Anna's shift officially ended at seven. She stayed a few minutes longer handing over, signed out and walked to the door on fumes, her feet dragging. “Morning, Vegas.” She didn't need to look to know it was Dr. Pierce. Her ears picked up his familiar tone. “You sound bright.” He chuckled, hands buried in his coat pockets, falling into step beside her. “And you look like you fought the building and lost.” “They always win,” she muttered under her breath. He leaned in, eyebrows raised. “What?” Anna paused at the door, turning to him. “Do you need something, Dr. Pierce?” He looked taken aback, brows furrowing. “I—no. I don't… I just wanted to say good morning.” She gave him a taut smile. “Okay. Thank you.
