Chapter 95Jax pov I moved through the hallway fast.My head was down. My steps were quiet. The servant uniform was rough against my skin. It was too tight on my shoulders. Too loose at the waist. It didn't fit right. But it had to work. It was all we had. We didn't have time to find better clothes. We didn't have time to be careful. We just had to move. The hallway was long. Stone walls. Cold. Damp. Torches on the wall. Their flames danced and made shadows move. The shadows looked like monsters. Like hands reaching for me. I kept my eyes forward. I didn't look at them. I didn't let my mind play tricks on me.My heart was beating fast. Too fast. I could feel it in my throat. I could feel it in my ears. But I kept my breathing steady. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Calm. Stay calm. My mother used to tell me that. Stay calm, Jax. Panic makes you stupid. Panic gets you killed.I held onto her voice. It was the only thing keeping me together.Silas was behind me. I could fee

Soyera's povThe High Council rises to their feet. All of them. One by one they stand, pushing back their heavy chairs. The sound echoes through the Grand Hall. I watch from my corner near the servants' door. My hands are behind my back. My fingers are shaking. The glasses are raised. Crystal catches the light from the chandeliers. The wine is dark red. Too red. Like blood. I feel sick looking at it."To unity," the High Chancellor says. His voice is loud. It fills the whole room. Bounces off the walls. Everyone stops talking to listen."To unity!" the Alphas answer.Hundreds of voices. Hundreds of glasses. Hundreds of men and women who have no idea what is about to happen.I watch them drink. The wine goes down. I see throats move. I see glasses tilt. I see lips touching the red liquid. My heart is beating so fast. I can hear it in my ears. Boom. Boom. Boom. I am sure someone will hear it. I am sure someone will look at me and know.I wait for the first scream.I wait for the first c

Silas POVThe tunnel hums with old magic. The air tastes of rust, dust, and something electrical that makes my teeth ache. Its weight presses down on my chest like a stone. My wolf whines deep inside me. She knows what I'm about to do. She is terrified and hopeful all at once.I reach out and touch the crystal. It burns my palm with a cold fire that shoots up my arm and into my shoulder.Fuck, I cursed under my breath, cause I couldn't scream. Screaming would give me away, and I've come too far for that.I grit my teeth, force my fingers to curl around the jagged surface, and find the dampener runes carved into the base of the stone. They glow dark red, like dying embers. They've been sucking the power out of every Alpha in this place for decades. I've hated them every single day of my life.I take my knife and scratch through the lines, one by one.The red light flickers, sputters, and dies. The crystal shudders once, then goes quiet. The pressure lifts from my chest like a hand rele

Soyera POV I stood in the doorway, my massive white body filling the frame like a ghost made flesh Golden light pulsed from the markings on my body, casting strange shadows across the bloodslicked floor I was enormous, towering over the assembled wolves like a monument to something ancient and terribleAnd they all knew what I wasI saw it in their faces The brainwashed soldiers, their eyes gone glassy and vacant from Leonard's conditioning, hesitated midstrike Their weapons faltered Their bodies trembled The conditioning that had held them in its grip for so long was cracking, splintering under the weight of my presenceA Queenranked wolf hadn't been seen in centuries Most of them probably thought we were myths, stories told to pups to keep them in line But here I was, flesh and blood and fury, and every instinct they possessed was screaming at them to submitThe ones who weren't brainwashed, the rebels, the survivors, the remnants of the packs who had come to fight alongside us sta
