Akira’s POVIn a few minutes, the doctor arrived, an older man with eyes that spoke of years of experience. He moved swiftly, not wasting any time as he set to work on Hunter. The guards stepped aside to let him through, and I watched, still frozen, as he began the process of treating him. My chest tightened as I realized just how serious this was. My heart raced, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the scene in front of me. Hunter looks pale and covered in blood, his breathing shallow but looks still. The doctor injected him with something. I assumed it was pain medication; and then began to carefully remove the bullets from his chest. I counted them as they came out. One... two... six bullets. All silver. Of course, they were silver. It’s only silver bullets could have done this to him, given how strong and resilient he was. No ordinary bullet would have caused such damage. I felt a wave of nausea wash over me, realizing just how close he was to death.I suspected the doctor was

Akira’s POVThe following four days of keeping an eye on Hunter, caring for him, and helping him recover have been far more difficult than I ever expected. It scared the hell out of me, honestly. One minute, he’s lying there and seemed fine, like he was on the mend, and the next, his temperature would skyrocket, as if he were burning from the inside.Thank the Moon Goddess the doctor kept his word, visiting every day to check on Hunter and monitor his progress. But it was the nights that terrified me the most. Every night brought a new crisis. His body would heat up like flames licking his skin, leaving me panicked and helpless. Without Lisa, I wouldn’t have had a clue what to do.The first night it happened, I was frantic. Hunter was burning up so badly I thought he’d melt away. Desperately, I ran to Lisa, she’s the only one I can talk to about this. I ran to her, waking her up in the middle of the night, and begged for her help, even though I don’t know if she could do anything.

Akira’s POVI was deep asleep when I felt something brush across my face. At first, I ignored it. My body screamed for more rest—I hadn’t slept well in over a week. Although last night had been less hectic, with Hunter not having a fever, I still woke up several times to check on him. Everything had seemed normal, which allowed me to finally drift into a much-needed sleep. I rested my head on the bed beside him, while sitting on a chair. My legs ached from the awkward position, but even that was better than no sleep at all.The touch came again, this time a bit firmer, playful though. I groaned and swatted the hand away, not wanting to be disturbed. But just as I was about to drift back to sleep, I felt someone gently pinch my cheek. Startled, I shot up, ready to tell off whoever was messing with me, only to be met with Hunter’s smiling face.I gasped. “Hunter!” I blurted out, still half-asleep and a bit bewildered."Do you miss me that much, that you had to sleep by my bedside?" h

Akira’s POVThe burner phone rang again, and I hesitated before reaching for it. I was glad I was alone in the room, able to pick it up quickly before anyone else could enter. Not that I expected anyone unauthorized, beside, Lisa and Brielle were the only ones usally in my room or else one of the servants came to deliver a message. Still, the ringing made me uneasy, especially when I saw Jackson’s usally number on the screen. I didn’t want to answer his call. I wasn’t in the mood to hear another lecture about avenging my parents' death, as if I had forgotten. Of course, I hadn’t, wasn’t it the reason why I was in this house.Sometimes, though, I felt like Jackson was using me. He acted like he was helping me fulfill my parents' revenge, but it felt like he had his own agenda. There were things he wasn’t telling me—like the fact that he had another informant. That knowledge stung. It meant he didn’t trust me enough; didn’t believe I could do the job. And then there was the raid.He

Akira’s POVI was excited as I prepared for my date with Hunter. It wasn’t just because this date felt different from the forced, pretend ones he had made me do in the past. I was simply curious—curious to see what kind of taste he had when it came to taking care of a woman. Knowing Hunter’s brutal side, my expectations for the night weren’t high, but still, there was a flutter of excitement in my chest.I chose a simple short red dress and flat shoes. Lisa had tried to convince me to wear the heels I had worn on my date with August, but I stood my ground. It wasn’t that I couldn’t walk in heels—after all, I’d been getting used to them. But I didn’t want Hunter to think I was overdressed or trying too hard for him.The simple red dress and flats felt just right. Besides, I had no idea what Hunter had planned for the evening. His behaviors are usually unpredictable, and if he ended up stressing me out, I needed to be comfortable. At least comfortable enough to walk home in barefoot.I
