Syrus’s POV“Why didn’t you knock?” Nancy asked as she met with an agitated and angry and nervous Syrus. Her heart skipped a bit, and she feared the worst when Syrus banged open her door. Thankfully, she was able to reach him at the door before he entered.“What’s that on your bed?” Syrus asked, stretching to see. He wondered why people were being jumpy around him. First, it was Georgia, but at the end of the day, Syrus had found out that it was Ken; how Ken managed to get in touch with Georgia so much so that he was now visiting Georgia, Syrus had no idea. Now, his mother. It wasn’t just the jumpiness that made Syrus worried and curious about his mother; it was the fact that she had guilt in her eyes, and she was consciously hiding the box from him.“Um…it’s uh…” Nancy stuttered, trying to find a convincing lie. She hadn’t thought that Syrus would be back home by now. Bonnie was holed up in her room spending hours on the phone with the man that was stealing her attention, and it wa

Vivian’s POVAnderson’s funeral was the next day, so Marie and Mr. Vale went to bed early because they had a flight to catch as early as possible the next morning. According to the funeral arrangements, the ceremony would not begin until afternoon, but he would be laid to rest at the cemetery in the morning. Mr. Vale had intentions to be there with flowers to lay Anderson to rest, so that they could pay their condolences to his family, and then Mr. Vale would try as much as possible to get his children’s attention and have the long overdue conversation with them, and if everything went well as planned, he and Marie would take the evening flight back.It was a perfect arrangement, and I really hoped that it would work that way.Somewhere in my heart, I feared that Syrus might not want to speak with his father. He never spoke about Mr. Vale all the times we were together, but I knew for a fact that he resented Mr. Vale. I used to feel that he was right to be enraged for being abandoned

Vivian’s POVI knocked at the door and waited anxiously and nervously. It had been ages since I last visited, and it felt as though I was knocking at a stranger’s house. After a while without response, I knocked again, but no one responded. I tried the doorbell, but there was nothing, and I became really worried.“Isn’t anyone home?” I asked myself.I tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside, and I wondered what was going on. I tried to peep in from the windows, but I couldn’t see anything, and it made me more worried and agitated. “What is going on?” I asked myself frantically.Dad should be home, because he is almost bedridden. It is evening, so wherever Manny could have gone, he should have been back by now. So what was going on?I knew I couldn’t just turn around and walk away like it was nothing, or like they meant absolutely nothing to me. I began to think of possible ways that I could get in through the door. Then I recalled a certain time years back that Be

Vivian’s POVBeing back in this city brought a wave of emotions, and I started to ask myself if I really should have bothered coming. I was even more uncomfortable because my bump was very obvious now; even the big shirt I wore did nothing to hide it.Mr. Vale and Marie had been shocked when I told them of my intentions to fly with them out of the blue. In all honesty, I had thought that they would decline, because of the state of my pregnancy and of course, how impromptu I had brought up the idea. “Are you sure?” They had both asked.“Yes, I am,” I had answered.I wouldn’t have bothered them, I would have just used the train, but I didn’t want to risk discomforting my babies or even causing them any harm.Anyway, Mr. Vale had been gracious enough to accept. More so, he and Marie had used their influence to get me a ticket so that I could fly with them. When we landed at the airport, a rented expensive car was already waiting to pick us up.“Um, I will not be attending the funeral wi

Syrus’s POVSeeing his father after so many years triggered something bitter in Syrus, and the rest of the funeral meant nothing to him anymore, as he did not hear the rest of what the preacher was saying or the rest of what was done.“I should have known that he would come here, and worse, bring her along,” Syrus said to himself, growing more bitter and upset.Syrus could not even take his eyes off his father and his mistress, and even though Mr. Vale was so engrossed with the funeral that he did not look elsewhere, Syrus continued glaring at him. He knew now why he had this unsettling feeling in his stomach about the funeral; because his estranged father was going to be present. Even referring to him as his father made Syrus more hateful and upset. Syrus should have asked Anderson’s family for the guest list! It freaking escaped his mind, and he blamed it on his mother who muddled up his thoughts with her threat, and then Bonnie’s predicament.Syrus just hadn’t thought that Mr. Vale
