The next morning Gianna woke to the sound of the door unlocking. She sat up quickly and looked toward the entrance as a woman walked in carrying a tray of food. She was young, maybe twenty-five, with ginger hair tied back in a messy braid and sharp green eyes that looked at Gianna with pure disdain.The woman set the tray down on the table with more force than necessary and some of the soup sloshed over the edge of the bowl."Eat," the woman said, her voice cold.Gianna stood from the bed and walked to the table. She looked at the food - bread, soup, water - simple but adequate."Thank you," Gianna said.The woman sneered. "Do not thank me. I did not do this for you."Gianna frowned.
