Lisa's pov It was less than two days before the court papers came and until then, my mother was still locked up behind bars. The first court meeting was scheduled in two weeks time and I didn't dare sit idle even though Julie being away gave a little peace to my life. I didn't see Erin during that period, didn't call, didn't text and wasn't able to catch him in the office, though it wasn't in my mind to see him. He was probably gathering more evidence on Julie. He had no reason to meet me anymore, I had made it clear I was behind my mother and wouldn't support his scheme to bring her down. Maybe when we get evidence about her ruining multiple children then I might consider. And even if Erin wasn't behind this, his posts gave someone the push to do this and I couldn't wait to see that person and their lawyer, I would so crush them. I had just walked into the firm when I caught a glimpse of Erin through the small crack in his doors. I exhaled slowly and headed to Megan's. “Lis

Lisa's pov I had just hung up from a call with my mother and I couldn't stop my heart from racing. She was crying and genuinely scared. It was still hard to know if she was faking it but she sounded really scared. Something had happened. The only thing she had said to me was “Come home, Lisa.” My mind immediately went to my siblings, what could have happened to them but that thought didn't last long. Julie would only be this worked up when it got to do with her, no one else. So what else had she done? I threw my coat over my body, already rushing out of my apartment. Like I guessed, when I arrived at the family house, police cars were stationed outside and I could see more inside the house. Surprisingly, my breathing stabilized. If it was something to do with the police, it was better than any unplanned situation. I hadn't seen my mother before I heard her voice and she was nothing like the scared woman that had called me. Another act. When would I learn to see through her

Hundred-eleven~Enemy's arms

Lisa's povMegan and Bruce returned to the car and my eyes darted to Erin from where I sat behind the steering wheel. He stood, his expression being unbelievably innocent, he could have fooled me if I didn't know what he was. “Lisa.” Bruce called, knocking on the window of the passenger’s seat. I snapped my head towards him and gestured towards the back seat.“I could sit beside you.” He said. I saw him glance at Erin. I felt something weighing on my chest from Erin's hurt expression. I didn't want to care, he was out to take my career.I returned Bruce's gaze and gave a little smile before nodding slowly and opening the door. Bruce flashed a victorious smile at Erin before he got into the car.Erin's hands closed into a fist as he stared at my car. I forced my eyes away from him and started the car. I pressed on the accelerator, picking enough speed to keep up with the police car that was before me.I pulled the car to a stop at the station and alighted, with Megan and Bruce follow

Hundred-twelve~Get Drunk

Erin's povI could feel Bruce's victorious smile as he glanced at me before entering Lisa's car.“It's just a passenger seat, it's nothing.” I told myself but that didn't stop the anger coursing through my veins.I fisted my hands into a ball as I stepped into my car. Bruce's words still echoed in my head. “Have I finally lost her?” I exhaled slowly, starting the car.I drove around the city mindlessly without a destination in mind. My phone rang out and I pulled my car to a corner and picked up the call, not checking the caller's ID. It was Brandon.“Hello.” I grumbled into the phone. Maybe I had hoped that by a stroke of luck, Lisa's voice would be waiting at the other side of the phone.“Hey, where are you?” Brandon asked from the other side of the phone. I strained to hear his voice as music pounded from where he was. Maybe a bar or clubhouse.“Is Julie's case settled now? How are you doing? Celebrating today?” He asked, all in one breath.“Where are you?” I asked instead.“I wou

Hundred-thirteen~For the best

Lisa's pov I watched in despair as Erin's car drove off from the parking space, my heart dropping into my stomach. There was no way for us after all? Bruce and my mother wouldn't have any of it.I felt Bruce move his fingers over my shoulders, trying to pull my attention back to him but I stepped backwards. “You had nothing to tell me anyways, you were just trying to take advantage of me.” I accused.I didn't know if what I saw in his eyes was him being stunned from the accusations or it was guilt from being caught red handed.I didn't wait to find out. I turned my back at him, pushing my way into my apartment when he held me back. I felt something close to relief wash over me as he stepped closer. His breath hovered over my face as he muttered. “Lisa, wait…” he sighed and I cocked my head to the side, taking him in. “Julie wouldn't like it.”I wanted to say I didn't care what she liked anymore. She was the one in this mess and I was left to clean up after her so I didn't care about

Hundred-fourteen~Running back to you

Erin's povSun rays filtered into my eyes and my eyes fluttered open for a moment before I snapped it shut. I let my face adjust to the heat of the raging morning sun before I cracked my eyes open slowly, one at a time.I tried pushing myself up from the bed but fell back with a low groan. “How did I end up in the bed?” I asked internally. The memories of last night immediately after I got back home were a blur. I remembered staggering into the kitchen and grabbing a crate of beer before settling in the sitting room to gulp them down.I should have passed out from excessive drinking in the sitting room but I felt the soft bed beneath me.A frown settled on my face as the sensation of a migraine came washing over me. I tried to push myself up again and succeeded this time.I took minutes to get used to my surroundings and immediately I did, my eyes locked on Brandon, standing on the doorway, leaning against the wall as he stared at me in barely hidden amusement.“What are you doing h

Hundred-fifteen~Desperate

Erin's pov I allowed the cars to cruise through the light traffic, making my way to Lisa's apartment. There was a great sign that she had called Megan after she got awake because the Lisa I know would be awake by now. With Megan in the picture, it was going to be awkward, especially with the way she had stared me down at the court when she came to call Bruce over. We had never gotten into a fight and had usually gotten along well even on occasions where Lisa and I weren't on good talking terms, I didn't know what changed or if she was just angry because of Lisa. She didn't seem like the type to care for Julie personally so that was the only explanation I could come up with.I arrived at Lisa's apartment with this thought in mind as I parked my car. There was no trace of Bruce's car anywhere and an easy smile fell on my face as I headed for the apartment door.A frown replaced the smile as I got closer with a heavy question resting on my chest. How was I going to get in? Knock? If L

Hundred-sixteen~Making a move

Lisa's pov I felt the light skim of something brushing through my lips and forced my eyes open. The light from the exposed windows stabbed into my eyes and I groaned, raising my hands to block the sun rays. When my eyes adjusted to the light, I pushed myself up and looked around me.There was no doubt that I was in my room but how? I had passed out after crying my eyes out in the sitting room. My head ached and I turned to see some painkillers and a glass of water on the side table.Disregarding the headache, I stood up and rushed to the window, looking down the packing lot. No one was there. But I could still smell his unique cologne in the air.I walked over to the side table and that was when I noticed the food flask placed behind the glass of water. A sticky note was placed on it. “Eat immediately when you get up.” My instincts were confirmed. Erin was here.I couldn't stop the silly smile from tugging at my lips. I took the pills and rushed over to the bathroom to freshen up bef

Hundred-seventeen~Mhm...just us

Lisa's pov “Erin.” I yelled, waving at him to stop but that only made him quicken his movement towards his car.“Erin.” I yelled again, this time running towards him. I clamped my hands on his wrist, stopping him from getting into the car. “Erin.” I breathed out. “I need to talk to you.” I said, almost in a plea. His eyes flickered to my hands holding down on his wrists before moving to my face. He took a long step towards me. “This could easily pass for harassment, Ms Hunclins or don't you think so?” His eyes bored me.I swallowed hard and removed my hand like the spot burned. “I just need to talk to you, okay? Don't make it difficult.”Erin shook his head slightly like he was being regretful. “I'm sorry I won't be able to make time for entertaining a chit chat as much as I would love to. As you can see, I'm working.” He slipped inside his car.“Erin.” I called but he was already driving away.I stomped my leg on the marble floor before rushing over to my car. I parked my car at h

Hundred-eighteen~What we missed

Erin's povI didn't realize when I fell asleep, but I could vaguely remember the weight of Lisa on my arms as I held her closely even in sleep. If this was a dream, I didn't want to wake up from it. I knew this illusion would scatter in a matter of time when we appeared before the judge in the courtroom but I still didn't want it to end.I rolled over the bed but my hands didn't touch flesh so I cracked my eyes open. She was gone. She had probably woken up before me. The side of her bed was cold which meant she had been up for a very long time. Her bags and clothes were gone too, which could only mean when she woke up and saw what we had done, she panicked, cursed herself for making such a reckless move and left before I could wake or before anything could hold her back. And I was hoping we would spend the day together.“So soon.” I grumbled and pushed myself up from the bed. The illusion had shattered sooner than I would have wanted.I headed to the bathroom to freshen up and smil
