Julianne didn’t know what had suddenly come over Cassian. Earlier, he was quiet, which was unusual and which made her misunderstand. Then when she saw him in her room, he looked like a gentleman and even spoke like one, calm, composed. Then all of a sudden, he is back to his old self, one who is always grinning and chatty, saying things that if she were the same person six days ago, she would find it irritating and then frown. But tonight was different. She looked at him like he had personality disorder and was not in his right state of mind.“I gave you my blood to save you. Maximus said it was the only thing I could do to help,” she said and added, “I don’t think I have another reason to give my blood to you.”Cassian quirked his lips up and stood, as if ready to go. Julianne looked up at him and quickly said, “The thing on your arm…”Cassian turned his body to her and she asked, “Does it hurt?”“Oh, the tattoo,” he said and smiled. “I wish that was the case, but it’s doing somethi

The air grew tense as Velvet seethed in rage and Cassian wasn’t letting go either. Julianne looked at Maximus for help, but it seems he also doesn’t know what to do, or he doesn’t want to meddle in it.“I could report you for sneaking into a female’s dorm at night and stealing what is theirs.”Cassian just gave her the slightest bit of concern and he said, “Go on. I’ll serve detention with pleasure.”“Cassian!” Velvet called his name angrily.“What? It doesn’t even belong to you. Why do you claim ownership of what you stole?”“Because it is mine!”Cassian’s brows pulled and his gaze turned dark. “Tell that to the one you got killed,” he said and pushed her hand off before getting up.Julianne watched him leave, his expression even darker as he exited the cafeteria. She moved her eyes back to Velvet and saw her stand there, somewhere angry and a little shaken by what Cassian said to her. From the look of things, Julianne could tell that Cassian knew what she was talking about all along

“Have we, perhaps…met before?” Julianne asked with doubt written all over her face.“I should ask the same, but putting into consideration that we grew up in different places, I don’t think we’ve crossed paths before, not until you came to Blackthorn,” Lucien answered.Julianne thought about what he said and knew that he was right. Now what was more disturbing to her was that the dream she had was not when they were a child, rather, it was when they had become adults, like now.“I must have been mistaken then,” she said and tilted her head to the side, wondering why she kept having that recurrent dream if they hadn’t met before.“Is something bothering you?” Lucien asked.Julianne raised her eyes to look at him and sucked in a breath.Lucien, noticing that she had something to say but was hesitating, said to her, “It’s alright to tell me anything. I promise you, I’m not that bad a person.”It was not that Julianne could not tell him, but she was being careful so he won’t see her as th

“Cassian.”Cassian opened his eyes slowly to see his mother’s face hovering above him. He felt her warm hand on his face and he blinked his eyes.“I have brought medicine. The doctor said it would help with the pain you are feeling and you can even recover quickly if you use it consistently.”Cassian could see his mother smile behind the pain she always carries, somehow convincing him that it would work this time and he would get better, but he knows it was all a lie. He overheard the doctor saying he has a bad heart and he didn’t have long to live. There were so many things he overheard while pretending to be asleep. His parent had fought all because of him, where his mother was telling his father that if they had another child, it would have been better and losing him would only cause little pain. Most of the time, he caught his mother checking if he was still breathing, or if he had died quietly. Knowing that his parents were wishing for his death earlier than death itself, it hur

Once classes ended on Friday morning, Julianne hurried to the dorm to pick out the dress she would wear for the freshman party that would take place by evening. Like Marianne said, she didn’t want to miss out on anything ‘fun’ so she wouldn’t be the one to regret it later. She emptied her wardrobe and realized she didn’t have something pretty to wear for the occasion. They were mostly cardigans and long-sleeved clothes with trousers. She couldn’t wear them because it would make her look odd. Discouraged, she sat back on the bed and decided to wait for Marianne to get back from the volunteer work she was doing. She was part of the people who were in charge of organizing the event.By 2 in the afternoon, most students started to return to the dorm. Thinking that Marianne would have been back, Julianne stepped out of the room and was about making her way towards her room when she sighted her just walking inside, and walking beside her was Velvet.“Julie,” Marianne called as she met up wi
