บททั้งหมดของ The Doctor's Alpha Mate: บทที่ 21 - บทที่ 30

Hope's POV.What the hell am I doing?I am a doctor. A woman of science. Not some heroine in a supernatural romance novel. And yet, here I am, trudging through the misty forest again, guided only by this strange pull in my chest that has no medical explanation.A connection. A bond. To him. Malakar. Alpha werewolf, who I'm supposedly mated to by fate. The phrase alone should send me running back to my carefully constructed life, but instead I find myself running after him again, even after everything that's happened. Maybe I'm the one that should have my head examined by one of the doctors in the psychiatric wing.Werewolves are real. That's still hard to say, even in my own head. Malakar is real and so is this strange magnetic force tying me to him. And the hunter, Malachai, looked me in the eye and told me that Malakar was a monster. That I was in danger. That he saved people from creatures like Malakar. But for some strange reason, I don't feel like my life is in danger when I'm ar

Hope's POV.The soft hum of laughter and excited conversation slowly fades away as Malakar leads me back to his tent. The atmosphere inside is cozy and welcoming. The light from the fire burning just outside the entrance casts warm shadows across the space. Malakar invites me to sit down on the bed next to him. It's a real bed, with a frame and everything, not just a cot or a stretcher like I expected. It's soft and comfy. Malakar sits next to me, leaving only a few inches of space between us."You look tired." His eyes are soft, and so is his voice."I feel it too. I haven't been getting much sleep lately. Too much on my mind.""I'm sorry, Hope." He searches my face with wary eyes.I smile up at him. "Don't be. I'm not."The expression in his eyes warms again. "You handled today better than I could have hoped. The pack loves you.""They were all wonderful. I like them all. Especially your sister. It feels like we've been friends all our lives.""You really made an impression on Morga

Malakar's POV.I reluctantly leave Hope in bed, alone. The sun has just begun to peak over the horizon. For once, the skies are clear, and it isn't raining.I'm still trying to wrap my head around the events of yesterday. I was sure that I would never see Hope again. Not after the falling out we had in her apartment. The look of utter disappointment in her eyes that night was almost more than I could take. I was so sure that she was done with me. With us.But then she showed up here, and I felt like I was dreaming. She chose to come here. She wanted to. She wanted to see me again. The pack loved her, but I knew that they would. How could they not? She's wonderful. I wasn't at all surprised by my mother's attitude towards her, but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't hoping that she would at least treat Hope with a little more decency.Luckily, Hope isn't easily fazed by others. She handled my mother even better than I would have. I was so proud of my mate in that moment. I'm sure

Hope's POV.The forest went quiet after Malakar and Lucian disappeared into the trees. I stand at the edge of camp with my arms wrapped around me, despite the warmth of the sun. My eyes linger on the trail that the two alphas had taken, my heart heavy with worry. I trust Malakar. I trust his instincts, his strength, but still the gnawing anxiety remains."Worried about them?" Morgana's voice breaks the silence as she approaches me, brushing her hands on her apron.I offer a faint smile. "Yea, I know that he can handle himself out there, but still..."Morgana nods knowingly. "It never gets easier, watching them walk away."As if for the first time, I realize that Talon, her mate, and the father of her children, just left with Malakar. She must be just as worried about him. I'm sure that she must be used to it by now. If you can ever get used to watching the man you love walk away to face almost certain death. Then it hits me. The man you love. The man I love. I love Malakar. It sounds

Hope's POV.The scout's words echo in my ears like a death knell."They're here! Malachai! Hunters! They found us!"For one long, breathless moment, I can't move. The world seems to narrow, my heart thudding so loud that it drains out everything else. Cold washes through my chest like ice water.No. Not now. Not like this.Panic claws at my throat. Malakar is gone. He is GONE. Out in the woods chasing shadows while the real threat had come crashing down at our doorstep. I press a hand to my chest, as if I could still feel the steady thump of his heart from our last embrace.God, I wish he was here. For a split second, just one, I see myself back in my apartment. Warm. Safe. Quiet. My books, my couch, the hum of traffic below my window. I could have stayed there. I should have stayed there. But I didn't. I came looking for him. And now that choice has teeth.A scream shatters my stillness. I snap back to the present just as the camp erupts into chaos.Morgana is shouting orders. Warrio
