“You want to see your family that much? Don’t worry, I won’t let you down. My men will soon be here,” Morris said with a frenzy of delight on his face, as if Clarice would appear at any moment. Edmund’s face turned paler when he heard Morris. Clarice was his only child. He would do anything to prevent her from getting hurt. Ironically, he could not do anything now. He knew if Morris got hold of Clarice, she would be killed. Edmund had kept the secret deep in him because he wanted to protect Clarice and give her a good life. Yet, spoiling her had somehow gotten her into this mess, ultimately putting her life at risk. Had he not meddled with the Geofreys, Clarice might have lived peacefully.Though he slightly regretted his decision, no amount of regret could change the future. He could surrender himself and let Morris kill him, hoping that, in return, Clarice would be freed. The other choice was to resist until the end and place his trust in Kaze to protect Clarice.
