Chapter Fourteen Katherine walked through the long hallways, her footsteps soft, heart pounding. The mansion was quiet, eerily so. All around her, the staff lay unconscious, slumped in corners, against walls, over tables. A few snored softly. Others looked like they had simply dozed off. Her guilt deepened. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, barely audible. “I hope one day y’all forgive me.” She reached the far side of the estate and approached the hidden corridor, one of the only ways out without being noticed.
