Buck “Steel” Knight POV

“I said one grand,” Prez grinned when I got back into the shop after having helped Miss Cooper with her bike. You could see by the look in her eyes that – despite the motorcycle being a bucket of bolts – she loved that old thing with all of her heart.

We were just about ready to close down for today, so there hadn’t been much else to do than to offload it and help her put it down somewhere where she’d be able to work on it without disturbing any of the other work and repairs going on around here.

She’d said her goodbyes and "see you tomorrow", and by the way, she’d drawn it out, I think--- I hoped it was because she wanted to spend time with me. Despite my big, bulky appearance and scowling features, I was actually really shy and didn’t flirt much with women. Actually, the fairer sex had me more often in a choke hold than any of our rival MCs had. And considering they liked picking fights with me, that’s saying some…

“Who’s going to pitch in for the other half?” Prez continued to tease me. He already knew why I did it, he just wanted to hear me say it. I think he liked seeing his brothers stumble over our feet regarding women, considering he’d sworn them off since his divorce from Halley.

Talk about snakes in Eden!

“Take it off my pay, Prez,” I mumbled, hoping no one else heard. I’d never see the end of it if any of my brothers heard…

Although I officially owned the metal shop, Prez was the one running it. And I was glad about that. I’d never been the brightest kid in school, having to battle dyslexia all my life, and I dropped out, trading high school for the Navy. I did one tour and was halfway through my second when I got word that my dad had gotten sick. That’s when I got back home. Mom had to work two different jobs as I took over running the shop, but I knew things weren’t going well.

That’s when I met Prez and the Wolf Riders MC!

They were on the run from their own Enforcers and the president at the time, having failed a coup. The president was forcing their patched members and prospects to do the drugs they were supposed to deal, only allowing them their fix once the drop was done. Even going as far as overdosing on a couple of them, and the women inside the club. Men who didn’t get their fix got aggressive, and on more than one occasion, the fight ended with someone dead on the floor.

And their president enjoyed it!

Prez – Snake at the time! – and a few others had had enough and tried to take over, but failed. I gave them a place to hide and get rid of the enforcers.

But things didn’t go as planned.

Someone drew a weapon on me and fired. I guess it must have hit a wrench or some type of metal because the bullet bounced right off me. And that was when the fighting really started. I disarmed and killed the man faster than they could blink. And that’s when Prez and the others saw a chance and took it, killing the others and managing to take over the club.

They offered me a place in their ranks, and seeing that I was a decent fighter, the role of enforcer came naturally. The money the club had needed some dry-cleaning, and again, I offered the shop as a place of operation. After that, they all started working with me, and things started to look up, for the shop as well as the club. I started to call Prez--- well, Prez and everyone else followed suit…

“That’s your type, Steel?” he asked, just as Miss Cooper’s beat-up pickup coughed its way out of the parking lot. Shit, I probably needed to do something about that too, if I wanted her safe on the road…

“She’s different,” I confessed, smiling a little when I remembered how she’d hugged me earlier. Sure, I was built like a tank, but that’s not what had resulted in my tag name. After getting shot at close range, and the bullet just bouncing off, the men were convinced that I must be made of steel. It wasn’t until they saw me bleed that I finally convinced them that kryptonite wasn’t my weakness…

“I know,” Prez grinned, clearly having way too much fun at my expense. “And judging by the number of boners her perky little ass got, I’d claim her fast if I were you.” He laughed. “Hell, if I hadn’t sworn off women, I’d claim that sass for myself! Did you see the way she put Jones on his ass? HA! Priceless!”

Yeah, that had definitely made my day as well. Sheriff Jones was the arrogant, spoiled brat who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and since his daddy was the major, he got away with all kinds of shit! No one really liked him, and hell, if someone had to report a crime, it was more likely they called the Wolf Riders than the police…

“Perhaps we could hire her?” I offered, seeing that she apparently knew a little bit about being a lawyer. And Prez desperately needed one right now… “She said she was a lawyer, and you could use one.”

“I need a bloody miracle, not cleavage on legs,” Prez scoffed and rolled his eyes. OK, so he didn’t buy that she was a very experienced lawyer, I got that. Hell, even I’d been surprised when she said that! She didn’t look a day older than 20! How could she be a lawyer?! Didn’t that shit take like 10 years or something? Which meant that she was probably older than me, and I was 32…

Not that that made me any less interested! She was smoking hot, and if she were a cougar, I’d happily purr for her! Fiery red hair, a narrow waist, and legs for days!

Meow!

Her eyes were a beautiful moss-green, almost as green as my own, and when she smiled, her whole entire face lit up, making her look like an angel!

The horns were only there to keep the glory straight!

“That’s the tightest ass I’ve ever seen!” Knives, the club’s VP and a self-proclaimed ladies' man, suddenly jumped into the conversation. “Did she---?”

“Sorry, Knives,” Prez cut in before ice managed to settle in my stomach. “Steel called dips.”

Knives whined, but there was nothing he could do. And I was glad. Whereas I was all slip’n’slide with women, Knives was the kind of smooth who could make a nun strip down for him. So, yeah, I was glad Prez spoke up for me. I never wanted a woman to come between brothers, but I think I wanted to make an exception with Miss Cooper. Who knew? She could turn out to be just like all the other club whores we had back at the clubhouse…

Or---

“Fuck,” Knives grunted and gave me a lopsided smile. “How do you feel about sharing?”

“No,” I replied courtly, and stood, heading back to work. Knives and Bunny, an aspiring prospect, sometimes shared their females. They claimed it was the best sex they could get, but I didn’t get it. Bunny was a tech-wiz and worked from the clubhouse, doing everything that needed to be done, from installing security to hacking said security. He was our intel guy, and I knew that all I had to do was call him up, and 30 minutes from now, I’d know what Miss Cooper ate for lunch. But I wanted to get to know her without cutting any corners. Like what they did in the good old days, by talking to each other…

Now---

I only needed to gather the courage to go up and talk to her…!

Rose's POV“Now I’m done!” Cracker happily announced, with a grin. She and Knives had a moment, and after it passed, he smirked and chuckled, despite the blood dripping from his nose. The crowd cheered as the fight came to a conclusion, and I quickly rushed up to my man.“Are you ok?” I asked worried, seeing a lot of blood coloring his hand, face, and T-shirt.“He’ll be fine!” Cracker snorted and handed him a towel. “I held back.”“Like fuck you did!” he grunted, but took the towel anyway and looked around until he found Grace. It wasn’t until she held out an icepack that I understood the situation.So... this was a regular occurrence?Judging by how prepared everyone was, I’d say yes! Hell, even Prez held out a T-shirt ready for him, a

8 weeks later...Rose’s POVI put the last file away, happy that that nightmare was over. After weeks of court meetings and police questioning, the case against Grace had been classified as closed, and she was found NOT guilty. Thanks to Cracker, they couldn’t hold her on a single charge, and after The Wolf Riders showed the new cops, who had rolled into town a couple of weeks ago, all the evidence they’d gathered, they put an APB on Jones and the rest of Viper’s men.Not that they’d ever find them...Through the office window, I realized that Cracker was dragging Knives downstairs, and for some reason, everyone was laughing and eagerly following them down the stairs. My man didn’t look too happy about it, but as always when life gave him lemons--- he sucked it up and swallowed it!

Steel’s POVI walked into the basement and watched the figure on the chair, with a black sack covering his face. Not that it was any mystery who he was! He was cursing up a storm, as we’d caught him just as he was about to leave town. Now that the skeletons were coming out of the closet, heads were rolling, and his father was among them...I pulled the sack off, revealing a disheveled and pissed-off Jones under the fabric.“You’ll all rot in jail for this!” he screamed as if he had any authority here.“Really,” I scoffed and turned to Prez, who was standing next to me. “Say... Didn’t Jones drive off after trying to irritate the shit out of us?”“You wanted to smack him, but he left alive and well, the last time I saw him,” Prez replied with a deadpan

Knives's POVThe good doctor looked at all of us, seeing the hostility and disgust there, he dropped the good doctor act and turned to Prez with a cold, heartless, and calculated stare.“I can save her,” he said shortly, cutting all the bullshit. “Or I don’t! What is she worth to you?”Anger flashed behind Prez’s calm exterior while the rest curled their fingers until their knuckles turned white. But before anyone could answer, I’d already snapped. I was so fucking sick and tired of the bad guys having the upper hand in this fight. Tired of always having an Ace up their sleeve and tired of being moved around like a fucking pun on a fucking chessboard!I. Was. Fucking. DONE!“How about this?” I growled, and before anyone could stop me, I had the good doctor by the throat and pressed him up against

Knives’s POV“ROSE!”Her name left my lips in a mix of rage and pain. I rushed over to her, and my training automatically kicked in. Blood was oozing from a hole in her chest, and she wasn’t moving. I dropped next to her, and to my relief, she still had a pulse. But it was weak and getting weaker with each struggling heartbeat.“Fuck! Call an ambulance!” Decker, I think, called out behind me, as I covered her wound with my shirt, trying to stop the bleeding.Well, fuck that!“GRACE!”I screamed her name from the top of my lungs, and within seconds, I noticed there was a big, barely visible blond next to me. But for some reason, my eyesight was getting blurry, and I didn’t understand why. I fucking needed to see!

Moments before...Knives’s POV“We have a huge problem!” Steel said as he came rushing over. Panic wasn’t an emotion you saw a lot on the huge Enforcer, but when it was there, we knew to worry! And fuck it, but my heart dropped, my mind instantly going to Rose and the club. Had they hit the club while we were out?Rose...!Steel held out his phone, and I realized that he was on speaker with someone, but had muted his mic.“Davis,” Grace’s voice came through, and it sounded like she was trying to calm or placate someone. “Let’s not be reckless here, OK? But the fucking gun away---!”“That’s Grace,” Prez said, his eyes wide in fear.Well, fuck that!
