Mr George,” I cleared my throat, finally finding my voice. “Welcome. Please have a seat.” He unbuttoned his suit and sat down, but his frame still seemed to swallow the space, and couldn’t just help but stare at him. “Did you know him from somewhere?” Genna whispered harshly at me. I shot her a glance and nodded slightly. “I’ll tell you later,” I mouthed back. I took a deep breath, gathered my thoughts, and gestured to the head of HR, Alex, to begin the presentation. And even though I couldn’t tell fantasy from reality, I could feel George’s eyes on me. Like a suffocating prickle at the back of my neck, his gaze made me strangely self conscious. “Get it together Leena.” I muttered under my breath, met his gaze, and smiled politely. This was going to be one long meeting.LeenaThe weeks ran by so fast. I was caught up in work and investigating that I lost track of time. I couldn’t attend the Constantino event with Revna, nor could I attend Genna’s pre-wedding activities much to her annoyance. I was determined to find out who had my child. Vivian had been digging on aby information pertaining to me but there was nothing. It seemed like I only began to exist three years ago after my accident. No matter how hard she tried to find something, she always encountered a block that prevented it from happening. George on the other hand, was working to find out everything about Dr. Tim but faced the same challenges we had. The man was impossible to find but George didn’t give up, he was determined to help at all cost and that made the walls in my heart shatter. He worked like he was searching for his own son. I’d often expect him to get upset when he had the usual squabbles with Vivian but he never abandoned it. It had gotten much better between them as they w
LeenaI cleared out my schedule for Friday to be at Revna's school. The memo they sent right after she informed me stated that the meeting would be brief but one never knew what could come up and change that.I checked in with Alfred as I parked in the lot and walked towards the designated building for the meeting."Leena?" I stopped at the sound of my name and turned to see Beth walking towards me. It was surprising to find her here and even more that she called out to me."Beth" I fixed a smile on my face as I turned to her."What are you doing here?" I asked and she smiled."Scott's parents won't be able to make the meeting so I'm here on their behalf" I nodded."They are fortunate to have you. I hope they know that" I said as I continued walking and she joined me."I come to these meetings most times. I don't ever see you around?""I usually get the memo too late to do anything about it. But since I got this early, I had to clear out my schedule to be here""You're doing it all al
LeenaI frowned at the detective who stared at me with a narrowed gaze. “You seem confused Ma’am. Do you not know Alicia?”“I do”“And have you heard of her murder?”“Leena” George’s hand found its way to my waist and I ignored the feelings it sent through my body. Now wasn’t the time. “Who are you?”“Her friend. Do we need our lawyer present?” The man frowned. “Not at all. It’s only a few questions and I’ll be gone” I looked at George who nodded. “Come on in” I moved aside and he came into my home. “Would you like some coffee?” Vivian asked but Michael shook his head. “I’m fine. I need to get this over with and get back to work” he pulled out his notepad and pen. “How close were you to the victim?”“Not close at all. We only met once and we were going to meet up today” I responded. “Did you have business together?” I shrugged. “She had something of mine.” He stared at me for a while, then noted something in his book. “Do you know of anyone who could want her dead?” I looked
Leena“You’re safe” George assured and Martha nodded. I watched both of them get into the car and drive away, and now it was only George and me, with another car. “Let’s go” he said as he dropped a wad of bills. “What do we do about my car?”“My men will drive it for a while and report back to me. I need to know if they’ll target it again. Come on in, I’ll drive us back” I don’t argue and join him in his car. The drive was silent in the first few minutes and then he looked at me. “What is going on? Why is there someone after you?” I sighed. I owed him an explanation at the very least. “I went after them first” I said and he stared at me. “Did you offend them?” I shook my head. “But they are angry”“I’m going to need a clearer explanation Leena” There was impatience in his voice and I couldn’t fault him for that. “As you know, I had a pretty nasty accident three years ago. I lost my memories from it and I don’t remember giving birth to Revna. I came across something that led m
Leena“What?” I don’t hide the shock. George crowded me, concern on his face. My hands shook as I realized George had been right earlier. The events of tonight had not been coincidental. I was targeted and whoever was involved had something to do with what happened to me three years ago. Maybe I had been searching in the wrong place. Maybe I needed to find one who I was before I lost my memory. That could help touncover who was after me.“Leena” Martha’s voice was frantic over the phone.“I’m scared. Eunice is scared. We are all in danger, if they got to Alicia, they could be coming for us”“I’ll come and get you. I’ll keep you both safe” I heard sniffling on the other end of the line.
LeenaI'm beyond shocked to see George standing in this place and what's worse, he shot a man. My whole body trembled and I unconsciously tried to move away as he drew closer."Leena!" His sharp voice drew me back to the present. He held out a gloved hand for me and I hesitated."Leena" he called softly this time and I took it. He helped me to my feet and I'm pressed against his body. I get lost in the feeling for a moment, then pull away."What the hell are you doing here? You shot that man""If I didn't, he would have killed you" his voice was hard, no remorse about what he had done. But he was right if he hadn't shot my attacker, I would have been dead. But shooting wasn't for us. The policemen would have handled it."
