RACHEL “Goodnight, Mrs. Clark,” the employees greeted as I walked out of the office. “Goodnight, everyone,” I responded, putting on a smile. That must be the only time I’d smiled since yesterday. After the whole shit with Jeremy, I was embarrassed. I left the house very early this morning before anyone could wake up and resumed at the office. During lunch, I didn’t step out. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to handle the natural stares from the workers. It would feel like I was being talked about. It would feel like Jeremy had told everyone how he mocked me and ruined the remaining dignity I had left. I couldn’t face him too. I could lose it if I saw the silly smile on his face once again. I stepped into the elevator and let out a deep breath. Finally. The day was over. I didn’t have to endure the incessant loud clacks of the keyboard and put on a fake smile while speaking to rude clients, all because they were always right. Hopping out of the elevator, I didn’t stop at the car pa

RACHEL “Bring him home and officially introduce him if you want me to believe he’s really your boyfriend,” Jeremy muttered, settling on the seat in front of me. I almost choked on the bite of toasted bread I was munching before his arrival. Oh shit. Who the hell did he think he was? “Pardon?” My brows rose. “You want fair treatment? Then bring him home the same way I brought Clara home and introduced her to you,” he suggested. “You want me to bring him over?” My eyes widened. “Yes. That should be easy,” he mumbled. “Unless you’re hiding something from me.” A dark, mischievous glint flashed across his eyes when he made the last statement. This bastard just set a trap. If I refused, he would assume I was just playing around with a man. Wait. With everything he saw that night, he still didn’t believe I had a boyfriend? He still thought I was just throwing a tantrum? Damn. What impression of me did he have, to think that I wouldn’t be able to cheat on him? A “understanding woman”? A

RACHEL “Listen to this bastard!” I cursed, gripping the iPad tightly, almost ruining its screen. Sebastian snorted. “This isn’t the attitude of a woman who is VERY SICK,” he emphasized, sarcasm evident in his voice. We both laughed. I had been watching Jeremy’s interview since we left the changing room, and I couldn’t help but feel ashamed of myself. Did I really choose to get married to Jeremy? Out of all men? A man who didn’t think twice before declaring his wife “very sick” just because of his girlfriend. Anger coursed through me as I watched both of them on the iPad screen. And Clara… I thought she was ready for this lifestyle. But guess who hid behind Jeremy and couldn’t raise her gaze to the camera? She did. “We’re here, sir,” the chauffeur announced, causing me to raise my head from the iPad. I stared out through the window, my eyes catching Jeremy and Clara. They were still on the red carpet, answering questions and acting like celebrities. They must have thought they were

GENERAL The dinner party had officially started by the time Rachel returned to the hall. Thankfully, Sebastian only came back after she had settled into her seat, so she wouldn’t have to explain what happened between her and Jeremy to him. “Do you miss me so much?” he teased, settling beside her. Rachel leaned back, squinted her face, and pretended she hadn’t seen that face before. “Excuse me. Who are you again?” Sebastian chuckled. “Your boyfriend… maybe a fake one,” he shrugged, and they both burst into laughter. “Hello, everyone,” the host’s voice captured everyone’s attention. “Welcome to GIGI Annual Business Award Season Ten!” he announced. Everyone clapped. “I hope y’all are enjoying your night. I can see you are. Permit me to say this,” he said. “Y’all look stunning and perfect tonight.” “Thank you,” most of the guests shouted, accompanied by another clap. Soon, the award session started. The awardees were called onto the stage one after the other. They started from the

RACHEL “Do you want to leave here early?” Sebastian leaned to the side, whispering into my ear. At first, I didn’t quite grasp his words, so I threw him a questioning glare. “Do you want to leave here early or spend extra hours after the end of the event?” he repeated. Still, I didn’t know where the question stemmed from, so I wasn’t really sure how to answer. But I answered anyway. “Well, I think going home early should be the right thing to do after such an eventful night,” He checked his wristwatch and said, “The event will end in ten minutes, but we have to leave right now if you don’t want to spend extra hours waiting and watching me attend to the tons of men who likely want to speak to me about their projects after the event,” “Oh!” I mouthed. “That seems difficult and tiring. I don’t think I want to do that with you,” “Follow my lead then,” he chipped in. At the same time, he stood, pulling me up with him. Then, we headed toward the exit, ignoring the hundreds of probing s
