The pack looked exactly how it did three years ago. Suddenly it felt like not a single day had gone by since I’d left this place. I didn’t know exactly what I’d been expecting, but it wasn’t this.As Jefferson drove in, I felt the all-so familiar fear once again. Images I’d suppressed the past years found their way back to the surface. Every single pain I’d gone through, every scar it had left behind—everything was flooding back and it was all too much. My chest constricted painfully, my palm grew sweaty as we drew closer to the pack house.‘Don’t let him see you like this, don’t give him the satisfaction’, I said to myself, but I couldn’t help it.This was the plan; this was the reason he’d decided not to kill me yet. He’d brought me back here to torment me just as he’d once done. The car came to a stop, and soon the door was pulled open.I heard the voices. Some I’d recognized even without looking. I stepped out of the car to face the crowd waiting. I recognized these faces; thes

My clothes were still in the dressing room, exactly where I’d left them three years ago and I couldn’t help but wonder why he’d retained them. Was this also part of the act? Did he do this to give the pack the illusion he wasn’t yet ready to let go?I laid on the bed. Unsurprisingly, I couldn’t get any sleep.I might not have been there for my daughter all her life, but I was here now and I was going to make up for it. I was going to win her trust again.I let my thoughts trail to Cassian. I couldn’t understand the throbbing in my chest at the thought of him. I’d seen him as a friend, I realized, and I’d trusted him as one too. Even now, I still couldn’t bring myself to hate him for what he’d done, I couldn’t bring myself to even be mad at him.A part of me was curious to know if he’d discovered what Rosalia had attempted. My guess was she’d found a way out of that too. And then there was the part I didn’t want to think about; the possibility that I was carrying his baby. After hours

I sat on the waiting bench outside Layla's dance class. I was early, I still had ten more minutes before the classes were over.I was nervous. I had no idea what being a mother meant and I was suddenly supposed to act like one. I was scared I was going to mess up things, and even more scared that she wouldn’t want me here. ‘Calm down, Eloise, you got this.’The bell went off, and I rose to my feet, before heading into the dance class, and there she was with a smile on her face. My heart melted as I made my way to her.“Hey,” I said,“Where is Uncle Jaffason?”“He’s a bit occupied and so he told me to pick you up,”She frowned, “I don’t want you; I want Jaffason.” Her words felt like daggers to my chest, but I maintained my smile.“Okay, then, I’ll take you to him. Come on.”I led her away from the dance hall. ‘Say something—anything,’ “Jefferson tells me you enjoy dancing, is that true?”“I don’t wanna talk to you.”“W—why?” I questioned, unable to hide the hurt I felt.“Becaus

I was dreaming, I could feel it and yet it all felt so real, like I was revisiting a memory.I was back on the lonely road Rosalia had led me to, right before she’d stabbed me. It was all happening again; I knew exactly what was coming and yet I couldn’t do a thing to stop it.This time, I’d seen Rosalia take out the dagger. “This—” she stabbed the weapon into my side “—is for threatening me,” she spat at me. “She’s all yours,” she said to the three men approaching.I’d felt the panic rise in my chest as they’d ripped off my clothes. I knew exactly what they were about to do, only, it never did happen. The sound of bones crackling filled the air; claws tore out of my fingers and fur covered my skin. Soon, I was standing on my fours.‘It’s so fucking good to be back,’ my wolf, Nala said to me. I could feel all her emotions, from her anger, to her excitement, but there was something else there, something I couldn’t quite place.‘Where have you been?’ I questioned.‘Resting. Now if you

I was fuming by the time I got to my chambers.Who the hell did she think she was?Well, if bringing her down was the only way I was going to get Layla, then I would—A palm clasp around my mouth. “Don’t make a sound.”I recognized the voice, but it took me a moment to place it. Slowly he let go of me, and then stepped into my line of sight.“Gideon?”“Hush!”“What the hell are you doing here?” I question, my eyes wide as saucers.“What do you think? I’m here to talk to you,”“Does Jefferson know you’re here?”“Of course not, now could you take a seat?”“No, you shouldn’t be here. Do you know what he’ll do to you if he discovered you infiltrated the pack borders uninvited?”“Yes, Ruby. I know exactly what we do to trespassers. But you forget this is not the first time I’ve been here.” He gave me a look, as if waiting for me to figure it out.“You were the one who delivered the letter to my father?”“Yes. So, I’ll appreciate it if you have some faith in my skills and stop worrying.”
