The gym

A week passed and nothing had really changed, except that Marianne now seem to have gotten more closer to the vampires, Velvet now looks more happy minding her own things and moving around with new people, mid-terms were coming where they’d have tests and then go home for a short holiday. Also, it was four days to her birthday. In reality, everything and everyone had changed…except her. There was something strange about this whole thing and she knows it. Especially when her birthday is approaching, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy, like there was something coming that she couldn’t see, but at the same time, has to prepare for.She lowered her head in sadness and thought about the times she spent with Marianne and Cassian’s group. They were moments worth remembering. She felt safe and felt like she belonged whenever she was around them. What changed then? She walked to class with her bag strapped on her shoulder. Lucien had said he had other things and that they should meet up in the

A dangerous confession

Earlier that day, Cassian had walked out of his room and peeked downstairs. There, he saw Tim and his friends stepping out of their rooms. A smirk appeared on his lips and he decided to compliment him.“Hey Tim,” he called. “You’re looking armed this morning. What’s the occasion?”Tim fumed where he was and didn’t give a reply. He just focused on his way and lowered his head.“Handicap looks good on you. It makes you humble, at least,” he teased.Jordan stepped out of Ryker’s room at the same time and Cassian raised a brow when he noticed a slight disturbance in the air. He moved his feet towards the place and held the door firmly just before Ryker would slam his door shut.“I think I smell betrayal here,” he said, sniffing the air.Jordan had a deep frown on his face and he said to him, “I know what you did to Tim. The only reason you are still not in detention is because his friends couldn’t expose the fact that they sneaked in contrabands.”Cassian grinned wider and said, “Tim suff

Under watchful eyes

Ryker clenched his teeth and fists tightly. Maybe Cassian was right, but how can he say those words like that? Right now, this wasn’t about getting his feelings out. He doesn’t know what it was that he felt for her, but whatever it was, it had a great effect on him. However, he didn’t think it was the same for Julianne. She would never look his way or even have a conversation with him. His presence only makes her want to retch and it makes him feel more like an animal whenever she makes that expression.Seeing that he didn’t reply within estimated seconds, Cassian let out a dry laugh and the smile on his lips faded immediately. “I guess I wasn’t the only one after all.”Ryker raised his eyes and wondered if Cassian was expressing how he felt also about Julianne, probably to make him back off. But why was he saying that in front of him? It was not like he was unaware about their chemistry. At least, he witnessed those nights where they were alone in Julianne’s room together. Those nigh

Ashes and bloodlines

When Lucien noticed the look on Julianne’s face, he looked towards the direction she was staring at and he saw the reason. Turning back to face her, he used his hand to turn her face slightly, making her look at him and he said, “You don’t need them. They left you in the first place. Don’t look so pitiful because of them.”He took her to the other side of the bench and made her sit. “I’ll come running if you need anything,” he said.Julianne gave a nod and watched him walk to where a team of students were. She tried not to think about anything else and just focus on Lucien. She watched his posture and how he moved. About a year ago, he was the kind of man she had wished for before Shane came. Shane was quite the type himself, except when she started to notice the signs, just like she is now…‘Julianne. Hey Julianne. I don’t know if this is working, but if it is, can you look at me?’A boy moved past Julianne with a trolley and she looked at him as he went. The auditorium was quite big

Not again this time

“Julianne! Are you okay?” Lucien came kneeling in front of her and holding her face up, checking if she was hurt in any way. “I’m sorry for not coming to you quick. I shouldn’t have left you there alone.”Julianne could now see more students gather to check if she was fine, especially the girl who had asked for the ball to be passed before the incident. She looked sorrier than anyone else, as if what had happened was her fault. She moved her eyes, looking for the boy who had saved her, but he was nowhere in sight. Her eyes then moved to look at where Maximus and the others sat through the opening. Marianne had a frightened expression on her face while Maximus and Remus looked somewhat angry. But Cassian was the only one who had his head lowered as both his hands hung down on either of his legs. Just then, she saw him get up and turn, making his way out of the gym. Maximus didn’t hesitate to follow him while Marianne gave her another stare before leaving with Remus.“Julianne,” Lucien

The storm after the calm

As Julianne walked to the class the next day, she could hear the students whisper about the incident that happened in the gym. Lately, her ears have been very sharp. She could hear the silent conversations of people and it was very disturbing. Her mind wasn’t quiet anymore. She couldn’t even go to sleep until around 2 A.M. when everyone had already fallen asleep. She wondered if it was normal or if it was as a result of what she was. It made her anxious about the days that were proceeding fast. What if her body was changing as she is growing?“Senior?”Julianne stopped walking and raised her eyes to see a female student standing in front of her.“Uh? What did you say?” she asked, knowing she had said something but the voices of the others in her head had mixed up what she must have heard.“I said Senior,” the girl answered. “I wasn’t sure how to address you.”“I’m Julianne. Is there something you want?” she asked her.“Ah! I see you don’t remember me. We met in the gym yesterday,” she

The search for Cassian

When Velvet heard what happened, she hurried to the headmistress’ office. She opened the door without knocking and saw her close a book and slip it under the desk immediately.“Yes Velvet? Why would you barge in here?” Headmistress Eldryn asked.Velvet caught her breath and said with a tone of urgency, “It’s Cassian and Jordan.” She then went ahead to narrate everything that happened.Headmistress Eldryn stood up immediately and her eyes shot with anger and concern. “They did that in the presence of other students? That too, in broad daylight? But Cassian doesn’t act suddenly if there isn’t a reason.” She raised her eyes and asked Velvet directly, “Is it because of that Julianne girl? I did hear that there was an incident in the gym. Was it Jordan’s doing?”Velvet couldn’t ignore the question. She had heard about what happened in the gym from a student after she heard whisperings going around. She couldn’t go and see Julianne last night because she didn’t know how to approach her yet,

Backwoods Town

As they now took a diversion into the woods, Julianne hoped that Maximus was right. She couldn’t imagine finding Cassian in a deeply bad state. That would hurt her and she won’t be able to forgive herself. The reason why she threw herself like that earlier when she saw what happened in the classroom was because she knew it was all because of her. Cassian didn’t deserve any of this and she knows it. Even when she said those words to him the last time they spoke, it was enough for him to hate her, and yet, she was the very reason he was in whatever state he was right now. After a long walk, she could finally see lights and what appears to be buildings.“What is this place?” she asked as she walked out of the forest and now into the streets.“A town,” Remus said, barely looking at her. “Didn’t you come from one?”Julianne indeed came from one, but she was surprised that a place like this exist. The day she came to Blackthorn, she didn’t sight any towns or buildings. But this place was ju

Twisted ties

"I don't know."After much thinking, that was the only response she could come up with."What?" the lady asked. "You came all the way here because you thought he was in danger and you said you don't know who you are to him? Not even a friend?" She scoffed and pulled out a cigarette from a pack before offering her one."I don't smoke," Julianne let her know. The lady burst into a laugh that was quick to die down. "Are you a saint?" She asked. "I wonder what Cass has been up to lately. You really don't fit into his world, but now that you're here, I can't help but feel I'm a bad influence.""Is this how Cassian has always been?" Julianne asked."Sometimes. Most of the times, he's here because he's bored.""You seem to know more about him than I do." She moved her eyes to the people in the bar and watched them. The lady noticed her tone and she said, "It's not like he's a bad person. He's just different from the rest. He once told me he was going to live like no one wanted him to before

Midnight conspiracy

In the dorm, Velvet was the first to notice that Julianne was missing. She couldn’t sit still and knew she needed to act immediately. She sneaked out and went to knock on Marianne’s room quietly. When Marianne heard the knock, she was scared at first, wondering who it may be, but then she heard a whisper that came from under the door and recognized the voice immediately. When she opened the door, Velvet rushed inside and shut the door immediately before dimming the light in her room.“What are you doing?” Marianne asked her.Velvet sighed and paced the room for a bit before she finally turned to her and said, “Julianne is not in her room right now.”“What?” Marianne’s eyes widened immediately and she made to go have a look for herself, only to be stopped by Velvet.“There’s no use. She must probably be off to look for Cassian. Aish! That girl really…”“Then why are you here? Shouldn’t you do something? Like try and look for her?” Marianne said.Velvet was first confused. ‘What do you
