Phillip"Phillip," her voice came on strained, almost teary. I had never heard mum sound like that. It was even scarier than I imagined. My heart skipped a beat before her next words squeezed out, because I didn't know of anything heavy enough to get my mum in this state. I could never have expected it."Eli is missing." She wasn't crying.. yet. But she was close. "Your father is gathering a patrol team." The words didn’t make sense at first. They floated, detached from consequence. Like something overheard, not lived.I forced myself to breathe. Slow. Even. Panic was useless. Panic blurred edges, and I needed edges sharp. Around me, the rink hummed in the low, restless way it always did when it was emptying. Wolves leaned against walls. Skates scraped ice. Someone laughed too loudly at nothing. But every noise began to fade out till I heard nothing at all."Phillip." Reagan seized my left shoulder. "What's wrong?" I kept my eyes forward. "It's Eli. He's missing." I repeated th

PhillipThey didn’t attempt to harm or subdue us. The threat of a fight didn't loom. Though I wanted it badly. Silas and his men stood in a loose semicircle in front of us, blocking the narrow stretch of ground just before the underground entrance. The snow had been trampled into a gray slush beneath their boots, the air thick with that metallic edge that always came before violence. They weren’t posturing. They weren’t nervous. They were bold with the knowledge they thought they had.Reagan came up beside me, close enough that I could feel the tension rolling off him in waves. Rowan shifted his weight. Calder cracked his neck once, slow and deliberate. Everyone expected a fight. But there was yet no justification.Silas took a step forward, straight faced.“It seems to me that you're searching for something.. here,” he said mildly.I met his gaze. Held it. "We're searching for my brother, everywhere.”His eyes flicked over us, counting again. Assessing. When they landed back on me,

PhillipWe rode back in unnamed silence - Dad, Eli and I. Eli had found by some sheer miracle and breathing and standing on his own two feet. My Dad’s hands were still shaking on the steering wheel even though his voice had steadied. He'd thanked everyone, holding Eli's hand and keeping him by his side the whole night. He'd asked Eli how he escaped but hadn't waited for an answer. He just hugged him repeatedly, never letting his tears fall. I noticed every time he gave Eli's hand a little squeeze, because I didn't take my eyes off my brother either. A thousand thoughts spiralled in my head. I was happy.. grateful that he had been found, but I was almost equally curious as to how. It didn't make any sense, and the part of me that lacked that knowledge remained unsettled. I wasn't going to ask Eli now. In fact, I knew he would tell me sooner than I would probe. He appeared shaken, expectedly so. But there was also an air about him that gave it away.. at least to me. He was withholdin

PhillipI spotted her from across the grounds, her figure standing out even in the dim light. She was trying to stand tall, but I could tell she was exhausted – like she was holding on by a thread. Watching her like that did something to me, hit me right in the chest.I knew she'd crossed a line, one she couldn't come back from, and she'd done it without hesitating. She was neck-deep in a world that held on tightly to her, and it killed me to think about what she put herself through.I waited for my chance - for the darkness between the lights, for the sound of footsteps to fade, and hers to be the only ones left. Then I made my move.I didn’t grab her roughly. I never would. I reached for her the way you reach for something precious you’re afraid might vanish, firm enough to be sure, gentle enough not to frighten. She startled, just a fraction, then relaxed immediately when she knew it was me, her body fitting against mine like it always had.I pulled her fully into the shadows, wrap

PhillipI slid into my seat, trying to compose myself, the lingering buzz from just a few minutes ago still humming through my veins. As always, I waited for her to go in first, watching and ensuring she went undisturbed, before moving, myself. Even out of sight, I couldn't get her out of my head. Forrest had been starved and so had I, and I didn't even know how bad it was till I had her in my arms.I found my place amongst my family and settled, nodding along with the alpha's speech as it proceeded, my eyes scanning the room, but my mind elsewhere. The Alpha spoke about pack security and the growing unease among members, but it wasn't news. It was protocol to talk about it, but his words were empty. His eyes were duller than before, and he even appeared a bit thinner. It stood out to me more than anything he said, but I struggled to concentrate on it, my thoughts kept drifting back to the warmth of Elizabeth's touch. When I glanced to his side, my eyes widened just slightly. I was
