Maya grabbed my arm after my shift ended and dragged me toward the parking lot with this determined look on her face that I knew meant trouble. “You’re coming to Jude’s hockey game tonight and I won’t take no for an answer,” she said while doing this wiggly eyebrow thing that made my face burn hot.

“Maya, I don’t think—”

“Nope, you’re going,” she interrupted me cheerfully while opening her truck door. “You need to see him play at least once and trust me, it’s worth it.”

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    Interlude III

Interlude IIIJude walked out of the dining room, his hand adjusting the collar of his shirt, feeling it constricting the intake of air he was breathing in as he felt something thump in the corner of his chest, something he wasn't sure he possessed before now. Her skin had been warm against his lips, and the soft gasp she'd released, those wide blue eyes staring back at him, did a lot to him.He kept his gaze forward as River hopped on his tail. "Where are we headed?" Jude asked, already moving toward the door."One of the shipments came in," River said, falling into step beside him to match his pace. "And the new club that opened two weeks ago has been thriving. Word is the police were parading the area a few days back too."Jude raised a brow. Police parading the new club? He and the department had settled things a long time ago, for mutual benefit, with no disruption to each other's work. Well, he could use some distractions for whatever was happening with my wife. "Let's see it."

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    Two to Tango

Chapter 7 - Two to TangoRosie povAfter swallowing the last broth, I stood up to go back to the room, and Savannah was quickly behind me, and as I turned the corner of the hallway, Sophia was already there, leaning against the wall with her shoulder, arms crossed over her chest.I was surprised to see her. I'd assumed she left after storming out of the dining room early. I could feel my head throbbing at the sight of her. Besides her stood Elena, who I'd thought had already retreated to her room to sulk. Apparently, I'd been wrong; I didn't let my surprise show on my face because it seemed they'd been waiting for me. To feed on my fear or not."You opportunist," Sophia hissed between her teeth, pushing off the wall and stalking to stand at my front. "Thank goodness we were the same height; it would hurt for her to stare down at me." "You took my man," she stressed. "The man. I was supposed to be his wife, and you came from nowhere and took him!” Is he a toy to be taken? But I kept m

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    The Mistress

Chapter 6 - The MistressRosie POVI was back at the altar. I thought I had been saved from Mr. Lawson, but he turned toward me, blood dripping from the dark hole in his chest. His grin was wide and manic as he rasped, "You are becoming my wife."I shook my head, frantically trying to run away, but the ground felt like endless darkness. I kept stumbling in the white-stained dress, running in circles as he called out, "You are mine."I screamed, "Get away, you are dead!" but he laughed, catching up to me.Then a deafening crack of a gunshot echoed, and I whipped my head toward the light at the end of the tunnel, searching for the figure with the gun who had just saved me, but the dream shattered before I could see his face.***I jolted awake, sweat soaking into my skin as my chest thumped against my ribs. I saw my husband sitting beside me, and the memory of the dream made my breath hitch. In my mind, he was the one who had killed Mr. Lawson, and the power he held over my pathetic life

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    Interlude II

Interlude IIJude povI was in the middle of changing my suit when the head maid, Savannah, appeared in the doorway, dipping her head in a familiar gesture of respect. "Crown," she murmured, but I simply continued to strip off the discarded piece of cloth as I moved. I didn't need to speak; she knew why she was here and what she wanted to say."The mistress has fainted," she said, her eyes glued to the floor just below my shoulder, her hands pressed against her chest in reverence."How did that happen?" I tilted my head toward her while reaching for a black shirt in the closet."I do not know, but she came out of the shower and saw the steak on the tray, then she vomited and fainted," she said, and I clicked my upper teeth in irritation.Without waiting for further instruction, she left as quietly as she had entered. Savannah had been the head maid since my father's time, having served his father before that. She had literally watched two generations grow up, and her loyalty ran deep.

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    To the Island.

Chapter 5 - To the Island.Rosie povI don’t know how the wedding ceremony went, but I knew I got married to the man that crashed my wedding and killed my groom in a blurry haze. I got stuck with a man I knew not, the man who had just painted the church floor red while I was whisked away to a helicopter. After he had gestured to the priest, who had fumbled for a moment, his hands shaking as he held the bible to his chest, before he regained his composure and finished the vows as if he had experienced something like this a dozen times before. The crowd remained seated, the air thick with muffled, terrified noise, but no one dared to protest. I couldn't even recall if I had said "I do" or if my voice had failed me again. I just stared at the spot where Mr. Lawson had been standing, haunted by how quickly life had left him—how his face had opened in a silent "oh" before his lively, predatory eyes turned dull and vacant in a heartbeat. The memory made me heave, my stomach clenching as if

  • Winter's Mate: Fated on Ice    Red Wedding.

Chapter 4 - Red Wedding. Rosie povToday was my wedding day. I was getting married against my will.I swallowed hard, keeping my head tilted back to ensure the tears wouldn’t split and stain the thick layer of makeup they’d plastered onto my face or the emotions choking me, but I couldn't let them out—not with the team of women parading around me, watching my every move and correcting me to be an ‘obedient wife to her husband’. They had been here for a week, fitting me into dresses and bathing me in products I’d never thought I would ever use in my life.I didn't think I could go along with this arrangement. My mother was a force to be reckoned with. I had tried to run away twice, but Mr. Lawson’s men had dragged me back home before I could even run far, and I let out a humorless laugh, remembering how easy it was to catch me. And my mother, worried about losing her ticket to a higher class, had slapped me hard before locking me in my room for a full day. After the final touch of make
